ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥
jeh dekhaa teh rahiaa samaae |3|
Wherever I look, there I see Him pervading. ||3||
ਫਿਰ ਮੈਂ ਜਿਧਰ ਜਿਧਰ ਵੇਖਾਂ ਉਧਰ ਉਧਰ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਦਿੱਸ ਪਏ ॥੩॥
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਹਸਾ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੈਣੀ ਲਾਗਸਿ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
antar sahasaa baahar maaeaa nainee laagas baanee |
There is doubt within me, and Maya is outside it hits me in the eyes like an arrow.
ਹੇ ਜੀਵ! ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬਾਹਰਲੀ (ਦਿੱਸਦੀ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਖਿੱਚ ਪਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ,
ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸਾ ਪਰਤਾਪਹਿਗਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ॥੪॥੨॥
pranavat naanak daasan daasaa parataapahigaa praanee |4|2|
Prays Nanak, the slave of the Lord's slaves: such a mortal suffers terribly. ||4||2||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-(ਉਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ) ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਹਮ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੇਗਾ ਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੀ ਰਹੇਂਗਾ ॥੪॥੨॥

ਜਿਤੁ ਦਰਿ ਵਸਹਿ ਕਵਨੁ ਦਰੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਦਰਾ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਦਰੁ ਕਵਨੁ ਲਹੈ ॥
jit dar vaseh kavan dar kaheeai daraa bheetar dar kavan lahai |
Where is that door, where You live, O Lord? What is that door called? Among all doors, who can find that door?
(ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜਿਸ ਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਉਹ ਥਾਂ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ, (ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦੀ), ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਗੁਪਤ ਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਦਰ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਫਿਰਾ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਸੋ ਦਰੁ ਕੋਈ ਆਇ ਕਹੈ ॥੧॥
jis dar kaaran firaa udaasee so dar koee aae kahai |1|
For the sake of that door, I wander around sadly, detached from the world if only someone would come and tell me about that door. ||1||
(ਜਿਥੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਥਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਮੈਂ (ਚਿਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, (ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਲੋਚਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਕੋਈ (ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ) ਆ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਥਾਂ ਦੱਸੇ ॥੧॥
ਕਿਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰੀਐ ॥

How can I cross over the world-ocean?
(ਸਾਡੇ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿੱਥ ਪਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੀਵਤਿਆ ਨਹ ਮਰੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

While I am living, I cannot be dead. ||1||Pause||
ਜਦ ਤਕ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਨ ਲੰਘੀਏ, ਤਦ ਤਕ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ) ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਕਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਲੰਘੀਏ? ਜੀਊਂਦਿਆਂ ਮਰਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ (ਤੇ, ਜਦ ਤਕ ਜੀਊਂਦੇ ਮਰੀਏ ਨਾਹ, ਤਦ ਤਕ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤਰਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਦੁਖੁ ਦਰਵਾਜਾ ਰੋਹੁ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ਆਸਾ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ਦੁਇ ਪਟ ਜੜੇ ॥
dukh daravaajaa rohu rakhavaalaa aasaa andesaa due patt jarre |
Pain is the door, and anger is the guard hope and anxiety are the two shutters.
ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਹਿਜ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦੇ ਆਸਣ ਉਤੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਐਸੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ) ਬੈਠਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਬਾਹਰ) ਦੁੱਖ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ, ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਰਾਖਾ ਹੈ, ਆਸਾ ਤੇ ਸਹਿਮ (ਉਸ ਦੁੱਖ-ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ੇ ਨੂੰ) ਦੋ ਭਿੱਤ ਲੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
ਮਾਇਆ ਜਲੁ ਖਾਈ ਪਾਣੀ ਘਰੁ ਬਾਧਿਆ ਸਤ ਕੈ ਆਸਣਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਰਹੈ ॥੨॥
maaeaa jal khaaee paanee ghar baadhiaa sat kai aasan purakh rahai |2|
Maya is the water in the moat in the middle of this moat, he has built his home. The Primal Lord sits in the Seat of Truth. ||2||
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਖਾਈ (ਪੁੱਟੀ ਹੋਈ) ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ) ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ (ਹਿਰਦਾ-) ਘਰ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਕਿੰਤੇ ਨਾਮਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਤੁਮ ਸਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਅਵਰੁ ਹਰੇ ॥
kinte naamaa ant na jaaniaa tum sar naahee avar hare |
You have so many Names, Lord, I do not know their limit. There is no other equal to You.
