ਆਖੁ ਗੁਣਾ ਕਲਿ ਆਈਐ ॥
aakh gunaa kal aaeeai |
Chant the Praises of the Lord Kali Yuga has come.
(ਹੇ ਪੰਡਿਤ! ਤੇਰੇ ਕਹਿਣ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜੇ ਹੁਣ) ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਦਾ ਸਮਾ ਹੀ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਤਿਹੁ ਜੁਗ ਕੇਰਾ ਰਹਿਆ ਤਪਾਵਸੁ ਜੇ ਗੁਣ ਦੇਹਿ ਤ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tihu jug keraa rahiaa tapaavas je gun dehi ta paaeeai |1| rahaau |
The justice of the previous three ages is gone. One obtains virtue, only if the Lord bestows it. ||1||Pause||
(ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਤੀਰਥ ਵਰਤ ਆਦਿਕ ਕਰਮ ਕਾਂਡ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਧਰਮ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੀ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਹੈ, ਤੇ) ਪਹਿਲੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਜੁਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਹੁਣ ਮੁੱਕ ਚੁਕਾ ਹੈ। (ਸੋ, ਹੇ ਪੰਡਿਤ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਅਗੇ ਇਉਂ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕਰ-ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਨੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ) ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰ, ਇਹ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ-ਜੋਗ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕਲਿ ਕਲਵਾਲੀ ਸਰਾ ਨਿਬੇੜੀ ਕਾਜੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਹੋਆ ॥
kal kalavaalee saraa niberree kaajee krisanaa hoaa |
In this turbulent age of Kali Yuga, Muslim law decides the cases, and the blue-robed Qazi is the judge.
(ਹੇ ਪੰਡਿਤ) ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਇਹ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨੀ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਵਿਚ ਧੱਕੇ-ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਾਲ) ਝਗੜੇ ਵਧਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਇਸਲਾਮੀ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਹੀ ਫ਼ੈਸਲੇ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਨਿਆਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਕਾਜ਼ੀ-ਹਾਕਮ ਵੱਢੀ-ਖ਼ੋਰ ਹੋ ਚੁਕਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਾਣੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬੇਦੁ ਅਥਰਬਣੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਲਹਿਆ ॥੫॥
baanee brahamaa bed atharaban karanee keerat lahiaa |5|
The Guru's Bani has taken the place of Brahma's Veda, and the singing of the Lord's Praises are good deeds. ||5||
(ਜਾਦੂ ਟੂਣਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਪਰਚਾਰਕ) ਅਥਰਬਣ ਵੇਦ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਹੈ। ਉੱਚਾ ਆਚਰਨ ਤੇ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਲਹਿ ਗਏ ਹਨ-ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ॥੫॥
ਪਤਿ ਵਿਣੁ ਪੂਜਾ ਸਤ ਵਿਣੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਜਤ ਵਿਣੁ ਕਾਹੇ ਜਨੇਊ ॥
pat vin poojaa sat vin sanjam jat vin kaahe janeaoo |
Worship without faith self-discipline without truthfulness the ritual of the sacred thread without chastity - what good are these?
ਪਤੀ-ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਦੇਵ-ਪੂਜਾ ਕਿਸ ਅਰਥ? ਉੱਚੇ ਆਚਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਸੰਜਮ ਦਾ ਕੀਹ ਲਾਭ? ਜੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਰੋਕ-ਥੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ ਜਨੇਊ ਕੀਹ ਸੰਵਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਨਾਵਹੁ ਧੋਵਹੁ ਤਿਲਕੁ ਚੜਾਵਹੁ ਸੁਚ ਵਿਣੁ ਸੋਚ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੬॥
naavahu dhovahu tilak charraavahu such vin soch na hoee |6|
You may bathe and wash, and apply a ritualistic tilak mark to your forehead, but without inner purity, there is no understanding. ||6||
(ਹੇ ਪੰਡਿਤ!) ਤੁਸੀ (ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਤੇ) ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋ, (ਸਰੀਰ ਮਲ ਮਲ ਕੇ) ਧੋਂਦੇ ਹੋ, (ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ) ਤਿਲਕ ਲਾਂਦੇ ਹੋ (ਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਮ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹੋ), ਪਰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਆਚਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਇਹ ਬਾਹਰਲੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਕੋਈ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦੀ। (ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਭੁਲੇਖਾ ਭੀ ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਹੀ ਹੈ) ॥੬॥
ਕਲਿ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਕਤੇਬ ਕੁਰਾਣੁ ॥

In Kali Yuga, the Koran and the Bible have become famous.
(ਇਸਲਾਮੀ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਦੇ ਧੱਕੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦੇ ਹੇਠ) ਸ਼ਾਮੀ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਤੇ ਕੁਰਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਨਗੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ,
ਪੋਥੀ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਰਹੇ ਪੁਰਾਣ ॥

