ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਜਤੀ ਸਤੀ ਸੰਤੋਖੀ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਵੀਰ ਕਰਾਰੇ ॥
gaavan tudhano jatee satee santokhee gaavan tudhano veer karaare |
The celibates, the fanatics, and the peacefully accepting sing of You the fearless warriors sing of You.
ਜਤੀ, ਦਾਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਤੋਖੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਬੇਅੰਤ ਤਕੜੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਹੀ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪੜਨਿ ਰਖੀਸੁਰ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਵੇਦਾ ਨਾਲੇ ॥
gaavan tudhano panddit parran rakheesur jug jug vedaa naale |
The Pandits, the religious scholars who recite the Vedas, with the supreme sages of all the ages, sing of You.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਪੰਡਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਮਹਾ ਰਿਖੀ ਜੋ (ਵੇਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ, ਵੇਦਾਂ ਸਣੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਜਸ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਮੋਹਣੀਆ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਨਿ ਸੁਰਗੁ ਮਛੁ ਪਇਆਲੇ ॥
gaavan tudhano mohaneea man mohan surag machh peaale |
The Mohinis, the enchanting heavenly beauties who entice hearts in paradise, in this world, and in the underworld of the subconscious, sing of You.
ਸੁੰਦਰ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਜੋ (ਆਪਣੀ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹ ਲੈਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਗਾ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ, (ਭਾਵ, ਤੇਰੀ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਦਾ ਪਰਕਾਸ਼ ਕਰ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ)। ਸੁਰਗ-ਲੋਕ, ਮਾਤ-ਲੋਕ ਅਤੇ ਪਤਾਲ-ਲੋਕ (ਭਾਵ, ਸੁਰਗ ਮਾਤ ਅਤੇ ਪਤਾਲ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਆ ਜੰਤ) ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਰਤਨ ਉਪਾਏ ਤੇਰੇ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਲੇ ॥
gaavan tudhano ratan upaae tere atthasatth teerath naale |
The celestial jewels created by You, and the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage, sing of You.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੇਰੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਤਨ ਅਠਾਹਠ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਸਮੇਤ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਗਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਜੋਧ ਮਹਾਬਲ ਸੂਰਾ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਖਾਣੀ ਚਾਰੇ ॥
gaavan tudhano jodh mahaabal sooraa gaavan tudhano khaanee chaare |
The brave and mighty warriors sing of You. The spiritual heroes and the four sources of creation sing of You.
ਵੱਡੇ ਬਲ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੋਧੇ ਅਤੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ (ਤੇਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਬਲ ਵਿਖਾ ਕੇ) ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ (ਤਾਕਤ ਦੀ) ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਚੌਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਖਾਣੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਗਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਖੰਡ ਮੰਡਲ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਰਖੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
gaavan tudhano khandd manddal brahamanddaa kar kar rakhe tere dhaare |
The worlds, solar systems and galaxies, created and arranged by Your Hand, sing of You.
ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ, ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਖੰਡ ਤੇ ਮੰਡਲ, ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਟਿਕਾ ਰੱਖੇ ਹਨ, ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸੇਈ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਨਿ ਰਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਰਸਾਲੇ ॥
seee tudhano gaavan jo tudh bhaavan rate tere bhagat rasaale |
They alone sing of You, who are pleasing to Your Will. Your devotees are imbued with Your Sublime Essence.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚ ਉਹੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸਫਲ ਹੈ) ਜੋ ਤੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਰਸੀਏ ਭਗਤ ਹਨ, ਉਹੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹੋਰਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਸੇ ਮੈ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਨਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਿਆ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥
hor kete tudhano gaavan se mai chit na aavan naanak kiaa beechaare |
So many others sing of You, they do not come to mind. O Nanak, how can I think of them all?
