ਸੁਣਿ ਗਲਾ ਗੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
sun galaa gur peh aaeaa |
I heard of the Guru, and so I went to Him.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੀਆਂ) ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ,
ਨਾਮੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਦਿੜਾਇਆ ॥
naam daan isanaan dirraaeaa |
He instilled within me the Naam, the goodness of charity and true cleansing.
ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਬਿਠਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ, ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਵਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ, ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜਵਿਨ ਬਨਾਣਾ-ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ
ਸਭੁ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਹੋਆ ਸੈਸਾਰੜਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੀ ਬੇੜੀ ਚਾੜਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੧॥
sabh mukat hoaa saisaararraa naanak sachee berree chaarr jeeo |11|
All the world is liberated, O Nanak, by embarking upon the Boat of Truth. ||11||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ (ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬੇੜੀ ਵਿਚ ਬਿਠਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਹੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੧॥
ਸਭ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸੇਵੇ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
sabh srisatt seve din raat jeeo |
The whole Universe serves You, day and night.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਦੇ ਕੰਨੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
de kan sunahu aradaas jeeo |
Please hear my prayer, O Dear Lord.
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਤੂੰ (ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੀ) ਅਰਦਾਸ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਠੋਕਿ ਵਜਾਇ ਸਭ ਡਿਠੀਆ ਤੁਸਿ ਆਪੇ ਲਇਅਨੁ ਛਡਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੨॥
tthok vajaae sabh ddittheea tus aape leian chhaddaae jeeo |12|
I have thoroughly tested and seen all-You alone, by Your Pleasure, can save us. ||12||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਰਖ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਛਡਾਇਆ ਹੈ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਛਡਾਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
ਹੁਣਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਹੋਆ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਣ ਦਾ ॥
hun hukam hoaa miharavaan daa |
Now, the Merciful Lord has issued His Command.
ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਣ ਐਸਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਪੈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਕਿਸੈ ਰਞਾਣਦਾ ॥
pai koe na kisai rayaanadaa |
Let no one chase after and attack anyone else.
ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰ (ਸਰਨ ਆਏ) ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਦੁਖੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਸਭ ਸੁਖਾਲੀ ਵੁਠੀਆ ਇਹੁ ਹੋਆ ਹਲੇਮੀ ਰਾਜੁ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੩॥
sabh sukhaalee vuttheea ihu hoaa halemee raaj jeeo |13|
Let all abide in peace, under this Benevolent Rule. ||13||
(ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਉਹ) ਸਾਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ (ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, (ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਇਹ ਨਿਮ੍ਰਤਾ ਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧੩॥
ਝਿੰਮਿ ਝਿੰਮਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਵਰਸਦਾ ॥
jhinm jhinm amrit varasadaa |
Softly and gently, drop by drop, the Ambrosial Nectar trickles down.
ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਰਖਾ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਬੋਲਾਇਆ ਬੋਲੀ ਖਸਮ ਦਾ ॥
bolaaeaa bolee khasam daa |
I speak as my Lord and Master causes me to speak.
ਮੈਂ ਖਸਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਬਹੁ ਮਾਣੁ ਕੀਆ ਤੁਧੁ ਉਪਰੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਪਾਇਹਿ ਥਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੪॥
bahu maan keea tudh upare toon aape paaeihi thaae jeeo |14|
I place all my faith in You please accept me. ||14||
ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਹੀ ਮਾਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਕਬੂਲ ਕਰ ਲਏਂਗਾ ॥੧੪॥
ਤੇਰਿਆ ਭਗਤਾ ਭੁਖ ਸਦ ਤੇਰੀਆ ॥
teriaa bhagataa bhukh sad tereea |
Your devotees are forever hungry for You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਲੋਚਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਮੇਰੀਆ ॥
har lochaa pooran mereea |
O Lord, please fulfill my desires.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੇਰੀ ਭੀ ਇਹ ਤਾਂਘ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰ।
ਦੇਹੁ ਦਰਸੁ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਿਆ ਮੈ ਗਲ ਵਿਚਿ ਲੈਹੁ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੫॥
dehu daras sukhadaatiaa mai gal vich laihu milaae jeeo |15|
Grant me the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan, O Giver of Peace. Please, take me into Your Embrace. ||15||
ਹੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੇਹ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਲੈ ॥੧੫॥
ਤੁਧੁ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਭਾਲਿਆ ॥
tudh jevadd avar na bhaaliaa |
I have not found any other as Great as You.
ਤੇਰੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ (ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ) ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ।
ਤੂੰ ਦੀਪ ਲੋਅ ਪਇਆਲਿਆ ॥
toon deep loa peaaliaa |
You pervade the continents, the worlds and the nether regions
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੇਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਭਵਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਪਾਤਾਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਤੂੰ ਥਾਨਿ ਥਨੰਤਰਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਾ ਸਚੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੬॥
toon thaan thanantar rav rahiaa naanak bhagataa sach adhaar jeeo |16|
You are permeating all places and interspaces. Nanak: You are the True Support of Your devotees. ||16||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਹਰੇਕ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈਂ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਨ ਲਈ) ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੬॥
ਹਉ ਗੋਸਾਈ ਦਾ ਪਹਿਲਵਾਨੜਾ ॥
hau gosaaee daa pahilavaanarraa |
I am a wrestler I belong to the Lord of the World.
ਮੈਂ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਅੰਞਾਣ ਜਿਹਾ ਪਹਿਲਵਾਨ ਸਾਂ,
ਮੈ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਉਚ ਦੁਮਾਲੜਾ ॥
mai gur mil uch dumaalarraa |
I met with the Guru, and I have tied a tall, plumed turban.
ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਉੱਚੇ ਦੁਮਾਲੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ।
ਸਭ ਹੋਈ ਛਿੰਝ ਇਕਠੀਆ ਦਯੁ ਬੈਠਾ ਵੇਖੈ ਆਪਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੭॥
sabh hoee chhinjh ikattheea day baitthaa vekhai aap jeeo |17|
All have gathered to watch the wrestling match, and the Merciful Lord Himself is seated to behold it. ||17||
ਜਗਤ-ਅਖਾੜੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਆ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਤੇ (ਇਸ ਅਖਾੜੇ ਨੂੰ) ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਬੈਠਾ ਵੇਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੭॥
ਵਾਤ ਵਜਨਿ ਟੰਮਕ ਭੇਰੀਆ ॥
vaat vajan ttamak bhereea |
The bugles play and the drums beat.
ਵਾਜੇ ਵੱਜ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਢੋਲ ਵੱਜ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਨਗਾਰੇ ਵੱਜ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ ਦੌੜ-ਭਜ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।)
ਮਲ ਲਥੇ ਲੈਦੇ ਫੇਰੀਆ ॥

The wrestlers enter the arena and circle around.
ਪਹਿਲਵਾਨ ਆ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, (ਪਿੜ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ, ਜਗਤ-ਅਖਾੜੇ ਵਿਚ) ਫੇਰੀਆਂ ਲੈ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਿਹਤੇ ਪੰਜਿ ਜੁਆਨ ਮੈ ਗੁਰ ਥਾਪੀ ਦਿਤੀ ਕੰਡਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੮॥
nihate panj juaan mai gur thaapee ditee kandd jeeo |18|
I have thrown the five challengers to the ground, and the Guru has patted me on the back. ||18||
ਮੇਰੀ ਪਿੱਠ ਉੱਤੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਥਾਪੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ (ਵਿਰੋਧੀ) ਪੰਜੇ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਜੁਆਨ ਕਾਬੂ ਕਰ ਲਏ ॥੧੮॥
ਸਭ ਇਕਠੇ ਹੋਇ ਆਇਆ ॥
sabh ikatthe hoe aaeaa |
All have gathered together,
ਸਾਰੇ (ਨਰ ਨਾਰ) ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਏ ਹਨ,
ਘਰਿ ਜਾਸਨਿ ਵਾਟ ਵਟਾਇਆ ॥
ghar jaasan vaatt vattaaeaa |
but we shall return home by different routes.
ਪਰ (ਇੱਥੇ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਪਰਲੋਕ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਖ ਵੱਖ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਲੈ ਗਏ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਚਲੇ ਮੂਲੁ ਗਵਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੯॥
guramukh laahaa lai ge manamukh chale mool gavaae jeeo |19|
The Gurmukhs reap their profits and leave, while the self-willed manmukhs lose their investment and depart. ||19||
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਾਹ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਇੱਥੋਂ (ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਨਫ਼ਾ ਖੱਟ ਕੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਰਾਸ-ਪੂੰਜੀ ਭੀ ਗਵਾ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਪਹਿਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਭਲੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਵੀ ਮੰਦ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਿਟਾ ਕੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ॥੧੯॥
ਤੂੰ ਵਰਨਾ ਚਿਹਨਾ ਬਾਹਰਾ ॥
toon varanaa chihanaa baaharaa |
You are without color or mark.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਰੰਗ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਚਿਹਨ-ਚੱਕਰ ਹਨ,
ਹਰਿ ਦਿਸਹਿ ਹਾਜਰੁ ਜਾਹਰਾ ॥
har diseh haajar jaaharaa |
The Lord is seen to be manifest and present.
