ਜਉ ਲਗੁ ਜੀਉ ਪਰਾਣ ਸਚੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
jau lag jeeo paraan sach dhiaaeeai |
As long as there is the breath of life, meditate on the True Lord.
ਜਦੋਂ ਤਕ (ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ) ਜਿੰਦ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸੁਆਸ ਹਨ (ਤਦ ਤਕ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
laahaa har gun gaae milai sukh paaeeai |1| rahaau |
You shall receive the profit of singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and find peace. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਕੇ (ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ-ਰੂਪ ਲਾਭ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਚੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਾਰ ਦੇਹਿ ਦਇਆਲ ਤੂੰ ॥
sachee teree kaar dehi deaal toon |
True is Your Service bless me with it, O Merciful Lord.
ਹੇ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ (ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ) ਕਾਰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ (ਇਹ ਕਾਰ ਐਸੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਉਕਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਹਉ ਜੀਵਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਮੈ ਟੇਕ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਤੂੰ ॥੨॥
hau jeevaa tudh saalaeh mai ttek adhaar toon |2|
I live by praising You You are my Anchor and Support. ||2||
ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੇਰਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪਲਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਟੇਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੨॥
ਦਰਿ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਦਰਵਾਨੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਣਹੀ ॥
dar sevak daravaan darad toon jaanahee |
I am Your servant, the gate-keeper at Your Gate You alone know my pain.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰ ਮੱਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਉਸ (ਦੇ ਦਿਲ) ਦਾ ਦੁਖ-ਦਰਦ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਭਗਤਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੈਰਾਨੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਗਵਾਵਹੀ ॥੩॥
bhagat teree hairaan darad gavaavahee |3|
How wonderful is Your devotional worship! It removes all pains. ||3||
ਜਗਤ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦੁਖ-ਦਰਦ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੩॥
ਦਰਗਹ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਦੂਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਣਸੀ ॥
daragah naam hadoor guramukh jaanasee |
The Gurmukhs know that by chanting the Naam, they shall dwell in His Court, in His Presence.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (-ਸਿਮਰਨ) ਹੀ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਵੇਲਾ ਸਚੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣਸੀ ॥੪॥
velaa sach paravaan sabad pachhaanasee |4|
True and acceptable is that time, when one recognizes the Word of the Shabad. ||4||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਮਾ ਸਫਲ ਹੈ, ਕਬੂਲ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਕਰਿ ਭਾਉ ਤੋਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੇਇ ॥
sat santokh kar bhaau tosaa har naam see |
Those who practice Truth, contentment and love, obtain the supplies of the Lord's Name.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁਖ ਸਤ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਰਚ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਮਨਹੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਦੇਇ ॥੫॥
manahu chhodd vikaar sachaa sach dee |5|
So banish corruption from your mind, and the True One will grant you Truth. ||5||
ਤੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਸਚੇ ਸਚਾ ਨੇਹੁ ਸਚੈ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
sache sachaa nehu sachai laaeaa |
The True Lord inspires true love in the truthful.
(ਜੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਲੱਗਾ ਹੈ (ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਆਉ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੬॥
aape kare niaau jo tis bhaaeaa |6|
He Himself administers justice, as it pleases His Will. ||6||
ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਨਿਆਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇਣੀ ਹੈ), ਜੋ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹੀ ਨਿਆਂ ਹੈ) ॥੬॥
ਸਚੇ ਸਚੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹੈ ॥
sache sachee daat dehi deaal hai |
True is the gift of the True, Compassionate Lord.
ਮੈਂ (ਭੀ) ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਸੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਮੋਲੁ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
tis sevee din raat naam amol hai |7|
Day and night, I serve the One whose Name is priceless. ||7||
(ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ-) ਹੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇਹ, ਇਹ ਦਾਤ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਤੂੰ ਉਤਮੁ ਹਉ ਨੀਚੁ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਕਾਂਢੀਆ ॥
toon utam hau neech sevak kaandteea |
You are so sublime, and I am so lowly, but I am called Your slave.
