ਮਨ ਕਠੋਰੁ ਅਜਹੂ ਨ ਪਤੀਨਾ ॥
man katthor ajahoo na pateenaa |
Even then, his hardened mind was not satisfied.
ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦੀ (ਫਿਰ ਭੀ) ਤਸੱਲੀ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ) ਮਨ ਦਾ ਕਠੋਰ ਸੀ।
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਹਮਰਾ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ॥

Says Kabeer, such is my Lord and Master.
ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-(ਕਾਜ਼ੀ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਨਾਹ ਆਈ ਕਿ) ਸਾਡਾ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਖਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੈ,
ਚਉਥੇ ਪਦ ਮਹਿ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਜਿੰਦੁ ॥੪॥੧॥੪॥

The soul of His humble servant dwells in the fourth state. ||4||1||4||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ, ਜੋ ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਉਤਾਂਹ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਡਰਾ ਧਮਕਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ) ॥੪॥੧॥੪॥

ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਮਾਨਸੁ ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਦੇਉ ॥

It is not human, and it is not a god.
(ਕੀਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ, ਕੀਹ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਕੀਹ ਜਤੀ, ਤੇ ਕੀਹ ਸ਼ਿਵ-ਉਪਾਸ਼ਕ ਕੀਹ ਜੋਗੀ, ਤੇ ਕੀਹ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਵਿਚ ਇੱਕ ਉਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ) ਨਾਹ ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਦੇਵਤਾ
ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਜਤੀ ਕਹਾਵੈ ਸੇਉ ॥
naa ihu jatee kahaavai seo |
It is not called celibate, or a worshipper of Shiva.
ਨਾਹ ਜਤੀ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਸ਼ਿਵ-ਉਪਾਸ਼ਕ,
ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਨਾ ਅਵਧੂਤਾ ॥
naa ihu jogee naa avadhootaa |
It is not a Yogi, and it is not a hermit.
ਨਾਹ ਜੋਗੀ ਹੈ, ਨਾਹ ਤਿਆਗੀ
ਨਾ ਇਸੁ ਮਾਇ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਪੂਤਾ ॥੧॥
naa is maae na kaahoo pootaa |1|
It is not a mother, or anyone's son. ||1||
ਨਾਹ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਮਾਂ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਇਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ॥੧॥
ਇਆ ਮੰਦਰ ਮਹਿ ਕੌਨ ਬਸਾਈ ॥
eaa mandar meh kauan basaaee |
Then what is it, which dwells in this temple of the body?
(ਸਾਡੇ) ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ-ਰੂਪ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਕੌਣ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ? ਉਸ ਦਾ ਕੀਹ ਅਸਲਾ ਹੈ?
ਤਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

No one can find its limits. ||1||Pause||
ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਦੀ ਤਹਿ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਅੱਪੜਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਨਾ ਓਦਾਸੀ ॥
naa ihu girahee naa odaasee |
It is not a house-holder, and it is not a renouncer of the world.
(ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤੀ, ਉਦਾਸੀ ਰਾਜਾ, ਕੰਗਾਲ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ, ਖੱਤ੍ਰੀ ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਇਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ) ਨਾਹ ਇਹ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤੀ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਉਦਾਸੀ,
ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਰਾਜ ਨ ਭੀਖ ਮੰਗਾਸੀ ॥
naa ihu raaj na bheekh mangaasee |
It is not a king, and it is not a beggar.
ਨਾਹ ਇਹ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਮੰਗਤਾ
ਨਾ ਇਸੁ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਨ ਰਕਤੂ ਰਾਤੀ ॥
naa is pindd na rakatoo raatee |
It has no body, no drop of blood.
ਨਾਹ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਸਰੀਰ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਲਹੂ ਹੈ
ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਨੁ ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਖਾਤੀ ॥੨॥
naa ihu brahaman naa ihu khaatee |2|
It is not a Brahmin, and it is not a Kh'shaatriya. ||2||
ਨਾਹ ਇਹ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਖੱਤ੍ਰੀ ॥੨॥
ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਤਪਾ ਕਹਾਵੈ ਸੇਖੁ ॥
naa ihu tapaa kahaavai sekh |
It is not called a man of austere self-discipline, or a Shaykh.
(ਤਪੇ, ਸ਼ੇਖ਼, ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਮਰਦਾ ਭੀ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ) ਨਾਹ ਇਹ ਕੋਈ ਤਪਸ੍ਵੀ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ੇਖ਼ ਹੈ
ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਜੀਵੈ ਨ ਮਰਤਾ ਦੇਖੁ ॥
naa ihu jeevai na marataa dekh |
It does not live, and it is not seen to die.
ਨਾਹ ਇਹ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਸੁ ਮਰਤੇ ਕਉ ਜੇ ਕੋਊ ਰੋਵੈ ॥
eis marate kau je koaoo rovai |
If someone cries over its death,
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਇਸ (ਅੰਦਰ-ਵੱਸਦੇ) ਨੂੰ ਮਰਦਾ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਰੋਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜੋ ਰੋਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਵੈ ॥੩॥
jo rovai soee pat khovai |3|
that person loses his honor. ||3||
ਉਹ (ਜੋ ਰੋਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਮੈ ਡਗਰੋ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
gur prasaad mai ddagaro paaeaa |
By Guru's Grace, I have found the Path.
(ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾ) ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ) ਰਸਤਾ ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ,
ਜੀਵਨ ਮਰਨੁ ਦੋਊ ਮਿਟਵਾਇਆ ॥
jeevan maran doaoo mittavaaeaa |
Birth and death have both been erased.
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਕਰਾ ਲਏ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਮੇਰਾ ਜਨਮ-ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਇਹੁ ਰਾਮ ਕੀ ਅੰਸੁ ॥