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੋਰ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਮੈਥੋਂ ਗਿਣੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ। (ਭਲਾ, ਇਸ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਬਾਰੇ) ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀਹ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? (ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਨ-ਜੋਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ)।
ਸੋਈ ਸੋਈ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਚੀ ਨਾਈ ॥
soee soee sadaa sach saahib saachaa saachee naaee |
That True Lord is True, forever True, and True is His Name.
ਜਿਸ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਇਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਭੀ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੈ ਭੀ ਹੋਸੀ ਜਾਇ ਨ ਜਾਸੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਚਾਈ ॥
hai bhee hosee jaae na jaasee rachanaa jin rachaaee |
He is, and shall always be. He shall not depart, even when this Universe which He has created departs.
ਉਹ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ।
ਰੰਗੀ ਰੰਗੀ ਭਾਤੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਜਿਨਸੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਉਪਾਈ ॥
rangee rangee bhaatee kar kar jinasee maaeaa jin upaaee |
He created the world, with its various colors, species of beings, and the variety of Maya.
ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਕਈ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਤੇ ਜਿਨਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਰਚ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਕੀਤਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਜਿਉ ਤਿਸ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
kar kar dekhai keetaa aapanaa jiau tis dee vaddiaaee |
Having created the creation, He watches over it Himself, by His Greatness.
ਉਹ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ, ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਸੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਕਰਣਾ ਜਾਈ ॥
jo tis bhaavai soee karasee fir hukam na karanaa jaaee |
He does whatever He pleases. No one can issue any order to Him.
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਉਸ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਉਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੈਂਕੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਖਾ ਸਕਦਾ (ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖ ਸਕਦਾ 'ਇਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ, ਇਉਂ ਕਰ')।
ਸੋ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ਸਾਹਾ ਪਤਿਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਹਣੁ ਰਜਾਈ ॥੧॥
so paatisaahu saahaa patisaahib naanak rehan rajaaee |1|
He is the King, the King of kings, the Supreme Lord and Master of kings. Nanak remains subject to His Will. ||1||
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ) ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ, ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਭੀ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਹੀ ਫਬਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥{9}

Aasaa, First Mehl:
ਸੁਣਿ ਵਡਾ ਆਖੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
sun vaddaa aakhai sabh koe |
Hearing of His Greatness, everyone calls Him Great.
ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ (ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼) ਸੁਣ ਕੇ (ਹੀ) ਆਖ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ (ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੂੰ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਕੇਵਡੁ ਵਡਾ ਡੀਠਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
kevadd vaddaa ddeetthaa hoe |
But just how Great His Greatness is-this is known only to those who have seen Him.
ਪਰ ਤੂੰ ਕੇਡਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈਂ (ਕਿਤਨਾ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈਂ?) ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ (ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈਂ)।
ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਇ ਨ ਕਹਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
keemat paae na kahiaa jaae |
His Value cannot be estimated He cannot be described.
ਤੇਰੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਤੇਰੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਦਾ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਕਹਣੈ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
kahanai vaale tere rahe samaae |1|
Those who describe You, Lord, remain immersed and absorbed in You. ||1||
ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਆਖਣ ਵਾਲੇ (ਆਪਾ ਭੁੱਲ ਕੇ) ਤੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ (ਹੀ) ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਵਡੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰਾ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰਾ ॥
vadde mere saahibaa gahir ganbheeraa gunee gaheeraa |
O my Great Lord and Master of Unfathomable Depth, You are the Ocean of Excellence.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਤੂੰ (ਮਾਨੋ, ਇਕ) ਡੂੰਘਾ (ਸਮੁੰਦਰ) ਹੈਂ। ਤੂੰ ਬੜੇ ਜਿਗਰੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੇਤਾ ਕੇਵਡੁ ਚੀਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
koe na jaanai teraa ketaa kevadd cheeraa |1| rahaau |
No one knows the extent or the vastness of Your Expanse. ||1||Pause||
ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਕਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਕਿਤਨਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਵਿਸਥਾਰ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਭਿ ਸੁਰਤੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਈ ॥
sabh suratee mil surat kamaaee |
All the intuitives met and practiced intuitive meditation.