(ਇਕ ਪਾਸੇ ਜੀਵ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਘਿਰੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ, ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਭਾਵੇਂ) ਤੇਰੇ ਕਈ ਨਾਮ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੇਰੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਊਚਾ ਨਹੀ ਕਹਣਾ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਣਾ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ॥੩॥
aoochaa nahee kahanaa man meh rahanaa aape jaanai aap kare |3|
Do not speak out loud - remain in your mind. The Lord Himself knows, and He Himself acts. ||3||
(ਮਨ ਦੇ ਅਜੇਹੇ ਭਾਵ) ਉੱਚੀ ਬੋਲ ਕੇ ਦੱਸਣ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ ਹੀ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਸਭ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਭ ਕੁਝ) ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਜਬ ਆਸਾ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਕਹੈ ॥
jab aasaa andesaa tab hee kiau kar ek kahai |
As long as there is hope, there is anxiety so how can anyone speak of the One Lord?
ਜਦ ਤਕ (ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀਆਂ) ਆਸਾਂ ਹਨ, ਤਦ ਤਕ ਸਹਿਮ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਹਨ (ਸਹਿਮਾਂ ਫ਼ਿਕਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ ਇੱਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਆਸਾ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਰਾਸਾ ਤਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੁ ਮਿਲੈ ॥੪॥
aasaa bheetar rahai niraasaa tau naanak ek milai |4|
In the midst of hope, remain untouched by hope then, O Nanak, you shall meet the One Lord. ||4||
ਪਰ ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਸਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ ਆਸਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰੀਐ ॥
ein bidh saagar tareeai |
In this way, you shall cross over the world-ocean.
(ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ, ਬੱਸ!) ਇਹਨਾਂ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜੀਵਤਿਆ ਇਉ ਮਰੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੩॥

This is the way to remain dead while yet alive. ||1||Second Pause||3||

surat sabad saakhee meree singee baajai lok sune |
Awareness of the Shabad and the Teachings is my horn the people hear the sound of its vibrations.
(ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਾਰੇ) ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੀ ਸਦਾਅ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜਨੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਦਾਅ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਾਖਿਆਤ ਵੇਖਣਾ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਮੇਰੀ ਸਿੰਙੀ ਵੱਜ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਪਤੁ ਝੋਲੀ ਮੰਗਣ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ਭੀਖਿਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਪੜੇ ॥੧॥
pat jholee mangan kai taaee bheekhiaa naam parre |1|
Honor is my begging-bowl, and the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the charity I receive. ||1||
(ਉਸ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਭਿੱਛਿਆ) ਮੰਗਣ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਯੋਗ ਪਾਤ੍ਰ ਬਣਾਣਾ ਮੈਂ (ਮੋਢੇ ਉਤੇ) ਝੋਲੀ ਪਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਤਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ-ਭਿੱਛਿਆ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ ॥੧॥
ਬਾਬਾ ਗੋਰਖੁ ਜਾਗੈ ॥
baabaa gorakh jaagai |
O Baba, Gorakh is the Lord of the Universe He is always awake and aware.
ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ! (ਮੈਂ ਭੀ ਗੋਰਖ ਦਾ ਚੇਲਾ ਹਾਂ, ਪਰ ਮੇਰਾ) ਗੋਰਖ (ਸਦਾ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ) ਜਾਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੋਰਖੁ ਸੋ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੋਇ ਉਠਾਲੀ ਕਰਤੇ ਬਾਰ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gorakh so jin goe utthaalee karate baar na laagai |1| rahaau |
He alone is Gorakh, who sustains the earth He created it in an instant. ||1||Pause||
(ਮੇਰਾ) ਗੋਰਖ ਉਹ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਚਿਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਪਾਣੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਪਵਣਿ ਬੰਧਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਚੰਦੁ ਸੂਰਜੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਦੀਏ ॥
paanee praan pavan bandh raakhe chand sooraj mukh dee |
Binding together water and air, He infused the breath of life into the body, and made the lamps of the sun and the moon.
(ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ) ਪਾਣੀ ਪਉਣ (ਆਦਿਕ ਤੱਤਾਂ) ਵਿਚ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਟਿਕਾ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ, ਸੂਰਜ ਤੇ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਮੁਖੀ ਦੀਵੇ ਬਣਾਏ ਹਨ,
ਮਰਣ ਜੀਵਣ ਕਉ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੀਨੀ ਏਤੇ ਗੁਣ ਵਿਸਰੇ ॥੨॥
maran jeevan kau dharatee deenee ete gun visare |2|
To die and to live, He gave us the earth, but we have forgotten these blessings. ||2||
ਵੱਸਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਧਰਤੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਇਤਨੇ ਉਪਕਾਰ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਅਰੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਪੀਰ ਪੁਰਸ ਬਹੁਤੇਰੇ ॥
sidh saadhik ar jogee jangam peer puras bahutere |
There are so many Siddhas, seekers, Yogis, wandering pilgrims, spiritual teachers and good people.
ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੰਗਮ ਜੋਗੀ ਪੀਰ ਜੋਗ-ਸਾਧਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੁੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੋਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਵੇਖਣ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਜੇ ਤਿਨ ਮਿਲਾ ਤ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਆਖਾ ਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਸੇਵ ਕਰੇ ॥੩॥
je tin milaa ta keerat aakhaa taa man sev kare |3|
If I meet them, I chant the Lord's Praises, and then, my mind serves Him. ||3||
ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਜੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਾਂਗਾ ਤਾਂ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੀ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ (ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ-ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨਾ ਇਹੀ ਹੈ) ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਹੀ ਕਰੇਗਾ ॥੩॥
ਕਾਗਦੁ ਲੂਣੁ ਰਹੈ ਘ੍ਰਿਤ ਸੰਗੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਕਮਲੁ ਰਹੈ ॥
kaagad loon rahai ghrit sange paanee kamal rahai |
Paper and salt, protected by ghee, remain untouched by water, as the lotus remains unaffected in water.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਲੂਣ ਘਿਉ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਗਲਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਾਗ਼ਜ਼ ਘਿਉ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਗਲਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੌਲ ਫੁੱਲ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਕੁਮਲਾਂਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ,
ਐਸੇ ਭਗਤ ਮਿਲਹਿ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਜਮੁ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੈ ॥੪॥੪॥
aise bhagat mileh jan naanak tin jam kiaa karai |4|4|
Those who meet with such devotees, O servant Nanak - what can death do to them? ||4||4||
ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ, ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਭਗਤ ਜਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਮ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੁਝ ਵਿਗਾੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੪॥੪॥

ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਮਾਛਿੰਦ੍ਰ! ਸੁਣ।
ਵਸਗਤਿ ਪੰਚ ਕਰੇ ਨਹ ਡੋਲੈ ॥
vasagat panch kare neh ddolai |
One who subdues the five passions does not waver.
(ਅਸਲ ਵਿਰਕਤ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਪੰਜੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਰੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ) ਉਹ ਕਦੇ ਡੋਲਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਐਸੀ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਜੋਗ ਕਉ ਪਾਲੇ ॥
aisee jugat jog kau paale |
One who practices Yoga in such a way,
ਉਹ ਵਿਰਕਤ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜੋਗ-ਸਾਧਨ।
ਆਪਿ ਤਰੈ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਲ ਤਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
aap tarai sagale kul taare |1|
saves himself, and saves all his generations. ||1||
(ਇਸ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ) ਆਪ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕੁਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸੋ ਅਉਧੂਤੁ ਐਸੀ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
so aaudhoot aisee mat paavai |
He alone is a hermit, who attains such understanding.
