ਕਰਣਹਾਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ਨ ਸਾਧੀ ॥੧॥
karanahaar kee sev na saadhee |1|
He has not performed any service to the Creator Lord. ||1||
ਤੂੰ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਅਸੀਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ॥੧॥
ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਮ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ॥
patit paavan prabh naam tumaare |
O God, Your Name is the Purifier of sinners.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਨੀਆਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raakh lehu mohi niraguneeaare |1| rahaau |
I am worthless - please save me! ||1||Pause||
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਨ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਕੇ) ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਈ ਰੱਖ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤੂੰ ਦਾਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥

O God, You are the Great Giver, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਸਾਡੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਕਾਚੀ ਦੇਹ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ॥੨॥
kaachee deh maanukh abhimaanee |2|
The body of the egotistical human is perishable. ||2||
ਪਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਇਸ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਮਾਣ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ (ਤੇ, ਤੈਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ) ॥੨॥
ਸੁਆਦ ਬਾਦ ਈਰਖ ਮਦ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
suaad baad eerakh mad maaeaa |
Tastes and pleasures, conflicts and jealousy, and intoxication with Maya
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ) ਚਸਕੇ, ਝਗੜੇ, ਸਾੜਾ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮਾਣ-
ਇਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਾਗਿ ਰਤਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
ein sang laag ratan janam gavaaeaa |3|
- attached to these, the jewel of human life is wasted. ||3||
ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਨੂੰ ਗਵਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ ॥੩॥
ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥
dukh bhanjan jagajeevan har raaeaa |
The Sovereign Lord King is the Destroyer of pain, the Life of the world.
ਹੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ! ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ!
ਸਗਲ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਰਣਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੧੯॥

Forsaking everything, Nanak has entered His Sanctuary. ||4||13||19||

Soohee, Fifth Mehl:
ਪੇਖਤ ਚਾਖਤ ਕਹੀਅਤ ਅੰਧਾ ਸੁਨੀਅਤ ਸੁਨੀਐ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
pekhat chaakhat kaheeat andhaa suneeat suneeai naahee |
He sees with his eyes, but he is called blind he hears, but he does not hear.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ। ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ, ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਵੇਖਦਾ ਚਾਖਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਭੀ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਰਾਗ ਨਾਦ) ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਭੀ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣ ਰਿਹਾ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਬੋਲਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ)।
ਨਿਕਟਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਕਉ ਜਾਣੈ ਦੂਰੇ ਪਾਪੀ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਹੀ ॥੧॥
nikatt vasat kau jaanai doore paapee paap kamaahee |1|
And the One who dwells near at hand, he thinks that He is far away the sinner is committing sins. ||1||
ਨੇੜੇ ਵੱਸ ਰਹੇ (ਨਾਮ-) ਪਦਾਰਥ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਤੇ ਦੂਰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਉਕਾਈ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਹੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਸੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਛੁਟਹਿ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥
so kichh kar jit chhutteh paraanee |
Do only those deeds which will save you, O mortal being.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਕੋਈ ਉਹ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਿਆ ਰਹਿ ਸਕੇਂ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har har naam jap amrit baanee |1| rahaau |
Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, and the Ambrosial Word of His Bani. ||1||Pause||
ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ। (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਿਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ) ਬਾਣੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਘੋਰ ਮਹਲ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
ghor mehal sadaa rang raataa |
You are forever imbued with the love of horses and mansions.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਘੋੜੇ ਮਹਲ-ਮਾੜੀਆਂ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਸੰਗਿ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੈ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਤਾ ॥੨॥
sang tumaarai kachhoo na jaataa |2|
Nothing shall go along with you. ||2||
(ਪਰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਚੀਜ਼ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ॥੨॥
ਰਖਹਿ ਪੋਚਾਰਿ ਮਾਟੀ ਕਾ ਭਾਂਡਾ ॥
rakheh pochaar maattee kaa bhaanddaa |
You may clean and decorate the vessel of clay,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ (ਸਰੀਰ) ਨੂੰ (ਬਾਹਰੋਂ) ਬਣਾ ਸੰਵਾਰ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ
ਅਤਿ ਕੁਚੀਲ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਮ ਡਾਂਡਾ ॥੩॥
at kucheel milai jam ddaanddaa |3|
but it is so very filthy it shall receive its punishment from the Messenger of Death. ||3||
(ਪਰ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਇਹ) ਬਹੁਤ ਗੰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ। (ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ) ਜਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਲੋਭਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਾਧਾ ॥
kaam krodh lobh mohi baadhaa |
You are bound by sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਤੂੰ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਵਿਚ, ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝਾ ਪਿਆ ਹੈਂ।
ਮਹਾ ਗਰਤ ਮਹਿ ਨਿਘਰਤ ਜਾਤਾ ॥੪॥
mahaa garat meh nigharat jaataa |4|
You are sinking down into the great pit. ||4||
ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਹੋਏ ਵਿਚ (ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ) ਖੁੱਭਦਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੪॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਸੁਣੀਜੈ ॥

Hear this prayer of Nanak, O Lord
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸ) ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਸੁਣ।
ਡੂਬਤ ਪਾਹਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਲੀਜੈ ॥੫॥੧੪॥੨੦॥
ddoobat paahan prabh mere leejai |5|14|20|
I am a stone, sinking down - please, rescue me! ||5||14||20||
ਅਸਾਂ ਡੁੱਬ ਰਹੇ ਪੱਥਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਡੁੱਬਣੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲੈ ॥੫॥੧੪॥੨੦॥

ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰੈ ਬੁਝੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥

One who remains dead while yet alive understands God.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ) ਮੋਹ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
tis jan karam paraapat hoe |1|
He meets that humble being according to the karma of his past actions. ||1||
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸੁਣਿ ਸਾਜਨ ਇਉ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਤਰੀਐ ॥
sun saajan iau dutar tareeai |
Listen, O friend - this is how to cross over the terrifying world-ocean.
ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣ! (ਮੇਰੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ) ਸੁਣ। ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ)
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਰੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mil saadhoo har naam uchareeai |1| rahaau |
Meet with the Holy, and chant the Lord's Name||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਜਾਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਏਕ ਬਿਨਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
ek binaa doojaa nahee jaanai |
There is no other to know, except for the One Lord.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨਾਲ ਦਿਲੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦਾ,
ਘਟ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥੨॥
ghatt ghatt antar paarabraham pachhaanai |2|
So realize that the Supreme Lord God is within each and every heart. ||2||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਪਛਾਣ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੋਈ ਭਲ ਮਾਨੈ ॥
jo kichh karai soee bhal maanai |
Whatever He does, accept that as good.
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰੇਕ ਉਸ ਕੰਮ ਨੂੰ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਭਲਾ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਜਾਨੈ ॥੩॥
aad ant kee keemat jaanai |3|
Know the value of the beginning and the end. ||3||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥
kahu naanak tis jan balihaaree |
Says Nanak, I am a sacrifice to that humble being,
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੋਂ (ਮੈਂ) ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਹਿ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੧੫॥੨੧॥
jaa kai hiradai vaseh muraaree |4|15|21|
within whose heart the Lord dwells. ||4||15||21||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ) ॥੪॥੧੫॥੨੧॥

ਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ॥

The Guru is the Transcendent Lord, the Creator Lord.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਗਲ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕਉ ਦੇ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
sagal srisatt kau de aadhaar |1|
He gives His Support to the entire Universe. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨੂੰ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਆਸਰਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਮਨ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
gur ke charan kamal man dhiaae |
Meditate within your mind on the Lotus Feet of the Guru.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! (ਸਦਾ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਕੋਮਲ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਿਆ ਕਰ।
ਦੂਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਇਸੁ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dookh darad is tan te jaae |1| rahaau |
Pain and suffering shall leave this body. ||1||Pause||
(ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਤੋਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਭਵਜਲਿ ਡੂਬਤ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਕਾਢੈ ॥
bhavajal ddoobat satigur kaadtai |
The True Guru saves the drowning being from the terrifying world-ocean.
(ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਡੁਬਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕਾ ਟੂਟਾ ਗਾਢੈ ॥੨॥
janam janam kaa ttoottaa gaadtai |2|
He reunites those who were separated for countless incarnations. ||2||
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ) ਟੁੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ) ਜੋੜ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
gur kee sevaa karahu din raat |
Serve the Guru, day and night.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਦੱਸੀ ਹੋਈ) ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ।
ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਮਨਿ ਆਵੈ ਸਾਂਤਿ ॥੩॥
sookh sehaj man aavai saant |3|
Your mind shall come to have peace, pleasure and poise. ||3||
(ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਰੇਣੁ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
satigur kee ren vaddabhaagee paavai |
By great good fortune, one obtains the dust of the feet of the True Guru.
ਕੋਈ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੪॥੧੬॥੨੨॥

Nanak is forever a sacrifice to the True Guru. ||4||16||22||

ਗੁਰ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਊਪਰਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਐ ॥
gur apune aoopar bal jaaeeai |
I am a sacrifice to my True Guru.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਉੱਤੋਂ (ਸਦਾ) ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹੋਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਆਪਾ- ਭਾਵ ਮਿਟਾ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਈਐ ॥੧॥
aatth pehar har har jas gaaeeai |1|
Twenty-four hours a day, I sing the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ) ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸਿਮਰਉ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
simrau so prabh apanaa suaamee |
Meditate in remembrance on God, your Lord and Master.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਉਹ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sagal ghattaa kaa antarajaamee |1| rahaau |
He is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of all hearts. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥

So love the Lord's Lotus Feet,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਚੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰੀਤਿ ॥੨॥
saachee pooran niramal reet |2|
and live a lifestyle which is true, perfect and spotless. ||2||
(ਗੁਰ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਹੀ) ਅਟੱਲ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਤੇ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
sant prasaad vasai man maahee |
By the Grace of the Saints, the Lord comes to dwell within the mind,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਜਾਹੀ ॥੩॥
janam janam ke kilavikh jaahee |3|
and the sins of countless incarnations are eradicated. ||3||
(ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
kar kirapaa prabh deen deaalaa |
Please be Merciful, O God, O Merciful to the meek.
ਹੇ ਨਿਮਾਣਿਆਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਤੇ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ।
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮਾਗੈ ਸੰਤ ਰਵਾਲਾ ॥੪॥੧੭॥੨੩॥
naanak maagai sant ravaalaa |4|17|23|
Nanak begs for the dust of the Saints. ||4||17||23||
(ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ) ਨਾਨਕ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੭॥੨੩॥
