ਕਿਸੁ ਭਰਵਾਸੈ ਬਿਚਰਹਿ ਭਵਨ ॥

What supports you in this world?
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ) ਕਿਸ ਦੇ ਸਹਾਰੇ ਤੂੰ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ?
ਮੂੜ ਮੁਗਧ ਤੇਰਾ ਸੰਗੀ ਕਵਨ ॥
moorr mugadh teraa sangee kavan |
You ignorant fool, who is your companion?
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ) ਤੇਰਾ ਕੌਣ ਸਾਥੀ (ਬਣ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ)?
ਰਾਮੁ ਸੰਗੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨਹਿ ॥
raam sangee tis gat nahee jaaneh |
The Lord is your only companion no one knows His condition.
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਹੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਅਸਲ) ਸਾਥੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ।
ਪੰਚ ਬਟਵਾਰੇ ਸੇ ਮੀਤ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਹਿ ॥੧॥
panch battavaare se meet kar maaneh |1|
You look upon the five thieves as your friends. ||1||
(ਇਹ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਪੰਜ ਡਾਕੂ ਹਨ, ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਸਮਝ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥
ਸੋ ਘਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਉਧਰਹਿ ਮੀਤ ॥
so ghar sev jit udhareh meet |
Serve that home, which will save you, my friend.
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਉਹ ਘਰ-ਦਰ ਮੱਲੀ ਰੱਖ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਤੂੰ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਸਕੇਂ।
ਗੁਣ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਰਵੀਅਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gun govind raveeeh din raatee saadhasang kar man kee preet |1| rahaau |
Chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe, day and night in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, love Him in your mind. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਜੋੜ, (ਉਥੇ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ) ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ (ਸਦਾ) ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਗਾਏ ਜਾਣੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਨਮੁ ਬਿਹਾਨੋ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਅਰੁ ਵਾਦਿ ॥
janam bihaano ahankaar ar vaad |
This human life is passing away in egotism and conflict.
ਜੀਵ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਝਗੜੇ-ਬਖੇੜੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਜ਼ਰਦੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਸਾਦਿ ॥
tripat na aavai bikhiaa saad |
You are not satisfied such is the flavor of sin.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਵਿਚ (ਇਸ ਦੀ ਕਦੇ) ਤਸੱਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ (ਕਦੇ ਰੱਜਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ)।
ਭਰਮਤ ਭਰਮਤ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
bharamat bharamat mahaa dukh paaeaa |
Wandering and roaming around, you suffer terrible pain.
ਭਟਕਦਿਆਂ ਭਟਕਦਿਆਂ ਇਸ ਨੇ ਬੜਾ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਤਰੀ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਦੁਤਰ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
taree na jaaee dutar maaeaa |2|
You cannot cross over the impassable sea of Maya. ||2||
ਮਾਇਆ (ਮਾਨੋ, ਇਕ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ, ਇਸ) ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ। (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੰਘਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੨॥
ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਸੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
kaam na aavai su kaar kamaavai |
You do the deeds which do not help you at all.
ਜੀਵ ਸਦਾ ਉਹੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ (ਆਖ਼ਰ ਇਸ ਦੇ) ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ।
ਆਪਿ ਬੀਜਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਖਾਵੈ ॥
aap beej aape hee khaavai |
As you plant, so shall you harvest.
(ਮੰਦੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੀਜ) ਆਪ ਬੀਜ ਕੇ (ਫਿਰ) ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ-ਫਲ) ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਰਾਖਨ ਕਉ ਦੂਸਰ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
raakhan kau doosar nahee koe |
There is none other than the Lord to save you.
(ਇਸ ਬਿਪਤਾ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਬਚਾਣ-ਜੋਗਾ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਤਉ ਨਿਸਤਰੈ ਜਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥
tau nisatarai jau kirapaa hoe |3|
You will be saved, only if God grants His Grace. ||3||
ਜਦੋਂ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਮਿਹਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਪਤਿਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੋ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
patit puneet prabh tero naam |
Your Name, God, is the Purifier of sinners.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਡਿੱਗੇ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
ਅਪਨੇ ਦਾਸ ਕਉ ਕੀਜੈ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
apane daas kau keejai daan |
Please bless Your slave with that gift.
(ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਦਾਨ ਦੇਹ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮੇਰੀ ॥
kar kirapaa prabh gat kar meree |
Please grant Your Grace, God, and emancipate me.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੇਰੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਉੱਚੀ ਬਣਾ।
ਸਰਣਿ ਗਹੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ॥੪॥੩੭॥੪੮॥

