Raamkalee, Fifth Mehl:
ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿ ਏਕ ਧੁਨਿ ਏਕੈ ਏਕੈ ਰਾਗੁ ਅਲਾਪੈ ॥
oankaar ek dhun ekai ekai raag alaapai |
He sings the song of the One Universal Creator he sings the tune of the One Lord.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਰਾਸ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਵਿਚ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਏਕਾ ਦੇਸੀ ਏਕੁ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਏਕੋ ਰਹਿਆ ਬਿਆਪੈ ॥
ekaa desee ek dikhaavai eko rahiaa biaapai |
He lives in the land of the One Lord, shows the way to the One Lord, and remains attuned to the One Lord.
ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਰਾਸਧਾਰੀਏ ਨੂੰ) ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਏਕਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਏਕਾ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਏਕੋ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜਾਪੈ ॥੧॥
ekaa surat ekaa hee sevaa eko gur te jaapai |1|
He centers his consciousness on the One Lord, and serves only the One Lord, who is known through the Guru. ||1||
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ (ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਲੈ ਕੇ) ਉਹ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਭਲੋ ਭਲੋ ਰੇ ਕੀਰਤਨੀਆ ॥
bhalo bhalo re keerataneea |
Blessed and good is such a kirtanee, who sings such Praises.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹੀ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਗਾ ਰਾਸਧਾਰੀਆ,
ਰਾਮ ਰਮਾ ਰਾਮਾ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਉ ॥
raam ramaa raamaa gun gaau |
He sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord,
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਛੋਡਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਧੰਧ ਸੁਆਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
chhodd maaeaa ke dhandh suaau |1| rahaau |
and renounces the entanglements and pursuits of Maya. ||1||Pause||
ਅਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਧੰਧੇ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਗ਼ਰਜ਼ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਪੰਚ ਬਜਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਰੇ ਸੰਤੋਖਾ ਸਾਤ ਸੁਰਾ ਲੈ ਚਾਲੈ ॥
panch bajitr kare santokhaa saat suraa lai chaalai |
He makes the five virtues, like contentment, his musical instruments, and plays the seven notes of the love of the Lord.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਦਾ ਰਾਸਧਾਰੀਆ ਸਤ) ਸੰਤੋਖ (ਆਦਿਕ ਗੁਣਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜ (ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ) ਸਾਜ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਤ-ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-ਇਹੀ ਉਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਸਾ, ਰੇ ਆਦਿਕ) ਸੱਤ ਸੁਰਾਂ (ਦਾ ਆਲਾਪ ਹੈ)।
ਬਾਜਾ ਮਾਣੁ ਤਾਣੁ ਤਜਿ ਤਾਨਾ ਪਾਉ ਨ ਬੀਗਾ ਘਾਲੈ ॥
baajaa maan taan taj taanaa paau na beegaa ghaalai |
The notes he plays are the renunciation of pride and power his feet keep the beat on the straight path.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਦਾ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਤਿਆਗਦਾ ਹੈ-ਇਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਵਾਜਾ (ਵਜਾਣਾ) ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੰਦੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਪੈਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਧਰਦਾ-ਇਹੀ ਉਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਤਾਨ-ਪਲਟਾ (ਆਲਾਪ) ਹੈ।
ਫੇਰੀ ਫੇਰੁ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਬ ਹੀ ਏਕੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੰਧਿ ਪਾਲੈ ॥੨॥
feree fer na hovai kab hee ek sabad bandh paalai |2|
He does not enter the cycle of reincarnation ever again he keeps the One Word of the Shabad tied to the hem of his robe. ||2||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੱਲੇ ਬੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਕਦੇ ਜਨਮ-ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ-ਇਹੀ (ਰਾਸ ਪਾਣ ਵੇਲੇ) ਉਸ ਦੀ ਨਾਚ-ਭੁਆਂਟਣੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਨਾਰਦੀ ਨਰਹਰ ਜਾਣਿ ਹਦੂਰੇ ॥
naaradee narahar jaan hadoore |
To play like Naarad, is to know that the Lord is ever-present.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਦਾ ਰਾਸਧਾਰੀਆ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ (ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ) ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ-ਇਹ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਨਾਰਦ-ਭਗਤੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਚ।
ਘੂੰਘਰ ਖੜਕੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਵਿਸੂਰੇ ॥
ghoonghar kharrak tiaag visoore |
The tinkling of the ankle bells is the shedding of sorrows and worries.