(ਤੂੰ ਕੇਡਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈਂ-ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਲੱਭਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਸਮਾਧੀਆਂ ਲਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਈ ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਜੋਗੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਜੋੜਨ ਦੇ ਜਤਨ ਕੀਤੇ , ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜਤਨ ਕੀਤੇ।
ਸਭ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
sabh keemat mil keemat paaee |
All the appraisers met and made the appraisal.
ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ (ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ-ਵੇੱਤਾ) ਵਿਚਾਰਵਾਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪੋ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਦੀ ਸਹੈਤਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ, ਤੇਰੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਹਸਤੀ ਲੱਭਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ,
ਗਿਆਨੀ ਧਿਆਨੀ ਗੁਰ ਗੁਰਹਾਈ ॥
giaanee dhiaanee gur gurahaaee |
The spiritual teachers, the teachers of meditation, and the teachers of teachers
()
ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਤੇਰੀ ਤਿਲੁ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੨॥
kehan na jaaee teree til vaddiaaee |2|
-they cannot describe even an iota of Your Greatness. ||2||
ਪਰ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਤਿਲ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਭੀ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੱਸ ਸਕੇ ॥੨॥
ਸਭਿ ਸਤ ਸਭਿ ਤਪ ਸਭਿ ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆ ॥
sabh sat sabh tap sabh changiaaeea |
All Truth, all austere discipline, all goodness,
(ਵਿਚਾਰਵਾਨ ਕੀਹ ਤੇ ਸਿਧ ਜੋਗੀ ਕੀਹ? ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦਾ ਅੰਦਾਜ਼ਾ ਤਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਾ ਸਕਿਆ, ਪਰ ਵਿਚਾਰਵਾਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਭਲੇ ਕੰਮ
ਸਿਧਾ ਪੁਰਖਾ ਕੀਆ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ॥
sidhaa purakhaa keea vaddiaaeea |
all the great miraculous spiritual powers of the Siddhas
ਸਾਰੇ ਤਪ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣ, ਸਿੱਧਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ (ਰਿੱਧੀਆਂ ਸਿੱਧੀਆਂ ਆਦਿਕ) ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਕੰਮ
ਤੁਧੁ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਿਧੀ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਈਆ ॥
tudh vin sidhee kinai na paaeea |
without You, no one has attained such powers.
ਇਹ ਕਾਮਯਾਬੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਹੈਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਈ।
ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਈਆ ॥੩॥
karam milai naahee tthaak rahaaeea |3|
They are received only by Your Grace. No one can block them or stop their flow. ||3||
(ਜਿਸ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਧੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ) ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਤੇ, ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਰੋਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਿਆ ॥੩॥
ਆਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਕਿਆ ਵੇਚਾਰਾ ॥
aakhan vaalaa kiaa vechaaraa |
What can the poor helpless creatures do?
ਜੀਵ ਦੀ ਕੀਹ ਪਾਂਇਆਂ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰ ਸਕੇ?
ਸਿਫਤੀ ਭਰੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥
sifatee bhare tere bhanddaaraa |
Your Praises are overflowing with Your Treasures.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਭਰੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂ ਦੇਹਿ ਤਿਸੈ ਕਿਆ ਚਾਰਾ ॥
jis too dehi tisai kiaa chaaraa |
Those, unto whom You give-how can they think of any other?
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਰੁਕਾਵਟ ਪਾਣ ਲਈ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੱਲ ਸਕਦਾ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੨॥
naanak sach savaaranahaaraa |4|2|
O Nanak, the True One embellishes and exalts. ||4||2||
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ (ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ) ਨੂੰ ਸੰਵਾਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ (ਆਪ) ਹੈਂ ॥੪॥੨॥{9}

Aasaa, First Mehl:
ਆਖਾ ਜੀਵਾ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
aakhaa jeevaa visarai mar jaau |
Chanting it, I live forgetting it, I die.
(ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ) ਮੈਂ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਤਿਉਂ ਤਿਉਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਆਖਣਿ ਅਉਖਾ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥
aakhan aaukhaa saachaa naau |
It is so difficult to chant the True Name.
(ਇਹ ਪਤਾ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਭੀ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ-ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਔਖਾ (ਕੰਮ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਸਾਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਲਾਗੈ ਭੂਖ ॥
saache naam kee laagai bhookh |
If someone feels hunger for the True Name,
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਉਤੁ ਭੂਖੈ ਖਾਇ ਚਲੀਅਹਿ ਦੂਖ ॥੧॥
aut bhookhai khaae chaleeeh dookh |1|
that hunger shall consume his pain. ||1||
ਉਸ ਤਾਂਘ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ-ਭੋਜਨ) ਖਾ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਇ ॥
so kiau visarai meree maae |
How can I forget Him, O my mother?
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਂ! (ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ ਕਿ) ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਨਾਹ ਭੁੱਲੇ।
ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰੀਏ, ਤਿਉਂ ਤਿਉਂ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਾਲਕ (ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਾਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਤਿਲੁ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

Trying to describe even an iota of the Greatness of the True Name,
ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਤਾ ਜਿਤਨੀ ਭੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ…
ਆਖਿ ਥਕੇ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
aakh thake keemat nahee paaee |
people have grown weary, but they have not been able to evaluate it.
ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ) ਥੱਕ ਗਏ ਹਨ (ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ)। ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੱਸ ਸਕਿਆ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦੀ ਕਿਹੜੀ ਹਸਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਜੇ ਸਭਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੈ ਆਖਣ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
je sabh mil kai aakhan paeh |
Even if everyone were to gather together and speak of Him,
ਜੇ (ਜਗਤ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਰਲ ਕੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ) ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਨ,
ਵਡਾ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਘਾਟਿ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
vaddaa na hovai ghaatt na jaae |2|
He would not become any greater or any lesser. ||2||
ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅਸਲੇ ਨਾਲੋਂ) ਵੱਡਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ (ਤੇ, ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਨਾਹ ਕਰੇ), ਤਾਂ ਉਹ (ਅੱਗੇ ਨਾਲੋਂ) ਘੱਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ। (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਦਾ ਲਾਲਚ ਨਹੀਂ) ॥੨॥
ਨਾ ਓਹੁ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋਗੁ ॥
naa ohu marai na hovai sog |
That Lord does not die there is no reason to mourn.
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਦੇ ਮਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਨਾਹ ਹੀ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ਸੋਗ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੇਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਚੂਕੈ ਭੋਗੁ ॥
dedaa rahai na chookai bhog |
He continues to give, and His Provisions never run short.
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਿਜ਼ਕ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਰਤਣਾ ਕਦੇ ਮੁੱਕਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ (ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਵਰਤਣ ਨਾਲ ਕਦੇ ਮੁਕਦੀਆਂ ਨਹੀਂ)।
ਗੁਣੁ ਏਹੋ ਹੋਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
gun eho hor naahee koe |
This Virtue is His alone there is no other like Him.
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਖ਼ੂਬੀ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਉਸ ਵਰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਨਾ ਕੋ ਹੋਆ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥
naa ko hoaa naa ko hoe |3|
There never has been, and there never will be. ||3||
(ਉਸ ਵਰਗਾ ਅਜੇ ਤਕ) ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਨਾਹ ਕਦੇ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ॥੩॥
ਜੇਵਡੁ ਆਪਿ ਤੇਵਡ ਤੇਰੀ ਦਾਤਿ ॥
jevadd aap tevadd teree daat |
As Great as You Yourself are, O Lord, so Great are Your Gifts.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜਿਤਨਾ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੈਂ ਉਤਨੀ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼।