Nanak has grasped Your Sanctuary, God. ||4||37||48||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੩੭॥੪੮॥

ਇਹ ਲੋਕੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
eih loke sukh paaeaa |
I have found peace in this world.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਿਆ,
ਨਹੀ ਭੇਟਤ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇਆ ॥
nahee bhettat dharam raaeaa |
I will not have to appear before the Righteous Judge of Dharma to give my account.
(ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਨਾਲ ਵਾਹ ਨਾਹ ਪਿਆ।
ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤ ॥
har daragah sobhaavant |
I will be respected in the Court of the Lord,
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਭਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਫੁਨਿ ਗਰਭਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਬਸੰਤ ॥੧॥
fun garabh naahee basant |1|
and I will not have to enter the womb of reincarnation ever again. ||1||
ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ (ਭੀ) ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ ॥੧॥
ਜਾਨੀ ਸੰਤ ਕੀ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾਈ ॥
jaanee sant kee mitraaee |
Now, I know the value of friendship with the Saints.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਹੁਣ) ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਸਮਝ ਲਈ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੀਨੋ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਸੰਜੋਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kar kirapaa deeno har naamaa poorab sanjog milaaee |1| rahaau |
In His Mercy, the Lord has blessed me with His Name. My pre-ordained destiny has been fulfilled. ||1||Pause||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਸੰਜੋਗ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰਤਾ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਚਰਣਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
gur kai charan chit laagaa |
My consciousness is attached to the Guru's feet.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ, ਮੇਰਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਸੀ,
ਧੰਨਿ ਧੰਨਿ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ਸਭਾਗਾ ॥
dhan dhan sanjog sabhaagaa |
Blessed, blessed is this fortunate time of union.
ਉਹ ਸੰਜੋਗ ਮੁਬਾਰਿਕ ਸੀ, ਮੁਬਾਰਿਕ ਸੀ, ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੀ।
ਸੰਤ ਕੀ ਧੂਰਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਾਥੇ ॥
sant kee dhoor laagee merai maathe |
I have applied the dust of the Saints' feet to my forehead,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਲੱਗੀ,
ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਦੁਖ ਸਗਲੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਾਥੇ ॥੨॥
kilavikh dukh sagale mere laathe |2|
and all my sins and pains have been eradicated. ||2||
ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਤੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ॥੨॥
ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਸਚੁ ਟਹਲ ਕਮਾਨੀ ॥
saadh kee sach ttehal kamaanee |
Performing true service to the Holy,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਜਦੋਂ ਜੀਵ ਸਰਧਾ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਟਹਿਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਤਬ ਹੋਏ ਮਨ ਸੁਧ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥
tab hoe man sudh paraanee |
the mortal's mind is purified.
ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਨ ਕਾ ਸਫਲ ਦਰਸੁ ਡੀਠਾ ॥
jan kaa safal daras ddeetthaa |
I have seen the fruitful vision of the Lord's humble slave.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ, ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਨਾਮ ਫਲ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੋਈ,
ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਵੂਠਾ ॥੩॥
naam prabhoo kaa ghatt ghatt vootthaa |3|
God's Name dwells within each and every heart. ||3||
(ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕਿ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਰੇਕ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਮਿਟਾਨੇ ਸਭਿ ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ॥
mittaane sabh kal kales |
All my troubles and sufferings have been taken away
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਸਾਰੇ (ਮਾਨਸਕ) ਝਗੜੇ ਤੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਉਪਜੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਹਿ ਪਰਵੇਸ ॥
jis te upaje tis meh paraves |
I have merged into the One, from whom I originated.
ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਜੀਵ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਉਸੇ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਲੀਨਤਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਗਟੇ ਆਨੂਪ ਗੋੁਵਿੰਦ ॥

The Lord of the Universe, incomparably beautiful, has become merciful.
ਉਹ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪੂਰੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸਿੰਦ ॥੪॥੩੮॥੪੯॥
prabh poore naanak bakhasind |4|38|49|
O Nanak, God is perfect and forgiving. ||4||38||49||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜਿਹੜਾ) ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਣਹਾਰ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੩੮॥੪੯॥