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਉਹ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ) ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਝੋਰੇ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ-ਇਹ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਲਈ ਘੂੰਘਰੂਆਂ ਦੀ ਛਣਕਾਰ।
ਸਹਜ ਅਨੰਦ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
sehaj anand dikhaavai bhaavai |
The dramatic gestures of acting are celestial bliss.
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਦਾ ਰਾਸਧਾਰੀਆ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਮਾਨੋ, ਉਹ) ਨਿਰਤਕਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਕਲੋਲ ਵਿਖਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਏਹੁ ਨਿਰਤਿਕਾਰੀ ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥੩॥
ehu niratikaaree janam na aavai |3|
Such a dancer is not reincarnated again. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਨਿਰਤਕਾਰੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ ॥੩॥
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਅਪਨੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
je ko apane tthaakur bhaavai |
If anyone, out of millions of people, becomes pleasing to his Lord and Master,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧਿ ਏਹੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
kott madh ehu keeratan gaavai |
He sings the Lord's Praises in this way.
ਤਾਂ ਉਹ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ) ਇਹ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੀ ਜਾਵਉ ਟੇਕ ॥
saadhasangat kee jaavau ttek |
I have taken the Support of the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਸਰਨੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਏਕ ॥੪॥੮॥
kahu naanak tis keeratan ek |4|8|
Says Nanak, the Kirtan of the One Lord's Praises are sung there. ||4||8||
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨੂੰ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਹੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ) ਇਕੋ ਇਕ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੮॥

ਕੋਈ ਬੋਲੈ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਕੋਈ ਖੁਦਾਇ ॥
koee bolai raam raam koee khudaae |
Some call Him, 'Raam, Raam', and some call Him, 'Khudaa-i'.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) 'ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ' ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ 'ਖ਼ੁਦਾਇ, ਖ਼ੁਦਾਇ' ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੋਈ ਸੇਵੈ ਗੁਸਈਆ ਕੋਈ ਅਲਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
koee sevai guseea koee alaeh |1|
Some serve Him as 'Gusain', others as 'Allaah'. ||1||
ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ 'ਗੋਸਾਈਂ' ਆਖ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ 'ਅੱਲਾ' ਆਖ ਕੇ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਕਾਰਣ ਕਰਣ ਕਰੀਮ ॥

He is the Cause of causes, the Generous Lord.
ਹੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ! ਹੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿੰਦ!