Says Kabeer, this is formed of the same essence as the Lord.
ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- (ਹੁਣ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਸਾਡੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਇਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਅੰਸ ਹੈ,
ਜਸ ਕਾਗਦ ਪਰ ਮਿਟੈ ਨ ਮੰਸੁ ॥੪॥੨॥੫॥
jas kaagad par mittai na mans |4|2|5|
It is like the ink on the paper which cannot be erased. ||4||2||5||
ਤੇ ਇਹ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਆਪੋ ਵਿਚ ਇਉਂ ਜੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਾਗ਼ਜ਼ ਅਤੇ (ਕਾਗ਼ਜ਼ ਉੱਤੇ ਲਿਖੇ ਅੱਖਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਸਿਆਹੀ ॥੪॥੨॥੫॥

ਤੂਟੇ ਤਾਗੇ ਨਿਖੁਟੀ ਪਾਨਿ ॥

The threads are broken, and the starch has run out.
(ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਘਰ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ-ਕਾਜ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਜੇ) ਤਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਧਾਗੇ ਟੁੱਟੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ (ਤਾਂ ਟੁੱਟੇ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ), ਜੇ ਪਾਣ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਈ ਹੈ (ਤਾਂ ਮੁੱਕੀ ਹੀ ਪਈ ਹੈ)।
ਦੁਆਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਝਿਲਕਾਵਹਿ ਕਾਨ ॥
duaar aoopar jhilakaaveh kaan |
Bare reeds glisten at the front door.
ਬੂਹੇ ਤੇ (ਸੱਖਣੇ) ਕਾਨੇ ਪਏ ਲਿਸ਼ਕਦੇ ਹਨ (ਵਰਤਣ ਖੁਣੋਂ ਪਏ ਹਨ)
ਕੂਚ ਬਿਚਾਰੇ ਫੂਏ ਫਾਲ ॥
kooch bichaare fooe faal |
The poor brushes are scattered in pieces.
ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੱਚ ਤੀਲਾ ਤੀਲਾ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ
ਇਆ ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਚਢਿਬੋ ਕਾਲ ॥੧॥
eaa munddeea sir chadtibo kaal |1|
Death has entered this shaven head. ||1||
(ਪਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਇਸ ਸਾਧੂ ਦਾ ਕੀਹ ਬਣੇਗਾ), ਇਸ ਸਾਧੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਮੌਤ ਸਵਾਰ ਹੋਈ ਜਾਪਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਇਹੁ ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਸਗਲੋ ਦ੍ਰਬੁ ਖੋਈ ॥
eihu munddeea sagalo drab khoee |
This shaven-headed mendicant has wasted all his wealth.
(ਮੇਰਾ) ਇਹ (ਖਸਮ) ਸਾਧੂ ਸਾਰਾ (ਕਮਾਇਆ) ਧਨ ਗਵਾਈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਵਤ ਜਾਤ ਨਾਕ ਸਰ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aavat jaat naak sar hoee |1| rahaau |
All this coming and going has irritated him. ||1||Pause||
(ਇਸ ਦੇ ਸਤਸੰਗੀਆਂ ਦੀ) ਆਵਾਜਾਈ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੀ ਨੱਕ-ਜਿੰਦ ਆਈ ਪਈ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤੁਰੀ ਨਾਰਿ ਕੀ ਛੋਡੀ ਬਾਤਾ ॥
turee naar kee chhoddee baataa |
He has given up all talk of his weaving equipment.
ਤੁਰੀ ਤੇ ਨਾਲਾਂ (ਦੇ ਵਰਤਣ) ਦਾ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ (ਭਾਵ, ਕੱਪੜਾ ਉਣਨ ਦਾ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ)।
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਵਾ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
raam naam vaa kaa man raataa |
His mind is attuned to the Lord's Name.
ਇਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਸਦਾ ਰਾਮ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਲਰਿਕੀ ਲਰਿਕਨ ਖੈਬੋ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