ਫਿਰ ਭੀ, ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੂੰ (ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਤੁਝੈ ਧਿਆਇਦੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਰਤੇ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੁ ਜੀਉ ॥੨੦॥
sun sun tujhai dhiaaeide tere bhagat rate gunataas jeeo |20|
Hearing of Your Glories again and again, Your devotees meditate on You they are attuned to You, O Lord, Treasure of Excellence. ||20||
ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਾਂ ਸੁਣ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਤੈਨੂੰੈ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਤੂੰ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈਂ। ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨੦॥
ਮੈ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਦਯੈ ਸੇਵੜੀ ॥
mai jug jug dayai sevarree |
Through age after age, I am the servant of the Merciful Lord.
ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਗੁਰਿ ਕਟੀ ਮਿਹਡੀ ਜੇਵੜੀ ॥
gur kattee mihaddee jevarree |
The Guru has cut away my bonds.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ) ਫਾਹੀ ਕੱਟ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਉ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਛਿੰਝ ਨ ਨਚਊ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਉਸਰੁ ਲਧਾ ਭਾਲਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੨੧॥੨॥੨੯॥
hau baahurr chhinjh na nchaoo naanak aausar ladhaa bhaal jeeo |21|2|29|
I shall not have to dance in the wrestling arena of life again. Nanak has searched, and found this opportunity. ||21||2||29||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ) ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਇਸ ਜਗਤ-ਅਖਾੜੇ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਫਿਰਾਂਗਾ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਢੂੰਢ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ ਮੌਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੨੧॥੨॥੨੯॥{73-74}
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਪਹਰੇ ਘਰੁ ੧ ॥

ਪਹਿਲੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਰੈਣਿ ਕੈ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਪਇਆ ਗਰਭਾਸਿ ॥
pahilai paharai rain kai vanajaariaa mitraa hukam peaa garabhaas |
In the first watch of the night, O my merchant friend, you were cast into the womb, by the Lord's Command.
ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਵਣਜ ਕਰਨ ਆਏ ਹੇ ਜੀਵ-ਮਿਤ੍ਰ! (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ) ਰਾਤ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਪਹਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਤੂੰ ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਉਰਧ ਤਪੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਖਸਮ ਸੇਤੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
auradh tap antar kare vanajaariaa mitraa khasam setee aradaas |
Upside-down, within the womb, you performed penance, O my merchant friend, and you prayed to your Lord and Master.
ਹੇ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ-ਮਿਤ੍ਰ! ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਪੁੱਠਾ ਲਟਕ ਕੇ ਤਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ, ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਦਾਸਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ।
ਖਸਮ ਸੇਤੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਉਰਧ ਧਿਆਨਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
khasam setee aradaas vakhaanai uradh dhiaan liv laagaa |
You uttered prayers to your Lord and Master, while upside-down, and you meditated on Him with deep love and affection.
(ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵ) ਪੁੱਠਾ (ਲਟਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ) ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਧਿਆਨ ਵਿਚ (ਜੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ), (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾ ਮਰਜਾਦੁ ਆਇਆ ਕਲਿ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਜਾਸੀ ਨਾਗਾ ॥
naa marajaad aaeaa kal bheetar baahurr jaasee naagaa |
You came into this Dark Age of Kali Yuga naked, and you shall depart again naked.
ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਨੰਗਾ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੁੜ (ਇਥੋਂ) ਨੰਗਾ (ਹੀ) ਚਲਾ ਜਾਇਗਾ।
ਜੈਸੀ ਕਲਮ ਵੁੜੀ ਹੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਤੈਸੀ ਜੀਅੜੇ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
jaisee kalam vurree hai masatak taisee jeearre paas |
As God's Pen has written on your forehead, so it shall be with your soul.
ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ (ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਕਲਮ ਚੱਲਦੀ ਹੈ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਣ ਵੇਲੇ) ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਹੀ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਸ ਪੂੰਜੀ) ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਪਹਿਲੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਪਇਆ ਗਰਭਾਸਿ ॥੧॥
kahu naanak praanee pahilai paharai hukam peaa garabhaas |1|
Says Nanak, in the first watch of the night, by the Hukam of the Lord's Command, you enter into the womb. ||1||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਜੀਵ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਦੇ) ਪਹਿਲੇ ਪਹਰ ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਲਿਆ ॥੧॥