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਹੀਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

He showers His Grace and Mercy upon us. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ! ਹੇ ਰਹਿਮ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਖ ਵਖ ਨਾਮ ਰੱਖੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਸਾਂਝਾ ਹੈਂ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕੋਈ ਨਾਵੈ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਕੋਈ ਹਜ ਜਾਇ ॥
koee naavai teerath koee haj jaae |
Some bathe at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, and some make the pilgrimage to Mecca.|
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਿਸੇ ਤੀਰਥ ਉਤੇ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮੱਕੇ) ਹੱਜ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੋਈ ਕਰੈ ਪੂਜਾ ਕੋਈ ਸਿਰੁ ਨਿਵਾਇ ॥੨॥
koee karai poojaa koee sir nivaae |2|
Some perform devotional worship services, and some bow their heads in prayer. ||2||
ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮੂਰਤੀ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ) ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਨਮਾਜ਼ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਕੋਈ ਪੜੈ ਬੇਦ ਕੋਈ ਕਤੇਬ ॥
koee parrai bed koee kateb |
Some read the Vedas, and some the Koran.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕੋਈ (ਹਿੰਦੂ) ਵੇਦ ਆਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ (ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਆਦਿਕ) ਕੁਰਾਨ ਅੰਜੀਲ ਆਦਿਕ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੋਈ ਓਢੈ ਨੀਲ ਕੋਈ ਸੁਪੇਦ ॥੩॥
koee odtai neel koee suped |3|
Some wear blue robes, and some wear white. ||3||
ਕੋਈ (ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਨੀਲੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਪਹਿਨਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ (ਹਿੰਦੂ) ਚਿੱਟੇ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਕੋਈ ਕਹੈ ਤੁਰਕੁ ਕੋਈ ਕਹੈ ਹਿੰਦੂ ॥
koee kahai turak koee kahai hindoo |
Some call themselves Muslim, and some call themselves Hindu.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ 'ਮੈਂ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਹਾਂ', ਕੋਈ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ 'ਮੈਂ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਹਾਂ'।
ਕੋਈ ਬਾਛੈ ਭਿਸਤੁ ਕੋਈ ਸੁਰਗਿੰਦੂ ॥੪॥
koee baachhai bhisat koee suragindoo |4|
Some yearn for paradise, and others long for heaven. ||4||
ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਬਹਿਸ਼ਤ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਸੁਰਗ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
kahu naanak jin hukam pachhaataa |
Says Nanak, one who realizes the Hukam of God's Will,
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕਾ ਤਿਨਿ ਭੇਦੁ ਜਾਤਾ ॥੫॥੯॥
prabh saahib kaa tin bhed jaataa |5|9|
knows the secrets of his Lord and Master. ||5||9||
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਭੇਤ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਕਰ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੫॥੯॥

ਪਵਨੈ ਮਹਿ ਪਵਨੁ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥
pavanai meh pavan samaaeaa |
The wind merges into the wind.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਇਹ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੰਜ-ਤੱਤੀ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਸੁਆਸ ਹਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜੋਤੀ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਰਲਿ ਜਾਇਆ ॥
jotee meh jot ral jaaeaa |
The light blends into the light.
ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ (ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ) ਜੋਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਜਾ ਰਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਾਟੀ ਮਾਟੀ ਹੋਈ ਏਕ ॥
maattee maattee hoee ek |
The dust becomes one with the dust.
(ਸਰੀਰ ਦੀ) ਮਿੱਟੀ (ਧਰਤੀ ਦੀ) ਮਿੱਟੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਰੋਵਨਹਾਰੇ ਕੀ ਕਵਨ ਟੇਕ ॥੧॥
rovanahaare kee kavan ttek |1|
What support is there for the one who is lamenting? ||1||
(ਮੁਏ ਨੂੰ) ਰੋਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਭੁਲੇਖੇ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੀ ਰੋਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਕਉਨੁ ਮੂਆ ਰੇ ਕਉਨੁ ਮੂਆ ॥
kaun mooaa re kaun mooaa |
Who has died? O, who has died?
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚ) ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਮਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਇਹ ਪੱਕੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ।
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ਇਹੁ ਤਉ ਚਲਤੁ ਭਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
braham giaanee mil karahu beechaaraa ihu tau chalat bheaa |1| rahaau |
O God-realized beings, meet together and consider this. What a wondrous thing has happened! ||1||Pause||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਕੋਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਬੇ-ਸ਼ੱਕ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰ ਲਵੋ, (ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਤਾਂ) ਇਹ ਇਕ ਖੇਡ ਬਣੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅਗਲੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਖਬਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
agalee kichh khabar na paaee |
No one knows what happens after death.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰਕ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਤੇ ਰੋਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ) ਅਗਾਂਹ (ਸਦਾ) ਬੀਤਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ,
ਰੋਵਨਹਾਰੁ ਭਿ ਊਠਿ ਸਿਧਾਈ ॥
rovanahaar bhi aootth sidhaaee |
The one who is lamenting will also arise and depart.
