ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਜਗੁ ਦੁਖੀਆ ਫਿਰੈ ਮਨਮੁਖਾ ਨੋ ਗਈ ਖਾਇ ॥
bin sabadai jag dukheea firai manamukhaa no gee khaae |
Without the Shabad, the world wanders lost in pain. The self-willed manmukh is consumed.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਗਤ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਦੁਖੀ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਗ੍ਰਸੀ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਬਦੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਬਦੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥
sabade naam dhiaaeeai sabade sach samaae |4|
Through the Shabad, meditate on the Naam through the Shabad, you shall merge in Truth. ||4||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਭੂਲੇ ਸਿਧ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
maaeaa bhoole sidh fireh samaadh na lagai subhaae |
The Siddhas wander around, deluded by Maya they are not absorbed in the Samaadhi of the Lord's Sublime Love.
(ਸਾਧਾਰਨ ਬੰਦੇ ਤਾਂ ਕਿਤੇ ਰਹੇ, ਜੋਗ-ਸਾਧਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਪੁੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੋਗੀ ਭੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਹੇਠ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੁੜਦੀ।
ਤੀਨੇ ਲੋਅ ਵਿਆਪਤ ਹੈ ਅਧਿਕ ਰਹੀ ਲਪਟਾਇ ॥
teene loa viaapat hai adhik rahee lapattaae |
The three worlds are permeated by Maya they are totally covered by it.
ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਭਵਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਗ਼ਲਬਾ ਪਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ) ਬਹੁਤ ਚੰਬੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥੫॥
bin gur mukat na paaeeai naa dubidhaa maaeaa jaae |5|
Without the Guru, liberation is not attained, and the double-mindedness of Maya does not go away. ||5||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ) ਖਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦੀ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਵਿਤਕਰਾ ਭੀ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ॥੫॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਖੀਐ ਕਿਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
maaeaa kis no aakheeai kiaa maaeaa karam kamaae |
What is called Maya? What does Maya do?
(ਜੇ ਪੁੱਛੋ ਕਿ) ਮਾਇਆ ਕਿਸ ਚੀਜ਼ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੈ? (ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਕੀਹ ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈ? ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇਹੜੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ?
ਦੁਖਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਏਹੁ ਜੀਉ ਬਧੁ ਹੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
dukh sukh ehu jeeo badh hai haumai karam kamaae |
These beings are bound by pleasure and pain they do their deeds in egotism.
(ਤਾਂ ਉੱਤਰ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਹੇਠ) ਇਹ ਜੀਵ ਦੁੱਖ (ਦੀ ਨਿਵਿਰਤੀ) ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ (ਦੀ ਲਾਲਸਾ) ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ 'ਮੈਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਹਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਵਾਂ' ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਚੂਕਈ ਨਾ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੬॥
bin sabadai bharam na chookee naa vichahu haumai jaae |6|
Without the Shabad, doubt is not dispelled, and egotism is not eliminated from within. ||6||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੀਵ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮੁੱਕਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮੈਂ-ਮੇਰੀ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
bin preetee bhagat na hovee bin sabadai thaae na paae |
Without love, there is no devotional worship. Without the Shabad, no one finds acceptance.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪੈਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਤੇ) ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਜੀਵ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ, (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਜੀਵ ਕਬੂਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
ਸਬਦੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀਐ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
sabade haumai maareeai maaeaa kaa bhram jaae |
Through the Shabad, egotism is conquered and subdued, and the illusion of Maya is dispelled.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਹਉਮੈ (ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਮਾਰੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਈ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੭॥
naam padaarath paaeeai guramukh sehaj subhaae |7|
The Gurmukh obtains the Treasure of the Naam with intuitive ease. ||7||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਕੀਮਤੀ ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਗੁਣ ਨ ਜਾਪਨੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
bin gur gun na jaapanee bin gun bhagat na hoe |
Without the Guru, one's virtues do not shine forth without virtue, there is no devotional worship.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉੱਚੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ, ਤੇ, ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
bhagat vachhal har man vasiaa sehaj miliaa prabh soe |
The Lord is the Lover of His devotees He abides within their minds. They meet that God with intuitive ease.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ) ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ (ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੮॥੪॥੨੧॥
naanak sabade har saalaaheeai karam paraapat hoe |8|4|21|
O Nanak, through the Shabad, praise the Lord. By His Grace, He is obtained. ||8||4||21||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ। (ਪਰ ਇਹ ਦਾਤਿ) ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੪॥੨੧॥{66-67}

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਨਾ ਆਪੇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ॥
maaeaa mohu merai prabh keenaa aape bharam bhulaae |
Emotional attachment to Maya is created by my God He Himself misleads us through illusion and doubt.
ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ (ਆਪ ਹੀ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਹਿ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
manamukh karam kareh nahee boojheh birathaa janam gavaae |
The self-willed manmukhs perform their actions, but they do not understand they waste away their lives in vain.
