ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੋ ਸਿਰੁ ਲੇਖੈ ਲਾਇ ॥
satigur seve aapanaa so sir lekhai laae |
Those who serve their True Guru are certified and accepted.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਿਰ (ਭਾਵ, ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ) ਸਫਲਾ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ਕੈ ਰਹਨਿ ਸਚਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
vichahu aap gavaae kai rehan sach liv laae |
They eradicate selfishness and conceit from within they remain lovingly absorbed in the True One.
ਅਜੇਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਬਿਰਤੀ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਓ ਤਿਨਾ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
satigur jinee na sevio tinaa birathaa janam gavaae |
Those who do not serve the True Guru waste away their lives in vain.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਵਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
naanak jo tis bhaavai so kare kahanaa kichhoo na jaae |1|
O Nanak, the Lord does just as He pleases. No one has any say in this. ||1||
(ਪਰ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ) ਕੁਝ (ਚੰਗਾ ਮੰਦਾ) ਆਖਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਜੋ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥

Third Mehl:
ਮਨੁ ਵੇਕਾਰੀ ਵੇੜਿਆ ਵੇਕਾਰਾ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
man vekaaree verriaa vekaaraa karam kamaae |
With the mind encircled by wickedness and evil, people do evil deeds.
(ਇਹ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਦਾ ਤਰੀਕਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਰਮ (ਹੀ) ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਪੂਜਦੇ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥
doojai bhaae agiaanee poojade daragah milai sajaae |
The ignorant worship the love of duality in the Lord's Court they shall be punished.
(ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ (ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਇਸ ਪੂਜਾ ਦਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਲਾਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ) ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਸਜ਼ਾ (ਹੀ) ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਆਤਮ ਦੇਉ ਪੂਜੀਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
aatam deo poojeeai bin satigur boojh na paae |
So worship the Lord, the Light of the soul without the True Guru, understanding is not obtained.
ਆਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਚਾਨਣ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ।
ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਭਾਣਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਕਾ ਕਰਮੀ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥
jap tap sanjam bhaanaa satiguroo kaa karamee palai paae |
Meditation, penance and austere self-discipline are found by surrendering to the True Guru's Will. By His Grace this is received.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਭਾਣਾ (ਮੰਨਣਾ)-ਇਹੀ ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਤੇ ਸੰਜਮ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ (ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨਣ ਦੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਵਣੀ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥
naanak sevaa surat kamaavanee jo har bhaavai so thaae paae |2|
O Nanak, serve with this intuitive awareness only that which is pleasing to the Lord is approved. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਉਂਞ ਤਾਂ) ਜੋ ਸੇਵਾ ਹਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਲੱਗੇ ਉਹੀ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ) ਸੇਵਾ ਭੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਸੁਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾ ਕੇ ਹੀ) ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

har har naam japahu man mere jit sadaa sukh hovai din raatee |
Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O my mind it will bring you eternal peace, day and night.
ਹੇ ਮਰੇ ਮਨ! ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ, ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਰਾਤ ਦਿਨ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖ ਹੋਵੇ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸਭਿ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਪਾਪ ਲਹਾਤੀ ॥
har har naam japahu man mere jit simarat sabh kilavikh paap lahaatee |
Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O my mind meditating on it, all sins and misdeeds shall be erased.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਹਰੀ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਭ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਜਿਤੁ ਦਾਲਦੁ ਦੁਖ ਭੁਖ ਸਭ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਤੀ ॥
har har naam japahu man mere jit daalad dukh bhukh sabh leh jaatee |
Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O my mind through it, all poverty, pain and hunger shall be removed.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਹਰੀ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਭ ਦਰਿਦ੍ਰ ਦੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਭੁੱਖਾਂ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਣ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗਾਤੀ ॥
har har naam japahu man mere mukh guramukh preet lagaatee |
Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O my mind as Gurmukh, declare your love.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਹਰੀ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ, (ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ (ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਉੱਤਮ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ (ਭਾਵ, ਹਰੀ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ) ਬਣ ਜਾਏ।
ਜਿਤੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਭਾਗੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਹਰਿ ਤਿਤੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਤੀ ॥੧੩॥
jit mukh bhaag likhiaa dhur saachai har tith mukh naam japaatee |13|
One who has such pre-ordained destiny inscribed upon his forehead by the True Lord, chants the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||13||
ਧੁਰ ਸੱਚੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਜਿਸ ਮੂੰਹ ਤੇ ਭਾਗ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਮੂੰਹ ਤੋਂ (ਹੀ) ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੩॥

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਓ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਕੀਤੋ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