ਕਿ ਜੇਹੜਾ (ਹੁਣ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਤੇ) ਰੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਉਸ ਨੇ ਭੀ ਇਥੋਂ ਕੂਚ ਕਰ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਕੇ ਬਾਂਧੇ ਬੰਧ ॥
bharam moh ke baandhe bandh |
Mortal beings are bound by the bonds of doubt and attachment.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਭਰਮ ਅਤੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਬੱਝੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ,
ਸੁਪਨੁ ਭਇਆ ਭਖਲਾਏ ਅੰਧ ॥੨॥
supan bheaa bhakhalaae andh |2|
When life becomes a dream, the blind man babbles and grieves in vain. ||2||
(ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਤਾਂ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਸੁਪਨਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਬੀਤ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਜੀਵ (ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੀ) ਬਰੜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਇਹੁ ਤਉ ਰਚਨੁ ਰਚਿਆ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥
eihu tau rachan rachiaa karataar |
The Creator Lord created this creation.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਤਾਂ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਖੇਡ ਰਚੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
ਆਵਤ ਜਾਵਤ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਅਪਾਰਿ ॥
aavat jaavat hukam apaar |
It comes and goes, subject to the Will of the Infinite Lord.
ਉਸ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੇ ਕਦੇ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਇਥੇ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਇਥੋਂ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਹ ਕੋ ਮੂਆ ਨ ਮਰਣੈ ਜੋਗੁ ॥
neh ko mooaa na maranai jog |
No one dies no one is capable of dying.
ਉਂਞ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਕਦੇ ਮਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਹ ਮਰਨ-ਜੋਗਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਨਹ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਹੋਗੁ ॥੩॥
neh binasai abinaasee hog |3|
The soul does not perish it is imperishable. ||3||
ਇਹ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਇਸ ਦਾ ਅਸਲਾ ਜੁ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੀ ਹੋਇਆ ॥੩॥
ਜੋ ਇਹੁ ਜਾਣਹੁ ਸੋ ਇਹੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
jo ihu jaanahu so ihu naeh |
That which is known, does not exist.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੁਸੀ ਇਸ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਸਮਝ ਰਹੇ ਹੋ, ਇਹ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਜਾਨਣਹਾਰੇ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
jaananahaare kau bal jaau |
I am a sacrifice to the one who knows this.
ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਸਮਝ ਲਈ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
kahu naanak gur bharam chukaaeaa |
Says Nanak, the Guru has dispelled my doubt.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਭੁਲੇਖਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੧੦॥
naa koee marai na aavai jaaeaa |4|10|
No one dies no one comes or goes. ||4||10||
ਉਹ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਮਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ॥੪॥੧੦॥

ਜਪਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਲਾਲੁ ॥

Meditate on the Lord of the Universe, the Beloved Lord of the World.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੋਬਿੰਦ (ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ, ਸੋਹਣੇ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ।
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਤੂ ਜੀਵਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਨ ਖਾਈ ਮਹਾ ਕਾਲੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raam naam simar too jeeveh fir na khaaee mahaa kaal |1| rahaau |
Meditating in remembrance on the Lord's Name, you shall live, and the Great Death shall not consume you ever again. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ, (ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰੇਂਗਾ) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਰਹੇਗਾ। ਭਿਆਨਕ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ (ਤੇਰੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ) ਫਿਰ ਕਦੇ ਮੁਕਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕੇਗੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕੋਟਿ ਜਨਮ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਆਇਓ ॥
kott janam bhram bhram bhram aaeo |
Through millions of incarnations, you have come, wandering, wandering, wandering.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ) ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕ ਕੇ (ਹੁਣ ਤੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ) ਆਇਆ ਹੈਂ,
