ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਰਾਗ ਆਸਾ, ਘਰ ੨ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ।
ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਧੜਾ ਕੀਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਸੁਤ ਨਾਲਿ ਭਾਈ ॥

Some form alliances with friends, children and siblings.
ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਨਾਲ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਥ ਗੰਢਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਧੜਾ ਕੀਆ ਕੁੜਮ ਸਕੇ ਨਾਲਿ ਜਵਾਈ ॥

Some form alliances with in-laws and relatives.
ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੱਕੇ ਕੁੜਮ ਨਾਲ ਜਵਾਈ ਨਾਲ ਧੜਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਧੜਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਿਕਦਾਰ ਚਉਧਰੀ ਨਾਲਿ ਆਪਣੈ ਸੁਆਈ ॥
kis hee dharraa keea sikadaar chaudharee naal aapanai suaaee |
Some form alliances with chiefs and leaders for their own selfish motives.
ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਗ਼ਰਜ਼ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ (ਪਿੰਡ ਦੇ) ਸਰਦਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਚੌਧਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਧੜਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ
ਹਮਾਰਾ ਧੜਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥
hamaaraa dharraa har rahiaa samaaee |1|
My alliance is with the Lord, who is pervading everywhere. ||1||
ਪਰ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਥੀ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹਮ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਧੜਾ ਕੀਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਟੇਕ ॥
ham har siau dharraa keea meree har ttek |
I have formed my alliance with the Lord the Lord is my only support.
ਅਸਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਥ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਖੁ ਧੜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਹਉ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਅਸੰਖ ਅਨੇਕ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mai har bin pakh dharraa avar na koee hau har gun gaavaa asankh anek |1| rahaau |
Other than the Lord, I have no other faction or alliance I sing of the countless and endless Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਪੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੋਈ ਧੜਾ ਨਹੀਂ। ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤੇ ਅਣਗਿਣਤ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਿਨੑ ਸਿਉ ਧੜੇ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੇ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
jina siau dharre kareh se jaeh |
Those with whom you form alliances, shall perish.
ਲੋਕ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਧੜੇ ਗੰਢਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ (ਆਖ਼ਰ ਜਗਤ ਤੋਂ) ਕੂਚ ਕਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਝੂਠੁ ਧੜੇ ਕਰਿ ਪਛੋਤਾਹਿ ॥
jhootth dharre kar pachhotaeh |
Making false alliances, the mortals repent and regret in the end.
(ਧੜੇ ਬਣਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਇਹ) ਝੂਠਾ ਅਡੰਬਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਧੜੇ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਰਨ ਤੇ) ਪਛੁਤਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਥਿਰੁ ਨ ਰਹਹਿ ਮਨਿ ਖੋਟੁ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥
thir na raheh man khott kamaeh |
Those who practice falsehood shall not last.
(ਧੜੇ ਬਣਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਆਪ ਭੀ) ਸਦਾ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿਚ) ਟਿਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ, (ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੀ ਧੜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਠੱਗੀ-ਫ਼ਰੇਬ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਮ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਧੜਾ ਕੀਆ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਕੋਈ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
ham har siau dharraa keea jis kaa koee samarath naeh |2|
I have formed my alliance with the Lord there is no one more powerful than Him. ||2||
ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਾਥ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਏਹ ਸਭਿ ਧੜੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਪਸਾਰੀ ॥
eeh sabh dharre maaeaa moh pasaaree |
All these alliances are mere extensions of the love of Maya.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ) ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਧੜੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਹਨ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਹਨ।
ਮਾਇਆ ਕਉ ਲੂਝਹਿ ਗਾਵਾਰੀ ॥
maaeaa kau loojheh gaavaaree |
Only fools argue over Maya.
(ਧੜੇ ਬਣਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ) ਮੂਰਖ ਲੋਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਹੀ (ਆਪੋ ਵਿਚ) ਲੜਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਜੂਐ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰੀ ॥
janam mareh jooai baajee haaree |
They are born, and they die, and they lose the game of life in the gamble.
(ਇਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ) ਜੰਮਦੇ ਹਨ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਜੂਏ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ (ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਹਾਰ ਕੇ ਚਲੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ)।
ਹਮਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਧੜਾ ਜਿ ਹਲਤੁ ਪਲਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
hamarai har dharraa ji halat palat sabh savaaree |3|
My alliance is with the Lord, who embellishes all, in this world and the next. ||3||
ਪਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਥੀ ਹੈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਲੋਕ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਸਵਾਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਧੜੇ ਪੰਚ ਚੋਰ ਝਗੜਾਏ ॥
kalijug meh dharre panch chor jhagarraae |
In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the five thieves instigate alliances and conflicts.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਿਛੜ ਕੇ (ਕਲਿਜੁਗੀ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ) ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਧੜੇ ਬਣਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਵਧਾਏ ॥
kaam krodh lobh mohu abhimaan vadhaae |
Sexual desire, anger, greed, emotional attachment and self-conceit have increased.
ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਚੋਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਝਗੜੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਿਛੋੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਅਤੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਵਧਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਤਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
jis no kripaa kare tis satasang milaae |
One who is blessed by the Lord's Grace, joins the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਉਹ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਚੋਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਹਮਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਧੜਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਏਹ ਧੜੇ ਸਭਿ ਗਵਾਏ ॥੪॥
hamaraa har dharraa jin eeh dharre sabh gavaae |4|
My alliance is with the Lord, who has destroyed all these alliances. ||4||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮੇਰੀ ਮਦਦ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਧੜੇ ਮੁਕਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ॥੪॥
ਮਿਥਿਆ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਧੜੇ ਬਹਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
mithiaa doojaa bhaau dharre beh paavai |
In the false love of duality, people sit and form alliances.
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਝੂਠਾ ਪਿਆਰ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਧੜੇ (-ਬਾਜ਼ੀਆਂ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪਰਾਇਆ ਛਿਦ੍ਰੁ ਅਟਕਲੈ ਆਪਣਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਵਧਾਵੈ ॥
paraaeaa chhidru attakalai aapanaa ahankaar vadhaavai |
They complain about other peoples' faults, while their own self-conceit only increases.
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਹੇਠ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਐਬ ਜਾਚਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ) ਆਪਣਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਧਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੈਸਾ ਬੀਜੈ ਤੈਸਾ ਖਾਵੈ ॥
jaisaa beejai taisaa khaavai |
As they plant, so shall they harvest.
(ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਐਬ ਫਰੋਲ ਕੇ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਨੇਕ ਮਿਥ ਮਿਥ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਬੀ ਬੀਜਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਫਲ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾ ਹਰਿ ਧੜਾ ਧਰਮੁ ਸਭ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਜਿਣਿ ਆਵੈ ॥੫॥੨॥੫੪॥
jan naanak kaa har dharraa dharam sabh srisatt jin aavai |5|2|54|
Servant Nanak has joined the Lord's alliance of Dharma, which shall conquer the whole world. ||5||2||54||
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ ਪੱਖ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਾਥੀ ਤਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ) ਧਰਮ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਕੇ ਆ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥੨॥੫੪॥