(ਹੇ ਮਾਛਿੰਦ੍ਰ! ਅਸਲ) ਵਿਰਕਤ ਉਹ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਜੇਹੀ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਸੁੰਨਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ahinis sun samaadh samaavai |1| rahaau |
Day and night, he remains absorbed in deepest Samaadhi. ||1||Pause||
ਕਿ ਉਹ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਐਸੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਟਿਕਾਉ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਥੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਫੁਰਨਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਸੁੰਞ ਹੀ ਸੁੰਞ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਭਿਖਿਆ ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਭੈ ਚਲੈ ॥
bhikhiaa bhaae bhagat bhai chalai |
He begs for loving devotion to the Lord, and lives in the Fear of God.
(ਹੇ ਮਾਛਿੰਦ੍ਰ! ਅਸਲ ਵਿਰਕਤ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਅਤੇ ਡਰ-ਅਦਬ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਤੀਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਭਿੱਛਿਆ (ਜੋ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਸੰਤੋਖਿ ਅਮੁਲੈ ॥
hovai su tripat santokh amulai |
He is satisfied, with the priceless gift of contentment.
ਇਸ ਭਿੱਛਿਆ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ) ਉਸ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਰੱਜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪਦੀ)।
ਧਿਆਨ ਰੂਪਿ ਹੋਇ ਆਸਣੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
dhiaan roop hoe aasan paavai |
Becoming the embodiment of meditation, he attains the true Yogic posture.
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਤੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਵਿਰਕਤ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਇੱਕ-ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਲਿਵ-ਲੀਨਤਾ ਦਾ ਉਹ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਆਸਣ ਵਿਛਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਤਾੜੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
sach naam taarree chit laavai |2|
He focuses his consciousness in the deep trance of the True Name. ||2||
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ (ਉਸ ਵਿਰਕਤ ਦੀ) ਤਾੜੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
naanak bolai amrit baanee |
Nanak chants the Ambrosial Bani.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-
ਸੁਣਿ ਮਾਛਿੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਅਉਧੂ ਨੀਸਾਣੀ ॥
sun maachhindraa aaudhoo neesaanee |
Listen, O Machhindra: this is the insignia of the true hermit.
ਹੇ ਮਾਛਿੰਦ੍ਰ! ਸੁਣ। ਵਿਰਕਤ ਦੇ ਲੱਛਣ ਇਹ ਹਨ ਕਿ
ਆਸਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਰਾਸੁ ਵਲਾਏ ॥
aasaa maeh niraas valaae |
One who, in the midst of hope, remains untouched by hope,
(ਅਸਲੀ ਵਿਰਕਤ) ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਆਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਭੀ ਆਸਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਜੀਵਨ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਿਹਚਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਤੇ ਪਾਏ ॥੩॥
nihchau naanak karate paae |3|
shall truly find the Creator Lord. ||3||
ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਯਕੀਨੀ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਅਗਮੁ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥
pranavat naanak agam sunaae |
Prays Nanak, I share the mysterious secrets of God.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-(ਹੇ ਮਾਛਿੰਦ੍ਰ! ਅਸਲ ਵਿਰਕਤ) ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਆਪ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਚੇਲੇ ਕੀ ਸੰਧਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
gur chele kee sandh milaae |
The Guru and His disciple are joined together!
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਅਸਲ ਵਿਰਕਤ) ਗੁਰੂ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੀਖਿਆ ਦਾਰੂ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਖਾਇ ॥
deekhiaa daaroo bhojan khaae |
One who eats this food, this medicine of the Teachings,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੀ ਦਵਾਈ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜੋ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਰੋਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਲਾਜ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ)।