ਗਊ ਕਉ ਚਾਰੇ ਸਾਰਦੂਲੁ ॥
gaoo kau chaare saaradool |
The tiger leads the cow to the pasture,
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਕੇ) ਸ਼ੇਰ (ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨ) ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਉਡੀ ਕਾ ਲਖ ਹੂਆ ਮੂਲੁ ॥
kauddee kaa lakh hooaa mool |
the shell is worth thousands of dollars,
(ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਜੀਵ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ) ਕੌਡੀ (ਸਮਾਨ ਤੁੱਛ ਹਸਤੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ, ਹੁਣ ਉਸ) ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਲੱਖਾਂ ਰੁਪਏ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
ਬਕਰੀ ਕਉ ਹਸਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲੇ ॥
bakaree kau hasatee pratipaale |
and the elephant nurses the goat,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਆਮ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਹਾਥੀ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ) ਹਾਥੀ (ਮਨ) ਬੱਕਰੀ (ਵਾਲੇ ਗਰੀਬੀ ਸੁਭਾਉ) ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਸੰਭਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਅਪਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੇ ॥੧॥
apanaa prabh nadar nihaale |1|
when God bestows His Glance of Grace. ||1||
ਜਦੋਂ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਤੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
kripaa nidhaan preetam prabh mere |
You are the treasure of mercy, O my Beloved Lord God.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!
ਬਰਨਿ ਨ ਸਾਕਉ ਬਹੁ ਗੁਨ ਤੇਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
baran na saakau bahu gun tere |1| rahaau |
I cannot even describe Your many Glorious Virtues. ||1||Pause||
ਤੇਰੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਗੁਣ ਹਨ, ਮੈਂ (ਸਾਰੇ) ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਦੀਸਤ ਮਾਸੁ ਨ ਖਾਇ ਬਿਲਾਈ ॥
deesat maas na khaae bilaaee |
The cat sees the meat, but does not eat it,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ) ਬਿੱਲੀ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਮਾਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਂਦੀ (ਮਨ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਮਨ ਮਾਇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਵਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੱਕਦਾ)।
ਮਹਾ ਕਸਾਬਿ ਛੁਰੀ ਸਟਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
mahaa kasaab chhuree satt paaee |
and the great butcher throws away his knife
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਵੱਡੇ ਕਸਾਈ (ਨਿਰਦਈ ਮਨ) ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਛੁਰੀ ਸੁੱਟ ਦਿੱਤੀ (ਨਿਰਦਇਤਾ ਦਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿੱਤਾ)।
ਕਰਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵੂਠਾ ॥

the Creator Lord God abides in the heart
ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਦੋਂ (ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਿਆ,
ਫਾਥੀ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਕਾ ਜਾਲਾ ਤੂਟਾ ॥੨॥
faathee machhulee kaa jaalaa toottaa |2|
the net holding the fish breaks apart. ||2||
ਤਦੋਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ) ਫਸੀ ਹੋਈ (ਜੀਵ-) ਮੱਛੀ ਦਾ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ) ਜਾਲ ਟੁੱਟ ਗਿਆ ॥੨॥
ਸੂਕੇ ਕਾਸਟ ਹਰੇ ਚਲੂਲ ॥

The dry wood blossoms forth in greenery and red flowers
(ਜਦੋਂ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੋਈ ਤਾਂ) ਸੁੱਕੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਾਠ ਚੁਹ-ਚੁਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਰੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ (ਮਨ ਦਾ ਰੁੱਖਾਪਨ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਦਇਆ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਈ),
ਊਚੈ ਥਲਿ ਫੂਲੇ ਕਮਲ ਅਨੂਪ ॥

in the high desert, the beautiful lotus flower blooms.
ਉੱਚੇ ਟਿੱਬੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਕੌਲ-ਫੁੱਲ ਖਿੜ ਪਏ (ਜਿਸ ਆਕੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨ ਉਤੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਵਰਖਾ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਅਸਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਹੁਣ ਉਹ ਖਿੜ ਪਿਆ)।
ਅਗਨਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੇਵ ॥

The Divine True Guru puts out the fire.
ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ,
ਸੇਵਕੁ ਅਪਨੀ ਲਾਇਓ ਸੇਵ ॥੩॥
sevak apanee laaeo sev |3|
He links His servant to His service. ||3||
ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲਿਆ ॥੩॥
ਅਕਿਰਤਘਣਾ ਕਾ ਕਰੇ ਉਧਾਰੁ ॥
akirataghanaa kaa kare udhaar |
He saves even the ungrateful
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਨਾ-ਸ਼ੁਕਰਿਆਂ ਦਾ (ਵੀ) ਪਾਰ-ਉਤਾਰਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੈ ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆਰੁ ॥
prabh meraa hai sadaa deaar |
my God is forever merciful.
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਹੈ।
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਹਾਈ ॥
sant janaa kaa sadaa sahaaee |
He is forever the helper and support of the humble Saints.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੪॥੩੯॥੫੦॥

Nanak has found the Sanctuary of His lotus feet. ||4||39||50||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥੩੯॥੫੦॥