larikee larikan khaibo naeh |
His daughters and sons have nothing to eat,
(ਘਰ ਵਿਚ) ਕੁੜੀ ਮੁੰਡਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਖਾਣ ਜੋਗਾ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ (ਰਹਿੰਦਾ)
ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਧਾਪੇ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
munddeea anadin dhaape jaeh |2|
while the shaven-headed mendicants night and day eat their fill. ||2||
ਪਰ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਸਤਸੰਗੀ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਰੱਜ ਕੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਨੋਟ: ਸ਼ਿਕਾਇਤ ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਾਂਭ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦਾ। ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਿਆ) ॥੨॥
ਇਕ ਦੁਇ ਮੰਦਰਿ ਇਕ ਦੁਇ ਬਾਟ ॥
eik due mandar ik due baatt |
One or two are in the house, and one or two more are on the way.
ਜੇ ਇੱਕ ਦੋ ਸਾਧੂ (ਸਾਡੇ) ਘਰ ਬੈਠੇ ਹਨ ਤਾਂ ਇਕ ਦੋ ਤੁਰੇ ਭੀ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਆਵਾਜਾਈ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ)।
ਹਮ ਕਉ ਸਾਥਰੁ ਉਨ ਕਉ ਖਾਟ ॥
ham kau saathar un kau khaatt |
We sleep on the floor, while they sleep in the beds.
ਸਾਨੂੰ ਭੁੰਞੇ ਸੌਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਜੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮੂਡ ਪਲੋਸਿ ਕਮਰ ਬਧਿ ਪੋਥੀ ॥
moodd palos kamar badh pothee |
They rub their bare heads, and carry prayer-books in their waist-bands.
ਉਹ ਸਾਧੂ ਲੱਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪੋਥੀਆਂ ਲਮਕਾਈਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਸਿਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਹੱਥ ਫੇਰਦੇ ਤੁਰੇ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਮ ਕਉ ਚਾਬਨੁ ਉਨ ਕਉ ਰੋਟੀ ॥੩॥
ham kau chaaban un kau rottee |3|
We get dry grains, while they get loaves of bread. ||3||
(ਕਈ ਵਾਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੁਵੇਲੇ ਆ ਜਾਣ ਤੇ) ਸਾਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਭੁੱਜੇ ਦਾਣੇ ਚੱਬਣੇ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਟੀਆਂ ਮਿਲਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਹੂਏ ਏਕ ॥

He will become one of these shaven-headed mendicants.
ਹੇ ਕਬੀਰ! (ਆਖ-ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਤ-ਸੰਗੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਇਹ ਪਿਆਰ ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਸਤ ਸੰਗੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਆਪੋ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
ਏ ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਬੂਡਤ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ॥

They are the support of the drowning.
ਤੇ ਇਹ ਸਤ-ਸੰਗੀ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬਦਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹਨ।
ਸੁਨਿ ਅੰਧਲੀ ਲੋਈ ਬੇਪੀਰਿ ॥

Listen, O blind and unguided Loi:
ਹੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਨਿਗੁਰੀ ਲੋਈ! ਸੁਣ!
ਇਨੑ ਮੁੰਡੀਅਨ ਭਜਿ ਸਰਨਿ ਕਬੀਰ ॥੪॥੩॥੬॥

Kabeer has taken shelter with these shaven-headed mendicants. ||4||3||6||
ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਤ-ਸੰਗੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪਉ ॥੪॥੩॥੬॥