The Pandit's scriptures and the Puraanas are not respected.
ਪੰਡਿਤਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਆਦਿਕ ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਰਹਿ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਉ ਭਇਆ ਰਹਮਾਣੁ ॥
naanak naau bheaa rahamaan |
O Nanak, the Lord's Name now is Rehmaan, the Merciful.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਸ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਧੱਕੇ ਹੇਠ ਹੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ 'ਰਹਮਾਨ' ਆਖਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ- ਇਹ ਭੀ, ਹੇ ਪੰਡਿਤ! ਕਲਿਜੁਗ (ਦਾ ਲੱਛਣ) ਹੈ (ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਧੱਕੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਾਲ 'ਧਿਙਾਣੇ' ਨਾਲ ਦਬਾਣਾ ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਹੈ)।
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਤੂ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੭॥
kar karataa too eko jaan |7|
Know that there is only One Creator of the creation. ||7||
ਹੇ ਪੰਡਿਤ! ਹਰ ਇਕੋ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਹੈ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਜਾਣ ॥੭॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਏਦੂ ਉਪਰਿ ਕਰਮੁ ਨਹੀ ॥
naanak naam milai vaddiaaee edoo upar karam nahee |
Nanak has obtained the glorious greatness of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. There is no action higher than this.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਤੋਂ ਵਧੀਕ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਕਰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ (ਪੰਡਿਤ ਤੀਰਥ ਵਰਤ ਆਦਿਕ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਲਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਜੇ ਘਰਿ ਹੋਦੈ ਮੰਗਣਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਫਿਰਿ ਓਲਾਮਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਹੀ ॥੮॥੧॥
je ghar hodai mangan jaaeeai fir olaamaa milai tahee |8|1|
If someone goes out to beg for what is already in his own home, then he should be chastised. ||8||1||
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੁਲਾਇਆਂ ਇਹ ਸੂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਆਸਰੇ ਤੱਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੋਵੇ ਤੇ ਭੁੱਲੜ ਜੀਵ ਬਾਹਰ ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਆਦਿਕ ਤੋਂ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਫਿਰੇ, ਇਹ ਦੋਸ਼ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੧॥

ਜਗੁ ਪਰਬੋਧਹਿ ਮੜੀ ਬਧਾਵਹਿ ॥

You preach to the world, and set up your house.
(ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ!) ਤੂੰ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ (ਇਸ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਵੱਟੇ ਘਰ ਘਰ ਭਿੱਛਿਆ ਮੰਗ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ) ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ (ਪਾਲ ਪਾਲ ਕੇ) ਮੋਟਾ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਆਸਣੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਕਾਹੇ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥

Abandoning your Yogic postures, how will you find the True Lord?
(ਦਰ ਦਰ ਭਟਕਣ ਨਾਲ) ਮਨ ਦੀ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਗਵਾ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਅਡੋਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈਂ?
ਮਮਤਾ ਮੋਹੁ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਹਿਤਕਾਰੀ ॥
mamataa mohu kaaman hitakaaree |
You are attached to possessiveness and the love of sexual pleasure.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੋਵੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ ਜੋ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੀ ਹੋਵੇ,
ਨਾ ਅਉਧੂਤੀ ਨਾ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
naa aaudhootee naa sansaaree |1|
You are not a renunciate, nor a man of the world. ||1||
ਉਹ ਨਾਹ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਰਿਹਾ ਨਾਹ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤੀ ਬਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
ਜੋਗੀ ਬੈਸਿ ਰਹਹੁ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਭਾਗੈ ॥
jogee bais rahahu dubidhaa dukh bhaagai |
Yogi, remain seated, and the pain of duality will run away from you.
ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਆਸਰਾ ਭਾਲਣ ਦੀ ਝਾਕ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ।
ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਮਾਗਤ ਲਾਜ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ghar ghar maagat laaj na laagai |1| rahaau |
You beg from door to door, and you don't feel ashamed. ||1||Pause||
ਘਰ ਘਰ (ਮੰਗਣ ਦੀ) ਸ਼ਰਮ ਭੀ ਨਾਹ ਉਠਾਣੀ ਪਏਗੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗਾਵਹਿ ਗੀਤ ਨ ਚੀਨਹਿ ਆਪੁ ॥
gaaveh geet na cheeneh aap |
You sing the songs, but you do not understand your own self.
(ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ! ਤੂੰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਾਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਭਜਨ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਪਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ।
ਕਿਉ ਲਾਗੀ ਨਿਵਰੈ ਪਰਤਾਪੁ ॥