Aasaa, Fourth Mehl:
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
hiradai sun sun man amrit bhaaeaa |
Constantly listening to the Ambrosial Gurbani in the heart, it becomes pleasing to the mind.
(ਹੇ ਭੈਣੋ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
gurabaanee har alakh lakhaaeaa |1|
Through Gurbani, the Incomprehensible Lord is comprehended. ||1||
ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਭੈਨਾ ॥
guramukh naam sunahu meree bhainaa |
As Gurmukh, listen to the Naam, the Name of the Lord, O my sisters.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਭੈਣੋ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਰੋ,
ਏਕੋ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਬੋਲਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬੈਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
eko rav rahiaa ghatt antar mukh bolahu gur amrit bainaa |1| rahaau |
The One Lord is pervading and permeating deep within the heart with your mouth, recite the Ambrosial Hymns of the Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਜੋ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ। (ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਭੈਣੋ!) ਮੂੰਹ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਬੋਲਿਆ ਕਰੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਮਹਾ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ॥
mai man tan prem mahaa bairaag |
My mind and body are filled with divine love, and great sadness.
(ਹੇ ਭੈਣੋ!) ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਬੜੀ ਲਗਨ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਵਡਭਾਗੁ ॥੨॥
satigur purakh paaeaa vaddabhaag |2|
By great good fortune, I have obtained the True Guru, the Primal Being. ||2||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਤੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ) ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਭਵਹਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
doojai bhaae bhaveh bikh maaeaa |
In the love of duality, the mortals wander through poisonous Maya.
(ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਭੈਣੋ!) ਜਿਹੜੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਲਈ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਬਣਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਭਾਗਹੀਨ ਨਹੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
bhaagaheen nahee satigur paaeaa |3|
The unfortunate ones do not meet the True Guru. ||3||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬਦ-ਨਸੀਬ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਿਆ ॥੩॥
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਪੀਆਇਆ ॥
amrit har ras har aap peeaeaa |
The Lord Himself inspires us to drink in the Lord's Ambrosial Elixir.
(ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਪਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੩॥੫੫॥
gur poorai naanak har paaeaa |4|3|55|
Through the Perfect Guru, O Nanak, the Lord is obtained. ||4||3||55||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ॥੪॥੩॥੫੫॥

ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥

The Love of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the Support of my mind and body.
(ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੱਜਣੋਂ ਮਿੱਤਰੋ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਹੀ) ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੀ ਨਾਮੋ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
naam japee naamo sukh saar |1|
I chant the Naam the Naam is the essence of peace. ||1||
ਮੈਂ (ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਨਾਮ ਹੀ (ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ) ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਿਚੋੜ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਜਨ ਸੈਨਾ ॥

So chant the Naam, O my friends and companions.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਜਣੋਂ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰੋ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰੋ।
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਲੈਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
naam binaa mai avar na koee vaddai bhaag guramukh har lainaa |1| rahaau |
Without the Naam, there is nothing else for me. By great good fortune, as Gurmukh, I have received the Lord's Name. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਤਾਂ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ) ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ (ਆਸਰਾ) ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ। ਇਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹੀ ਜੀਵਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
naam binaa nahee jeeviaa jaae |
Without the Naam, I cannot live.
(ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰੋ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥
vaddai bhaag guramukh har paae |2|
By great good fortune, the Gurmukhs obtain the Naam. ||2||
ਇਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਨਾਮਹੀਨ ਕਾਲਖ ਮੁਖਿ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
naamaheen kaalakh mukh maaeaa |
Those who lack the Naam have their faces rubbed in the dirt of Maya.
(ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰੋ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੀਊਣਾ ਫਿਟਕਾਰ-ਜੋਗ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
naam binaa dhrig dhrig jeevaaeaa |3|
Without the Naam, cursed, cursed are their lives. ||3||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੇ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ (ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਕਾਰਨ ਮੂੰਹ ਉਤੇ ਕਾਲਖ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
