ਨਿਹਚਲ ਆਸਨੁ ਬੇਸੁਮਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
nihachal aasan besumaar |2|
They obtain a permanent seat in the infinite. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਣ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ) ਕਦੇ ਡੋਲਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ। ਉਹ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਕੈਸੀ ਹੈ-ਇਸਦਾ ਅੰਦਾਜ਼ਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੨॥
ਡਿਗਿ ਨ ਡੋਲੈ ਕਤਹੂ ਨ ਧਾਵੈ ॥
ddig na ddolai katahoo na dhaavai |
No one falls there, or wavers, or goes anywhere.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਡਿੱਗ ਕੇ ਡੋਲਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਟਕਦਾ।
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਕੋ ਇਹੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
gur prasaad ko ihu mehal paavai |
By Guru's Grace, some find this mansion.
ਪਰ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭੈ ਮੋਹ ਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਾਲ ॥
bhram bhai moh na maaeaa jaal |
They are not touched by doubt, fear, attachment or the traps of Maya.
ਉਥੇ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਭਟਕਣਾਂ, ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਡਰ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ-ਇਹ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ।
ਸੁੰਨ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥੩॥
sun samaadh prabhoo kirapaal |3|
They enter the deepest state of Samaadhi, through the kind mercy of God. ||3||
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਮੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਐਸੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੁੜਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਮਾਇਕ ਫੁਰਨਾ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕਦਾ ॥੩॥
ਤਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥
taa kaa ant na paaraavaar |
He has no end or limitation.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਦਾ ਪਾਰਲਾ ਉਰਲਾ ਬੰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸ ਸਕਦਾ,
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਆਪੇ ਪਾਸਾਰੁ ॥
aape gupat aape paasaar |
He Himself is unmanifest, and He Himself is manifest.
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਇਸ ਜਗਤ-ਖਿਲਾਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਲੁਕਿਆ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਜਗਤ-ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੀ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ।
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਆਦੁ ॥
jaa kai antar har har suaad |
One who enjoys the taste of the Lord, Har, Har, deep within himself,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਕਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਸਮਾਦੁ ॥੪॥੯॥੨੦॥
kehan na jaaee naanak bisamaad |4|9|20|
O Nanak, his wondrous state cannot be described. ||4||9||20||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ਉਹ ਸੁਆਦ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੯॥੨੦॥

ਭੇਟਤ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਇਆ ॥

Meeting with the Sangat, the Congregation, the Supreme Lord God has come into my consciousness.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਿਆਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਚਿਤ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰਤ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਮਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
sangat karat santokh man paaeaa |
In the Sangat, my mind has found contentment.
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਮੈਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਸੰਤਹ ਚਰਨ ਮਾਥਾ ਮੇਰੋ ਪਉਤ ॥
santah charan maathaa mero paut |
I touch my forehead to the feet of the Saints.
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰੇ) ਮੇਰਾ ਮੱਥਾ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਪਿਆ ਰਹੇ,
ਅਨਿਕ ਬਾਰ ਸੰਤਹ ਡੰਡਉਤ ॥੧॥
anik baar santah ddanddaut |1|
Countless times, I humbly bow to the Saints. ||1||
ਮੈਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਾਰੀ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥
eihu man santan kai balihaaree |
This mind is a sacrifice to the Saints
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਸੰਤ-ਜਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਰਾਖੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jaa kee ott gahee sukh paaeaa raakhe kirapaa dhaaree |1| rahaau |
holding tight to their support, I have found peace, and in their mercy, they have protected me. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਆਨੰਦ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰ ਆਦਿਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸੰਤਹ ਚਰਣ ਧੋਇ ਧੋਇ ਪੀਵਾ ॥
santah charan dhoe dhoe peevaa |
I wash the feet of the Saints, and drink in that water.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ, ਤਾਂ) ਮੈਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਧੋ ਧੋ ਕੇ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ,
ਸੰਤਹ ਦਰਸੁ ਪੇਖਿ ਪੇਖਿ ਜੀਵਾ ॥
santah daras pekh pekh jeevaa |
Gazing upon the Blessed Vision of the Saints' Darshan, I live.
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੰਤਹ ਕੀ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਸ ॥
santah kee merai man aas |
My mind rests its hopes in the Saints.
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਦਾ ਧਰਵਾਸ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੰਤ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੨॥
sant hamaaree niramal raas |2|
The Saints are my immaculate wealth. ||2||
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸੰਤ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਪੜਦਾ ॥
sant hamaaraa raakhiaa parradaa |
The Saints have covered my faults.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰ ਆਦਿਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਮੇਰੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਬਚਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ,
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਕੜਦਾ ॥
sant prasaad mohi kabahoo na karradaa |
By the Grace of the Saints, I am no longer tormented.
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪਦਾ।
ਸੰਤਹ ਸੰਗੁ ਦੀਆ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥
santah sang deea kirapaal |
The Merciful Lord has blessed me with the Saints' Congregation.
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਮੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਸੰਤ ਸਹਾਈ ਭਏ ਦਇਆਲ ॥੩॥
sant sahaaee bhe deaal |3|
The Compassionate Saints have become my help and support. ||3||
ਜਦੋਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਬਣਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਸੁਰਤਿ ਮਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥

My consciousness, intellect and wisdom have been enlightened.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੀ) ਸੁਰਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਬੁੱਧਿ ਵਿਚ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਅਪਾਰ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੁ ॥

The Lord is profound, unfathomable, infinite, the treasure of virtue.
ਅਥਾਹ, ਬੇਅੰਤ, ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ,
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਗਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥
jeea jant sagale pratipaal |
He cherishes all beings and creatures.
ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ-
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤਹ ਦੇਖਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੨੧॥
naanak santah dekh nihaal |4|10|21|
Nanak is enraptured, seeing the Saints. ||4||10||21||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਪਣੇ) ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੨੧॥

ਤੇਰੈ ਕਾਜਿ ਨ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਰਾਜੁ ਮਾਲੁ ॥
terai kaaj na grihu raaj maal |
Your home, power and wealth will be of no use to you.
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਇਹ ਘਰ, ਇਹ ਹਕੂਮਤ, ਇਹ ਧਨ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ) ਤੇਰੇ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ) ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਤੇਰੈ ਕਾਜਿ ਨ ਬਿਖੈ ਜੰਜਾਲੁ ॥
terai kaaj na bikhai janjaal |
Your corrupt worldly entanglements will be of no use to you.
ਮਾਇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਝੰਬੇਲਾ ਭੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਲਾਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਇਸਟ ਮੀਤ ਜਾਣੁ ਸਭ ਛਲੈ ॥
eisatt meet jaan sabh chhalai |
Know that all your dear friends are fake.
ਚੇਤਾ ਰੱਖ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ (ਤੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਛਲ-ਰੂਪ ਹੀ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਚਲੈ ॥੧॥
har har naam sang terai chalai |1|
Only the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, will go along with you. ||1||
ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਥ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਲੇ ਮੀਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਤੇਰੀ ਲਾਜ ਰਹੈ ॥
raam naam gun gaae le meetaa har simarat teree laaj rahai |
Sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord's Name, O friend remembering the Lord in meditation, your honor shall be saved.
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ (ਇਸ ਵੇਲੇ) ਗਾ ਲੈ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਹੀ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਤੇਰੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਜਮੁ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਕਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har simarat jam kachh na kahai |1| rahaau |
Remembering the Lord in meditation, the Messenger of Death will not touch you. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਜਮਰਾਜ ਭੀ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਗਲ ਨਿਰਾਰਥ ਕਾਮ ॥
bin har sagal niraarath kaam |
Without the Lord, all pursuits are useless.
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ (ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
ਸੁਇਨਾ ਰੁਪਾ ਮਾਟੀ ਦਾਮ ॥
sueinaa rupaa maattee daam |
Gold, silver and wealth are just dust.
(ਜੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ, ਤਾਂ) ਸੋਨਾ, ਚਾਂਦੀ, ਰੁਪਇਆ-ਪੈਸੇ (ਤੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਮਿੱਟੀ (-ਸਮਾਨ) ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਜਾਪਿ ਮਨ ਸੁਖਾ ॥
gur kaa sabad jaap man sukhaa |
Chanting the Word of the Guru's Shabad, your mind shall be at peace.
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਰ, ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲੇਗਾ
ਈਹਾ ਊਹਾ ਤੇਰੋ ਊਜਲ ਮੁਖਾ ॥੨॥
eehaa aoohaa tero aoojal mukhaa |2|
Here and hereafter, your face shall be radiant and bright. ||2||
ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਰਖ਼ਰੂ ਹੋਵੇਂਗਾ ॥੨॥
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਥਾਕੇ ਵਡੇ ਵਡੇਰੇ ॥
kar kar thaake vadde vaddere |
Even the greatest of the great worked and worked until they were exhausted.
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਤੈਥੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੋ ਚੁਕੇ ਸਭ ਬੰਦੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਧੰਧੇ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਥੱਕਦੇ ਰਹੇ,
ਕਿਨ ਹੀ ਨ ਕੀਏ ਕਾਜ ਮਾਇਆ ਪੂਰੇ ॥
kin hee na kee kaaj maaeaa poore |
None of them ever accomplished the tasks of Maya.
ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਭੀ ਇਹ ਧੰਧੇ ਸਿਰੇ ਨਾਹ ਚਾੜ੍ਹੇ (ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਨਾਹ ਮੁੱਕੀ)।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
har har naam japai jan koe |
Any humble being who chants the Name of the Lord, Har, Har,
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਆਸਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥
taa kee aasaa pooran hoe |3|
will have all his hopes fulfilled. ||3||
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ) ॥੩॥
ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਨ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥
har bhagatan ko naam adhaar |
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the anchor and support of the Lord's devotees.
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੰਤੀ ਜੀਤਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
santee jeetaa janam apaar |
The Saints are victorious in this priceless human life.
ਤਾਹੀਏਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਜਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
har sant kare soee paravaan |
Whatever the Lord's Saint does, is approved and accepted.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸੰਤ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਜ਼ਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਕਬੂਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੧੧॥੨੨॥