How will the burning pain within be relieved?
(ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਤਪਸ਼ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ (ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੀਤ ਸੁਣਾਇਆਂ) ਇਹ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਦੂਰ ਹੋਵੇ?
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਚੈ ਮਨ ਭਾਇ ॥
gur kai sabad rachai man bhaae |
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, let your mind be absorbed in the Lord's Love,
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਭਿਖਿਆ ਸਹਜ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ਖਾਇ ॥੨॥
bhikhiaa sehaj veechaaree khaae |2|
and you will intuitively experience the charity of contemplation. ||2||
ਉਹ ਅਡੋਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ) ਭਿੱਛਿਆ (ਲੈ ਕੇ) ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਭਸਮ ਚੜਾਇ ਕਰਹਿ ਪਾਖੰਡੁ ॥
bhasam charraae kareh paakhandd |
You apply ashes to your body, while acting in hypocrisy.
(ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ!) ਤੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿੰਡੇ ਉਤੇ) ਸੁਆਹ ਮਲ ਕੇ (ਤਿਆਗੀ ਹੋਣ ਦਾ, ਪਖੰਡ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਹਹਿ ਜਮ ਡੰਡੁ ॥
maaeaa mohi saheh jam ddandd |
Attached to Maya, you will be beaten by Death's heavy club.
(ਪਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ (ਪ੍ਰਬਲ) ਹੈ (ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ) ਤੂੰ ਜਮ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਭੁਗਤ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਫੂਟੈ ਖਾਪਰੁ ਭੀਖ ਨ ਭਾਇ ॥
foottai khaapar bheekh na bhaae |
Your begging bowl is broken it will not hold the charity of the Lord's Love.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਖੱਪਰ ਟੁੱਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਅਡੋਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ) ਉਸ ਵਿਚ (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ) ਉਹ ਭਿੱਛਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਠਹਿਰ ਸਕਦੀ ਜੋ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬੰਧਨਿ ਬਾਧਿਆ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
bandhan baadhiaa aavai jaae |3|
Bound in bondage, you come and go. ||3||
ਅਜੇਹਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਜੇਵੜੀ ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਬਿੰਦੁ ਨ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਜਤੀ ਕਹਾਵਹਿ ॥
bind na raakheh jatee kahaaveh |
You do not control your seed and semen, and yet you claim to practice abstinence.
ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ! ਤੂੰ ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸਨਾ ਤੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਚਾਂਦਾ, ਪਰ (ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਜਤੀ ਅਖਵਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਮਾਈ ਮਾਗਤ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਲੋਭਾਵਹਿ ॥
maaee maagat trai lobhaaveh |
You beg from Maya, lured by the three qualities.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਤ੍ਰੈਗੁਣੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਨਿਰਦਇਆ ਨਹੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਉਜਾਲਾ ॥
niradeaa nahee jot ujaalaa |
You have no compassion the Lord's Light does not shine in you.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਕਠੋਰਤਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ,
ਬੂਡਤ ਬੂਡੇ ਸਰਬ ਜੰਜਾਲਾ ॥੪॥
booddat boodde sarab janjaalaa |4|
You are drowned, drowned in worldly entanglements. ||4||
(ਸਹਿਜੇ ਸਹਿਜੇ) ਡੁੱਬਦਾ ਡੁੱਬਦਾ ਉਹ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਜੰਜਾਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਭੇਖ ਕਰਹਿ ਖਿੰਥਾ ਬਹੁ ਥਟੂਆ ॥
bhekh kareh khinthaa bahu thattooaa |
You wear religious robes, and your patched coat assumes many disguises.
(ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ!) ਗੋਦੜੀ ਆਦਿਕ ਦਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਅਡੰਬਰ ਰਚਾ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ (ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਲਈ) ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਪਹਿਰਾਵਾ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਝੂਠੋ ਖੇਲੁ ਖੇਲੈ ਬਹੁ ਨਟੂਆ ॥
jhoottho khel khelai bahu nattooaa |
You play all sorts of false tricks, like a juggler.
ਪਰ ਤੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਅਡੰਬਰ ਉਸ ਮਦਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੈ ਜੋ (ਲੋਕਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਮਾਣ ਲਈ) ਝੂਠਾ ਖੇਲ ਹੀ ਖੇਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਉਹ ਵਿਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਦਾ ਧੋਖਾ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅਗਨਿ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਬਹੁ ਜਾਰੇ ॥
antar agan chintaa bahu jaare |
The fire of anxiety burns brightly within you.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਤੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਅੰਦਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਾੜ ਰਹੀ ਹੋਵੇ,
ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਪਾਰੇ ॥੫॥
vin karamaa kaise utaras paare |5|
Without the karma of good actions, how can you cross over? ||5||
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਅੱਗ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਭਾਂਬੜ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੰਘ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੫॥
ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਫਟਕ ਬਨਾਈ ਕਾਨਿ ॥
mundraa fattak banaaee kaan |
You make ear-rings of glass to wear in your ears.
(ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ!) ਤੂੰ ਕੱਚ ਦੀ ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਕੰਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ,
ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਬਿਗਿਆਨਿ ॥
mukat nahee bidiaa bigiaan |
But liberation does not come from learning without understanding.
ਪਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਵਿੱਦਿਆ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਜਿਹਵਾ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਸਾਦਿ ਲੋੁਭਾਨਾ ॥
jihavaa indree saad luobhaanaa |
You are lured by the tastes of the tongue and sex organs.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੀਭ ਤੇ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਚਸਕੇ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਵੇ (ਉਹ ਵੇਖਣ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੈ,
ਪਸੂ ਭਏ ਨਹੀ ਮਿਟੈ ਨੀਸਾਨਾ ॥੬॥
pasoo bhe nahee mittai neesaanaa |6|
You have become a beast this sign cannot be erased. ||6||
ਪਰ ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚ) ਪਸ਼ੂ ਹੈ, (ਬਾਹਰਲੇ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਭੇਖ ਨਾਲ) ਉਸ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਪਸ਼ੂ-ਪੁਣੇ ਦਾ (ਅੰਦਰਲਾ) ਲੱਛਣ ਮਿਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੬॥
ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਲੋਗਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਜੋਗਾ ॥
tribidh logaa tribidh jogaa |
The people of the world are entangled in the three modes the Yogis are entangled in the three modes.
(ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ! ਖਿੰਥਾ ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਨਾਲ ਤਾਂ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣ ਜਾਈਦਾ। ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਸਾਧਾਰਨ ਜਗਤ ਤ੍ਰੈਗੁਣੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਗ੍ਰਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਤਿਵੇਂ (ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ) ਜੋਗੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੈ ਚੂਕਸਿ ਸੋਗਾ ॥