ਤੂੰ ਉੱਤਮ ਹੈਂ, ਮੈਂ ਨੀਚ ਹਾਂ (ਪਰ ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ) ਸੇਵਕ ਅਖਵਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਹੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਚੁ ਵਾਂਢੀਆ ॥੮॥੨੧॥
naanak nadar karehu milai sach vaandteea |8|21|
Please, shower Nanak with Your Glance of Grace, that he, the separated one, may merge with You again, O Lord. ||8||21||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਇਉਂ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ-ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰ, (ਤਾਂ ਕਿ) ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ ॥੮॥੨੧॥

ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਕਿਉ ਰਹੈ ਕਿਉ ਮੇਲਾ ਹੋਈ ॥
aavan jaanaa kiau rahai kiau melaa hoee |
How can coming and going, the cycle of reincarnation be ended? And how can one meet the Lord?
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਕਦਾ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ,
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਘਣੋ ਨਿਤ ਸਹਸਾ ਦੋਈ ॥੧॥
janam maran kaa dukh ghano nit sahasaa doee |1|
The pain of birth and death is so great, in constant skepticism and duality. ||1||
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਭਾਰਾ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ (ਜਿੰਦ ਨੂੰ) ਨਿੱਤ ਸਹਮ (ਖਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ) ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਿਆ ਜੀਵਨਾ ਫਿਟੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
bin naavai kiaa jeevanaa fitt dhrig chaturaaee |
Without the Name, what is life? Cleverness is detestable and cursed.
ਜੋ (ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜਿਆ ਰਿਹਾ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜੀਊਣਾ ਅਸਲ ਜੀਊਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, (ਜੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁਨੀਆਦਾਰੀ ਵਾਲੀ ਕੋਈ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਵਿਖਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਐਸੀ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਫਿਟਕਾਰਜੋਗ ਹੈ,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਾਧੁ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
satigur saadh na seviaa har bhagat na bhaaee |1| rahaau |
One who does not serve the Holy True Guru, is not pleased by devotion to the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਦੱਸੀ) ਸੇਵਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ, ਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਵਣੁ ਤਉ ਰਹੈ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
aavan jaavan tau rahai paaeeai gur pooraa |
Coming and going is ended only when one finds the True Guru.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਚੱਕਰ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਮੁੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਸਿ ਦੇਇ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਕੂਰਾ ॥੨॥
raam naam dhan raas dee binasai bhram kooraa |2|
He gives the wealth and capital of the Lord's Name, and false doubt is destroyed. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ (ਰੂਪ) ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਝੂਠੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਉ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੈ ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਏ ॥
sant janaa kau mil rahai dhan dhan jas gaae |
Joining the humble Saintly beings, let us sing the blessed, blessed Praises of the Lord.
ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸ਼ੁਕਰ ਸ਼ੁਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਪਰੰਪਰਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਏ ॥੩॥
aad purakh aparanparaa guramukh har paae |3|
The Primal Lord, the Infinite, is obtained by the Gurmukh. ||3||
ਉਹ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ ਸਰਬ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਨਟੂਐ ਸਾਂਗੁ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਬਾਜੀ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
nattooai saang banaaeaa baajee sansaaraa |
The drama of the world is staged like the show of a buffoon.
ਇਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਮਦਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਟਕ ਵਾਂਗ ਇਕ ਖੇਡ (ਹੀ) ਹੈ,
ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਬਾਜੀ ਦੇਖੀਐ ਉਝਰਤ ਨਹੀ ਬਾਰਾ ॥੪॥
khin pal baajee dekheeai ujharat nahee baaraa |4|
For an instant, for a moment, the show is seen, but it disappears in no time at all. ||4||
ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੀਵਨ ਘੜੀ ਪਲ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਉਜੜਦਿਆਂ ਚਿਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ॥੪॥
ਹਉਮੈ ਚਉਪੜਿ ਖੇਲਣਾ ਝੂਠੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥
haumai chauparr khelanaa jhootthe ahankaaraa |
The game of chance is played on the board of egotism, with the pieces of falsehood and ego.
ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮੈਂ ਵੱਡਾ, ਮੈਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਵਾਂ-ਇਸ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਖੇਡ, ਝੂਠ ਤੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ (ਦੀਆਂ ਨਰਦਾਂ) ਨਾਲ ਖੇਡ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਹਾਰੈ ਸੋ ਜਿਣੈ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੫॥
sabh jag haarai so jinai gurasabad veechaaraa |5|
The whole world loses he alone wins, who reflects upon the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||5||
ਤੇ ਇੰਜ ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ (ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ) ਹਾਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਿੱਤਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ-ਮੰਡਲ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਜਿਉ ਅੰਧੁਲੈ ਹਥਿ ਟੋਹਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ॥
jiau andhulai hath ttohanee har naam hamaarai |
As is the cane in the hand of the blind man, so is the Lord's Name for me.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਡੰਗੋਰੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਟੋਹ ਟੋਹ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਰਾਹ-ਖਹਿੜਾ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਹੈ), ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਹੈ (ਜੋ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਰਾਹ ਵਿਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਟੇਕ ਹੈ ਨਿਸਿ ਦਉਤ ਸਵਾਰੈ ॥੬॥
raam naam har ttek hai nis daut savaarai |6|
The Lord's Name is my Support, night and day and morning. ||6||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਇਕ ਐਸਾ) ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਤ (ਆਤਮਕ ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ) ਲਈ ਸਵੇਰ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਾਡੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੬॥
ਜਿਉ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਤਿਉ ਰਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥
jiau toon raakheh tiau rahaa har naam adhaaraa |
As You keep me, Lord, I live the Lord's Name is my only Support.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਉਸੇ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾ, ਜਿਸ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਰੱਖੇਂ।
ਅੰਤਿ ਸਖਾਈ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥੭॥
ant sakhaaee paaeaa jan mukat duaaraa |7|
It is my only comfort in the end the gate of salvation is found by His humble servants. ||7||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਤਕ ਨਾਲ ਨਿਭਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਇਹ ਸਾਥੀ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਰਾਹ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖ ਮੇਟਿਆ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ॥
janam maran dukh mettiaa jap naam muraare |
The pain of birth and death is removed, by chanting and meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਦਾ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਤਾਰੇ ॥੮॥੨੨॥
naanak naam na veesarai pooraa gur taare |8|22|
O Nanak, one who does not forget the Naam, is saved by the Perfect Guru. ||8||22||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਭੁੱਲਦਾ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੨੨॥

ਸਾਸਤੁ ਬੇਦੁ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਰੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਸੁਰਸਰੀ ਚਰਣ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥
saasat bed sinmrit sar teraa surasaree charan samaanee |
The Shaastras, the Vedas and the Simritees are contained in the ocean of Your Name the River Ganges is held in Your Feet.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ-ਸਰੋਵਰ (ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਵੇਦ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੀਆਂ (ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ) ਹੈ, ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨਤਾ (ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਗੰਗਾ (ਆਦਿਕ ਤੀਰਥ ਦਾ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ) ਹੈ।
ਸਾਖਾ ਤੀਨਿ ਮੂਲੁ ਮਤਿ ਰਾਵੈ ਤੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਸਰਬ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ॥੧॥
saakhaa teen mool mat raavai toon taan sarab viddaanee |1|
The intellect can understand the world of the three modes, but You, O Primal Lord, are totally astounding. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਸਾਰੇ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਤ੍ਰਿਗੁਣੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਕਰਤਾ ਹੈਂ। ਮੇਰੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ (ਤੇਰੀ ਯਾਦ ਦੇ ਅਨੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ) ਮਾਣਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਤਾ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਜਪੈ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੋਲੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Servant Nanak meditates on His Feet, and chants the Ambrosial Word of His Bani. ||1||Pause||
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ) ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤੇਤੀਸ ਕਰੋੜੀ ਦਾਸ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੇ ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਅਧਾਰੀ ॥
tetees karorree daas tumaare ridh sidh praan adhaaree |
Three hundred thirty million gods are Your servants. You bestow wealth, and the supernatural powers of the Siddhas You are the Support of the breath of life.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਿਥੇ ਹੋਏ) ਤੇਤੀ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਵੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਰਿੱਧੀਆਂ ਸਿੱਧੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ।