ਸਿੰਚਹਿ ਦਰਬੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਲੋਗ ॥

You gather wealth by exploiting people.
(ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ!) ਤੂੰ ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, (ਅਤੇ ਧਨ ਜੋੜਨ ਦੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਵਿਚ) ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਤੇਰੈ ਕਾਜਿ ਨ ਅਵਰਾ ਜੋਗ ॥
terai kaaj na avaraa jog |
It is of no use to you it was meant for others.
(ਮੌਤ ਆਉਣ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਧਨ) ਤੇਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਵੇਗਾ, ਹੋਰਨਾਂ (ਦੇ ਵਰਤਣ) ਜੋਗਾ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਇਗਾ।
ਕਰਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਵਰਤਹਿ ਅੰਧ ॥
kar ahankaar hoe varateh andh |
You practice egotism, and act like a blind man.
(ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਇਸ ਧਨ ਦਾ) ਮਾਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਇਸ ਧਨ ਦੇ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਚ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ (ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਵਰਤਾਰਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਜਮ ਕੀ ਜੇਵੜੀ ਤੂ ਆਗੈ ਬੰਧ ॥੧॥
jam kee jevarree too aagai bandh |1|
In the world hereafter, you shall be tied to the leash of the Messenger of Death. ||1||
(ਜਦੋਂ) ਮੌਤ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ (ਤੇਰੇ ਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਪਈ, ਉਸ ਫਾਹੀ ਵਿਚ) ਬੱਝੇ ਹੋਏ ਨੂੰ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ (ਲੈ ਜਾਣਗੇ, ਤੇ ਧਨ ਇਥੇ ਹੀ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਇਗਾ) ॥੧॥
ਛਾਡਿ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ਤਾਤਿ ਮੂੜੇ ॥
chhaadd viddaanee taat moorre |
Give up your envy of others, you fool!
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਈਰਖਾ ਕਰਨੀ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ।
ਈਹਾ ਬਸਨਾ ਰਾਤਿ ਮੂੜੇ ॥
eehaa basanaa raat moorre |
You only live here for a night, you fool!
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਇਸ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿਚ (ਪੰਛੀਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ) ਰਾਤ-ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਣਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਮਾਤੇ ਤੈ ਉਠਿ ਚਲਨਾ ॥
maaeaa ke maate tai utth chalanaa |
You are intoxicated with Maya, but you must soon arise and depart.
ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋਏ ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! (ਇਥੋਂ ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਚਲੇ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ,
ਰਾਚਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਤੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੁਪਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

You are totally involved in the dream. ||1||Pause||
(ਪਰ) ਤੂੰ (ਇਸ ਜਗਤ-) ਸੁਪਨੇ ਨਾਲ ਰੁੱਝਾ ਪਿਆ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਬਾਲ ਬਿਵਸਥਾ ਬਾਰਿਕੁ ਅੰਧ ॥
baal bivasathaa baarik andh |
In his childhood, the child is blind.
ਬਾਲ ਉਮਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝ ਬਾਲਕ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਭਰਿ ਜੋਬਨਿ ਲਾਗਾ ਦੁਰਗੰਧ ॥
bhar joban laagaa duragandh |
In the fullness of youth, he is involved in foul-smelling sins.
ਭਰ-ਜਵਾਨੀ ਵੇਲੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
