ਕਾਮਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਲੋਭਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਲੀਨਾ ॥
kaam krodh lobh mohi man leenaa |
The mind is engrossed in sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment.
(ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਵੇਖ, ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਮਨ (ਸਦਾ) ਕਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਵਿਚ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਨਾ ॥੨॥
bandhan kaatt mukat gur keenaa |2|
Breaking my bonds, the Guru has liberated me. ||2||
(ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ), ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ) ਬੰਧਨ ਕੱਟ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ ॥੨॥
ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਕਰਤ ਜਨਮਿ ਫੁਨਿ ਮੂਆ ॥
dukh sukh karat janam fun mooaa |
Experiencing pain and pleasure, one is born, only to die again.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਦੁੱਖ ਸੁਖ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਦੇ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਦੇ ਜੀਊ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਗੁਰਿ ਆਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਦੀਆ ॥੩॥

The Lotus Feet of the Guru bring peace and shelter. ||3||
(ਦੁੱਖ ਵਾਪਰਿਆਂ ਸਹਿਮ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਣ ਤੇ ਸੌਖਾ ਸਾਹ ਲੈਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਡੁਬਕੀਆਂ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੩॥
ਅਗਨਿ ਸਾਗਰ ਬੂਡਤ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥

The world is drowning in the ocean of fire.
ਜਗਤ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਾਹ ਪਕਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੩॥੮॥
naanak baah pakar satigur nisataaraa |4|3|8|
O Nanak, holding me by the arm, the True Guru has saved me. ||4||3||8||
(ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਬਾਂਹ ਫੜ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੪॥੩॥੮॥

Bilaaval, Fifth Mehl:
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਅਰਪਉ ਸਭੁ ਅਪਨਾ ॥
tan man dhan arpau sabh apanaa |
Body, mind, wealth and everything, I surrender to my Lord.
(ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਵਾਲੀ ਸੁਮਤਿ ਦੇ ਦੇਵੇ, ਤਾਂ) ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਆਪਣਾ ਧਨ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਭੇਟਾ ਕਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਰ ਹਾਂ।
ਕਵਨ ਸੁ ਮਤਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਨਾ ॥੧॥
kavan su mat jit har har japanaa |1|
What is that wisdom, by which I may come to chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har? ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਕੇਹੜੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? ॥੧॥
ਕਰਿ ਆਸਾ ਆਇਓ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਾਗਨਿ ॥
kar aasaa aaeo prabh maagan |
Nurturing hope, I have come to beg from God.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਆਸਾ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਮੰਗਣ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ।
ਤੁਮੑ ਪੇਖਤ ਸੋਭਾ ਮੇਰੈ ਆਗਨਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tuma pekhat sobhaa merai aagan |1| rahaau |
Gazing upon You, the courtyard of my heart is embellished. ||1||Pause||
ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਮੇਰੇ (ਹਿਰਦੇ-) ਵੇਹੜੇ ਵਿਚ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅਨਿਕ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਉ ॥
anik jugat kar bahut beechaarau |
Trying several methods, I reflect deeply upon the Lord.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਢੰਗ (ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ) ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਬੜਾ ਵਿਚਾਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਕਿ ਕਿਸ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਇਆ ਜਾਏ।
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਇਸੁ ਮਨਹਿ ਉਧਾਰਉ ॥੨॥
saadhasang is maneh udhaarau |2|
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, this mind is saved. ||2||
ਅਖ਼ੀਰ ਤੇ ਇਹੀ ਸਮਝ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਹੀ) ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਮੈਂ ਬਚਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੨॥
ਮਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
mat budh surat naahee chaturaaee |
I have neither intelligence, wisdom, common sense nor cleverness.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕਿਸੇ ਮਤਿ, ਕਿਸੇ ਅਕਲ, ਕਿਸੇ ਧਿਆਨ, ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਤਾ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਜਾ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥੩॥
taa mileeai jaa le milaaee |3|
I meet You, only if You lead me to meet You. ||3||
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਨੈਨ ਸੰਤੋਖੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
nain santokhe prabh darasan paaeaa |
My eyes are content, gazing upon the Blessed Vision of God's Darshan.
(ਦਰਸਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਜਿਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ,
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਫਲੁ ਸੋ ਆਇਆ ॥੪॥੪॥੯॥
kahu naanak safal so aaeaa |4|4|9|
Says Nanak, such a life is fruitful and rewarding. ||4||4||9||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਣਾ ਮੁਬਾਰਿਕ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੪॥੯॥
ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Bilaaval, Fifth Mehl:
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
maat pitaa sut saath na maaeaa |
Mother, father, children and the wealth of Maya, will not go along with you.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਾਂ, ਪਿਉ, ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਮਾਇਆ-(ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ) ਸਾਥੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣ ਸਕਦਾ, (ਦੁੱਖ ਵਾਪਰਨ ਤੇ ਭੀ ਸਹਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣ ਸਕਦਾ)।
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਸਭੁ ਦੂਖੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
saadhasang sabh dookh mittaaeaa |1|
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, all pain is dispelled. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆਂ ਸਾਰਾ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਆਪੇ ॥
rav rahiaa prabh sabh meh aape |
God Himself is pervading, and permeating all.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜੇਹੜਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਜਪੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har jap rasanaa dukh na viaape |1| rahaau |
Chant the Name of the Lord with your tongue, and pain will not afflict you. ||1||Pause||
ਉਸ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ) ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤਿਖਾ ਭੂਖ ਬਹੁ ਤਪਤਿ ਵਿਆਪਿਆ ॥
tikhaa bhookh bahu tapat viaapiaa |
One who is afflicted by the terrible fire of thirst and desire,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਗਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਸੜਨ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਸੀਤਲ ਭਏ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਜਾਪਿਆ ॥੨॥
seetal bhe har har jas jaapiaa |2|
becomes cool, chanting the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har. ||2||
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ) ਠੰਢੇ-ਠਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਕੋਟਿ ਜਤਨ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
kott jatan santokh na paaeaa |
By millions of efforts, peace is not obtained
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਜਤਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਭੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਲੋਂ) ਸੰਤੋਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
man tripataanaa har gun gaaeaa |3|
the mind is satisfied only by singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਇਆਂ ਮਨ ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਦੇਹੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥
dehu bhagat prabh antarajaamee |
Please bless me with devotion, O God, O Searcher of hearts.
ਹੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ ਦਾਨ ਦੇਹ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੦॥
naanak kee benantee suaamee |4|5|10|
This is Nanak's prayer, O Lord and Master. ||4||5||10||
ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ! (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ) ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਏਹੋ) ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੦॥

ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
gur pooraa vaddabhaagee paaeeai |
By great good fortune, the Perfect Guru is found.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪੂਰੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ (ਹੀ) ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੧॥
mil saadhoo har naam dhiaaeeai |1|
Meeting with the Holy Saints, meditate on the Name of the Lord. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਹੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨਾ ॥
paarabraham prabh teree saranaa |
O Supreme Lord God, I seek Your Sanctuary.
ਹੇ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੈਂ) ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ)।
ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਕਾਟੈ ਭਜੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kilabikh kaattai bhaj gur ke charanaa |1| rahaau |
Meditating on the Guru's Feet, sinful mistakes are erased. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਲੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਕੱਟ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅਵਰਿ ਕਰਮ ਸਭਿ ਲੋਕਾਚਾਰ ॥
avar karam sabh lokaachaar |
All other rituals are just worldly affairs
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਕਰਮ ਨਿਰਾ ਵਿਖਾਵਾ ਹੀ ਹਨ।
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਹੋਇ ਉਧਾਰ ॥੨॥
mil saadhoo sang hoe udhaar |2|
joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, one is saved. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਹੀ) ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ-ਉਤਾਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ ਬੇਦ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥
sinmrit saasat bed beechaare |
One may contemplate the Simritees, Shaastras and Vedas,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਰੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ, ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਵੇਦ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਏ ਹਨ।
ਜਪੀਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੇ ॥੩॥
japeeai naam jit paar utaare |3|
but only by chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is one saved and carried across. ||3||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੀਐ ॥
jan naanak kau prabh kirapaa kareeai |
Have Mercy upon servant Nanak, O God,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ।
ਸਾਧੂ ਧੂਰਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਨਿਸਤਰੀਐ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੧॥
saadhoo dhoor milai nisatareeai |4|6|11|
and bless him with the dust of the feet of the Holy, that he may be emancipated. ||4||6||11||
(ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ। (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ) ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੧॥

I contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad within my heart
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀਆਂ ਨੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਚਾਰਿਆ,
ਸਗਲ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਸੀਨਾ ॥੧॥
sagal manorath pooran aaseenaa |1|
all my hopes and desires are fulfilled. ||1||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਆਸਾਂ ਸਿਰੇ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਗਈਆਂ ॥੧॥
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਾ ਮੁਖੁ ਊਜਲੁ ਕੀਨਾ ॥
sant janaa kaa mukh aoojal keenaa |
The faces of the humble Saints are radiant and bright
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੂੰਹ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਰੌਸ਼ਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ,
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kar kirapaa apunaa naam deenaa |1| rahaau |
the Lord has mercifully blessed them with the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਤੇ ਕਰੁ ਗਹਿ ਲੀਨਾ ॥
andh koop te kar geh leenaa |
Holding them by the hand, He has lifted them up out of the deep, dark pit,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਹਨੇਰੇ ਖੂਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹੱਥ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਕੱਢ ਲਿਆ।
ਜੈ ਜੈ ਕਾਰੁ ਜਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੀਨਾ ॥੨॥
jai jai kaar jagat pragatteenaa |2|
and their victory is celebrated throughout the world. ||2||
ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਬੜੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਖਿਲਰ ਗਈ ॥੨॥
ਨੀਚਾ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਊਨ ਪੂਰੀਨਾ ॥
neechaa te aooch aoon pooreenaa |
He elevates and exalts the lowly, and fills the empty.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੀਵਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੇ ਬਣ ਗਏ, ਉਹ (ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਸੱਖਣੇ (ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਭਰ ਗਏ,
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਲੀਨਾ ॥੩॥
amrit naam mahaa ras leenaa |3|
They receive the supreme, sublime essence of the Ambrosial Naam. ||3||
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਬੜਾ ਸੁਆਦਲਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੩॥
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਪਾਪ ਜਲਿ ਖੀਨਾ ॥
man tan niramal paap jal kheenaa |
The mind and body are made immaculate and pure, and sins are burnt to ashes.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਸੜ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਹ ਹੋ ਗਏ,
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਏ ਪ੍ਰਸੀਨਾ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੨॥
kahu naanak prabh bhe praseenaa |4|7|12|
Says Nanak, God is pleased with me. ||4||7||12||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਗਏ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੨॥

ਸਗਲ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪਾਈਅਹਿ ਮੀਤਾ ॥
sagal manorath paaeeeh meetaa |
All desires are fulfilled, O my friend,
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ) ਮਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਮੁਰਾਦਾਂ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਈਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