(ਉਸ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਹੋਏ) ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਿੱਥੇ ਹੋਏ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ) ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ (ਇਹ) ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦੇ (ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਾਂ)। (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ) ਜਨਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਵਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਕਰਮਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਏ ॥੧॥
gurabaanee is jag meh chaanan karam vasai man aae |1|
Gurbani is the Light to illuminate this world by His Grace, it comes to abide within the mind. ||1||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿਚ) ਚਾਨਣ (ਕਰਦੀ) ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਬਾਣੀ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ (ਹੀ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਮਨ ਰੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
man re naam japahu sukh hoe |
O mind, chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and find peace.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ, (ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur pooraa saalaaheeai sehaj milai prabh soe |1| rahaau |
Praising the Perfect Guru, you shall easily meet with that God. ||1||Pause||
(ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਧੰਨ ਧੰਨ ਆਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਭਰਮੁ ਗਇਆ ਭਉ ਭਾਗਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
bharam geaa bhau bhaagiaa har charanee chit laae |
Doubt departs, and fear runs away, when you focus your consciousness on the Lord's Feet.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ (ਮਨ ਦੀ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ) ਡਰ ਨੱਸ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
guramukh sabad kamaaeeai har vasai man aae |
The Gurmukh practices the Shabad, and the Lord comes to dwell within the mind.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਕਮਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਭਾਵ, ਸ਼ਬਦ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਿਤਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਘਰਿ ਮਹਲਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਖਾਇ ॥੨॥
ghar mehal sach samaaeeai jamakaal na sakai khaae |2|
In the mansion of the home within the self, we merge in Truth, and the Messenger of Death cannot devour us. ||2||
ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ (ਸੁਚੱਜੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ) ਖਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ ॥੨॥
ਨਾਮਾ ਛੀਬਾ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਜੋੁਲਾਹਾ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
naamaa chheebaa kabeer juolaahaa poore gur te gat paaee |
Naam Dayv the printer, and Kabeer the weaver, obtained salvation through the Perfect Guru.
(ਵੇਖੋ) ਨਾਮ ਦੇਵ (ਜਾਤਿ ਦਾ) ਛੀਂਬਾ (ਸੀ) ਕਬੀਰ ਜੁਲਾਹਾ (ਸੀ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤੀ,
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੇ ਬੇਤੇ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
braham ke bete sabad pachhaaneh haumai jaat gavaaee |
Those who know God and recognize His Shabad lose their ego and class consciousness.
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਗਏ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈ, (ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਬੀ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਭਾਈ ॥੩॥
sur nar tin kee baanee gaaveh koe na mettai bhaaee |3|
Their Banis are sung by the angelic beings, and no one can erase them, O Siblings of Destiny! ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਹੁਣ) ਦੇਵਤੇ ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ (ਉਚਾਰੀ ਹੋਈ) ਬਾਣੀ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕੋਈ ਬੰਦਾ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲੀ ਹੋਈ ਇਸ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਟਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੩॥
ਦੈਤ ਪੁਤੁ ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੰਜਮ ਨ ਪੜੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
dait put karam dharam kichh sanjam na parrai doojaa bhaau na jaanai |
The demon's son Prahlaad had not read about religious rituals or ceremonies, austerity or self-discipline he did not know the love of duality.
(ਹਰਨਾਖਸ਼) ਦੈਂਤ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ (ਭਗਤ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਮਿੱਥੇ ਹੋਏ) ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਤੇ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਕਰਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਜੁਗਤੀਆਂ ਦੱਸਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਕੋਈ ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ (ਦੇਵਤੇ ਆਦਿਕ) ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ (ਕਰਨਾ) ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਐ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥
satigur bhettiai niramal hoaa anadin naam vakhaanai |
Upon meeting with the True Guru, he became pure night and day, he chanted the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਣ (ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ) ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ (ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ।
ਏਕੋ ਪੜੈ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਉ ਬੂਝੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ॥੪॥
eko parrai eko naau boojhai doojaa avar na jaanai |4|
He read only of the One and he understood only the One Name he knew no other at all. ||4||
ਉਹ ਇਕ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਸੀ, ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਸੀ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨੂੰ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਰਗਾ) ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ॥੪॥
ਖਟੁ ਦਰਸਨ ਜੋਗੀ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ॥
khatt darasan jogee saniaasee bin gur bharam bhulaae |
The followers of the six different life-styles and world-views, the Yogis and the Sanyaasees have gone astray in doubt without the Guru.
ਜੋਗੀ (ਹੋਣ) ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ (ਹੋਣ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ) ਛੇ ਭੇਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਧ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਤਾ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
satigur seveh taa gat mit paaveh har jeeo man vasaae |
If they serve the True Guru, they find the state of salvation they enshrine the Dear Lord within their minds.
ਜਦੋਂ (ਇਹ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਕੇ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਤੇ (ਸਹੀ) ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣੁ ਰਹਾਏ ॥੫॥
sachee baanee siau chit laagai aavan jaan rahaae |5|
They focus their consciousness on the True Bani, and their comings and goings in reincarnation are over. ||5||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਚਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਮੁਕਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਵਾਦੁ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ॥
panddit parr parr vaad vakhaaneh bin gur bharam bhulaae |
The Pandits, the religious scholars, read and argue and stir up controversies, but without the Guru, they are deluded by doubt.
ਪੰਡਿਤ (ਲੋਕ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਆਦਿਕ) ਪੜ੍ਹ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ (ਨਿਰੀ) ਚਰਚਾ (ਹੀ) ਕਰਦੇ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਉਹ ਭੀ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਫੇਰੁ ਪਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
lakh chauraaseeh fer peaa bin sabadai mukat na paae |
They wander around the cycle of 8.4 million reincarnations without the Shabad, they do not attain liberation.
(ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ, (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਾ ਨਾਉ ਚੇਤੈ ਤਾ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਏ ਜਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੬॥
jaa naau chetai taa gat paae jaa satigur mel milaae |6|
But when they remember the Name, then they attain the state of salvation, when the True Guru unites them in Union. ||6||
ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਉਪਜੈ ਜਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥
satasangat meh naam har upajai jaa satigur milai subhaae |
In the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, the Name of the Lord wells up, when the True Guru unites us in His Sublime Love.
ਜਦੋਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਸਤਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