Contemplating the Word of the Shabad, sorrows are dispelled.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੋਚ-ਮੰਡਲ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੀ) ਉਸ ਦੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਊਜਲੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਸੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
aoojal saach su sabad hoe |
Through the Shabad, one becomes radiant, pure and truthful.
ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜੋਗੀ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ਸੋਇ ॥੭॥
jogee jugat veechaare soe |7|
One who contemplates the true lifestyle is a Yogi. ||7||
ਉਹੀ ਅਸਲ ਜੋਗੀ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਤੁਝ ਪਹਿ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਤੂ ਕਰਣੈ ਜੋਗੁ ॥
tujh peh nau nidh too karanai jog |
The nine treasures are with You, Lord You are potent, the Cause of causes.
(ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ!) ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਣ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ, ਸਾਰੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਗੁ ॥

You establish and disestablish whatever You do, happens.
ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਰਚਨਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਉਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਤੁ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਚੀਤੁ ॥

One who practices celibacy, chastity, self-control, truth and pure consciousness
ਉਸੇ ਜੋਗੀ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਜਤ ਹੈ ਸਤ ਹੈ ਸੰਜਮ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋਗੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਮੀਤੁ ॥੮॥੨॥

- O Nanak, that Yogi is the friend of the three worlds. ||8||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਜੋਗੀ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਭਵਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਜੋਗੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੮॥੨॥

ਖਟੁ ਮਟੁ ਦੇਹੀ ਮਨੁ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ॥

Above the six chakras of the body dwells the detached mind.
(ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਮੇਰਾ ਖਟ-ਚੱਕ੍ਰੀ ਸਰੀਰ ਹੀ (ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਮਠ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਇਸ ਮਠ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ) ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਵੈਰਾਗੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਧੁਨਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜਾਗੀ ॥

Awareness of the vibration of the Word of the Shabad has been awakened deep within.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਜਾਗ ਪਈ ਹੈ।
ਵਾਜੈ ਅਨਹਦੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਲੀਣਾ ॥
vaajai anahad meraa man leenaa |
The unstruck melody of the sound current resonates and resounds within my mind is attuned to it.
(ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਪਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਪਤੀਣਾ ॥੧॥

Through the Guru's Teachings, my faith is confirmed in the True Name. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਗਿੱਝ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
praanee raam bhagat sukh paaeeai |
O mortal, through devotion to the Lord, peace is obtained.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੀਠਾ ਲਾਗੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
guramukh har har meetthaa laagai har har naam samaaeeai |1| rahaau |
The Lord, Har, Har, seems sweet to the Gurmukh, who merges in the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