ਖਸਮੁ ਮਰੈ ਤਉ ਨਾਰਿ ਨ ਰੋਵੈ ॥
khasam marai tau naar na rovai |
When her husband dies, the woman does not cry.
(ਪਰ ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ (ਮਾਇਆ) ਵਹੁਟੀ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਰਨ ਤੇ) ਰੋਂਦੀ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ,
ਉਸੁ ਰਖਵਾਰਾ ਅਉਰੋ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
aus rakhavaaraa aauro hovai |
Someone else becomes her protector.
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਰਾਖਾ (ਖਸਮ) ਕੋਈ ਧਿਰ ਹੋਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਸੋ, ਇਹ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਰੰਡੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ)।
ਰਖਵਾਰੇ ਕਾ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਨਾਸ ॥
rakhavaare kaa hoe binaas |
When this protector dies,
(ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ) ਰਾਖਾ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਗੈ ਨਰਕੁ ਈਹਾ ਭੋਗ ਬਿਲਾਸ ॥੧॥
aagai narak eehaa bhog bilaas |1|
he falls into the world of hell hereafter, for the sexual pleasures he enjoyed in this world. ||1||
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇੱਥੇ ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਭੋਗਾਂ (ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿਣ) ਕਰਕੇ ਅਗਾਂਹ (ਆਪਣੇ ਲਈ) ਨਰਕ ਸਹੇੜਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਏਕ ਸੁਹਾਗਨਿ ਜਗਤ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥
ek suhaagan jagat piaaree |
The world loves only the one bride, Maya.
(ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ) ਇਕ ਐਸੀ ਸੁਹਾਗਣ ਨਾਰ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਗਲੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਕੀ ਨਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਆ ਜੰਤ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਗਲਿ ਸੋਹੈ ਹਾਰੁ ॥

With her necklace around her neck, this bride looks beautiful.
ਇਸ ਸੋਹਾਗਣ ਨਾਰ ਦੇ ਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਹਾਰ ਸੋਭਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ, ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਮੋਹਣ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹਣੀ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ)।
ਸੰਤ ਕਉ ਬਿਖੁ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥

She is poison to the Saint, but the world is delighted with her.
(ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ) ਜਗਤ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ (ਵਾਂਗ) ਦਿੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਬਹੈ ਪਖਿਆਰੀ ॥
kar seegaar bahai pakhiaaree |
Adorning herself, she sits like a prostitute.
ਵੇਸਵਾ (ਵਾਂਗ) ਸਦਾ ਸ਼ਿੰਗਾਰ ਕਰੀ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਸੰਤ ਕੀ ਠਿਠਕੀ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
sant kee tthitthakee firai bichaaree |2|
Cursed by the Saints, she wanders around like a wretch. ||2||
ਪਰ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਫਿਟਕਾਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਵਿਚਾਰੀ (ਸੰਤਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਪਰੇ ਪਰੇ ਹੀ ਫਿਰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸੰਤ ਭਾਗਿ ਓਹ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਰੈ ॥
sant bhaag oeh paachhai parai |
She runs around, chasing after the Saints.
(ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ) ਭੱਜ ਕੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਲੜ ਲੱਗਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਾਰਹੁ ਡਰੈ ॥
gur parasaadee maarahu ddarai |
She is afraid of being beaten by those blessed with the Guru's Grace.
ਪਰ (ਸੰਤਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੋਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਇਹ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮਾਰ ਤੋਂ ਭੀ ਡਰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁੱਕਦੀ)।
ਸਾਕਤ ਕੀ ਓਹ ਪਿੰਡ ਪਰਾਇਣਿ ॥
saakat kee oeh pindd paraaein |
She is the body, the breath of life, of the faithless cynics.
ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੁੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ-ਜਾਨ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਹਮ ਕਉ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਪਰੈ ਤ੍ਰਖਿ ਡਾਇਣਿ ॥੩॥
ham kau drisatt parai trakh ddaaein |3|
She appears to me like a blood-thirsty witch. ||3||
ਪਰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਡੈਣ ਦਿੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਹਮ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਬਹੁ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਭੇਉ ॥
ham tis kaa bahu jaaniaa bheo |
I know her secrets well
ਤਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਭੇਤ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਜਬ ਹੂਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਮਿਲੇ ਗੁਰਦੇਉ ॥
jab hooe kripaal mile guradeo |
in His Mercy, the Divine Guru met me.
ਜਦੋਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਦਿਆਲ ਹੋਏ ਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ।
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਅਬ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਪਰੀ ॥
kahu kabeer ab baahar paree |
Says Kabeer, now I have thrown her out.
ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਮੈਥੋਂ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ (ਹੁਣ) ਪਰੇ ਹਟ ਗਈ ਹੈ,
ਸੰਸਾਰੈ ਕੈ ਅੰਚਲਿ ਲਰੀ ॥੪॥੪॥੭॥
sansaarai kai anchal laree |4|4|7|
She clings to the skirt of the world. ||4||4||7||
ਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੱਲੇ ਜਾ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੪॥੭॥