Those who do not serve the True Guru, and who do not contemplate the Word of the Shabad
(ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਲੱਭ ਕੇ) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਹਰੀ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ,
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਮਿਰਤਕੁ ਹੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥
antar giaan na aaeo miratak hai sansaar |
-spiritual wisdom does not enter into their hearts they are like dead bodies in the world.
(ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੱਚਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਇਆ, ਉਹ ਜੀਵ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ (ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਭੀ) ਮੋਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਫੇਰੁ ਪਇਆ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥
lakh chauraaseeh fer peaa mar jamai hoe khuaar |
They go through the cycle of 8.4 million reincarnations, and they are ruined through death and rebirth.
(ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਜੂਨਾਂ) ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੱਕਰ ਕੱਟਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਮਰਦਾ ਤੇ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਸੋਇ ॥
satigur kee sevaa so kare jis no aap karaae soe |
He alone serves the True Guru, whom the Lord Himself inspires to do so.
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਕਰਾਏ, ਉਹੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਿਚਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
satigur vich naam nidhaan hai karam paraapat hoe |
The Treasure of the Naam is within the True Guru by His Grace, it is obtained.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ 'ਨਾਮ' ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਗੁਰਸਬਦ ਸਿਉ ਤਿਨ ਸਚੀ ਸਦਾ ਲਿਵ ਹੋਇ ॥
sach rate gurasabad siau tin sachee sadaa liv hoe |
Those who are truly attuned to the Word of the Guru's Shabad-their love is forever True.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਿਰਤੀ ਸਦਾ ਇਕ ਤਾਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਮੇਲੇ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
naanak jis no mele na vichhurrai sehaj samaavai soe |1|
O Nanak, those who are united with Him shall not be separated again. They merge imperceptibly into God. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ (ਇਕ ਵਾਰੀ) ਮੇਲ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਕਦੇ) ਵਿਛੁੜਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਅਡੋਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥

Third Mehl:
ਸੋ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਜੋੁ ਭਗਵੰਤੈ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
so bhgautee juo bhagavantai jaanai |
One who knows the Benevolent Lord God is the true devotee of Bhagaautee.
ਭਗਉਤੀ (ਸੱਚਾ ਭਗਤ) ਉਹ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ),
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥
gur parasaadee aap pachhaanai |
By Guru's Grace, he is self-realized.
ਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਲੈ ਕੇ) ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਧਾਵਤੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਇਕਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਆਣੈ ॥
dhaavat raakhai ikat ghar aanai |
He restrains his wandering mind, and brings it back to its own home within the self.
(ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਲ) ਦੌੜਦੇ (ਮਨ) ਨੂੰ ਸਾਂਭ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਤੇ ਲਿਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥
jeevat marai har naam vakhaanai |
He remains dead while yet alive, and he chants the Name of the Lord.
ਅਤੇ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ) ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਚਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਲੋਂ ਤੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ) ਹਰੀ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਐਸਾ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਉਤਮੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
aisaa bhgautee utam hoe |
Such a Bhagaautee is most exalted.
ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਭਗਉਤੀ (ਭਗਤ) ਉੱਤਮ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥
naanak sach samaavai soe |2|
O Nanak, he merges into the True One. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿੱਛੁੜਦਾ ॥੨॥

Third Mehl:
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਕਹਾਏ ॥
antar kapatt bhgautee kahaae |
He is full of deceit, and yet he calls himself a devotee of Bhagaautee.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਖੋਟ ਰੱਖੇ (ਪਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ) ਭਗਉਤੀ (ਸੱਚਾ ਭਗਤ) ਅਖਵਾਏ,
ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
paakhandd paarabraham kade na paae |
Through hypocrisy, he shall never attain the Supreme Lord God.
ਉਹ (ਇਸ) ਪਖੰਡ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰੇ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਲੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
par nindaa kare antar mal laae |
He slanders others, and pollutes himself with his own filth.
(ਜੀਵ) ਪਰਾਈ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਲ ਲਾਈ ਜਾਵੇ,
ਬਾਹਰਿ ਮਲੁ ਧੋਵੈ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਜੂਠਿ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥
baahar mal dhovai man kee jootth na jaae |
Outwardly, he washes off the filth, but the impurity of his mind does not go away.
(ਤੇ) ਬਾਹਰੋਂ (ਸਰੀਰ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ (ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਆਦਿਕ ਨਾਲ) ਧੋਂਦਾ ਰਹੇ, (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਮਨ ਦੀ ਜੂਠ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਬਾਦੁ ਰਚਾਏ ॥
satasangat siau baad rachaae |
He argues with the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਝਗੜਾ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਤ ਸੰਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ)
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਦੁਖੀਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਰਚਾਏ ॥
anadin dukheea doojai bhaae rachaae |
Night and day, he suffers, engrossed in the love of duality.
ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤੈ ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਏ ॥

He does not remember the Name of the Lord, but still, he performs all sorts of empty rituals.
ਹਰੀ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਹੋਰ ਬਥੇਰੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਾਂਡ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੇ.
ਪੂਰਬ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਮੇਟਣਾ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥
poorab likhiaa su mettanaa na jaae |
That which is pre-ordained cannot be erased.
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਪਹਿਲਾਂ (ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਜੋ ਮਨ ਤੇ) ਲਿਖੇ ਗਏ (ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਭਵਾਉਂਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ) ਮਿਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਮੋਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥੩॥

O Nanak, without serving the True Guru, liberation is not obtained. ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਸੱਚ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ਹੋ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੩॥

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਸੇ ਕੜਿ ਨ ਸਵਾਹੀ ॥
satigur jinee dhiaaeaa se karr na savaahee |
Those who meditate on the True Guru shall not be burnt to ashes.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਨਿੱਤ ਨਵੇਂ ਸੂਰਜ ਦੁਖੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਸੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਹੀ ॥
satigur jinee dhiaaeaa se tripat aghaahee |
Those who meditate on the True Guru are satisfied and fulfilled.
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਪੂਰਨ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਰੱਜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਤਿਨ ਜਮ ਡਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
satigur jinee dhiaaeaa tin jam ddar naahee |
Those who meditate on the True Guru are not afraid of the Messenger of Death.
(ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ), ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਭੀ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
