ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੀ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਈ ॥

The Perfect Guru has fashioned His perfect fashion.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਉਕਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਰਚਨਾ ਭੀ ਉਕਾਈ-ਹੀਣ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤ ਮਿਲੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੪॥੨੪॥

O Nanak, the Lord's devotees are blessed with glorious greatness. ||4||24||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨੪॥

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਬਨਾਵਹੁ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ॥
gur kai sabad banaavahu ihu man |
I have shaped this mind in the mold of the Guru's Word.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਨਵੇਂ ਸਿਰੇ ਘੜੋ।
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਸੰਚਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ॥੧॥
gur kaa darasan sanchahu har dhan |1|
Beholding the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan, I have gathered the wealth of the Lord. ||1||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੀ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰੋ ॥੧॥
ਊਤਮ ਮਤਿ ਮੇਰੈ ਰਿਦੈ ਤੂੰ ਆਉ ॥
aootam mat merai ridai toon aau |
O sublime understanding, come, enter into my mind,
ਹੇ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਮਤਿ! (ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ) ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆ ਵੱਸ,
ਧਿਆਵਉ ਗਾਵਉ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਵਿੰਦਾ ਅਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮੋਹਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਨਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dhiaavau gaavau gun govindaa at preetam mohi laagai naau |1| rahaau |
that I may meditate and sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe, and love so dearly the Lord's Name. ||1||Pause||
ਤਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗ ਪਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਵਨੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥
tripat aghaavan saachai naae |
I am satisfied and satiated by the True Name.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਅਠਾਹਠ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਹੈ।
ਅਠਸਠਿ ਮਜਨੁ ਸੰਤ ਧੂਰਾਇ ॥੨॥
atthasatth majan sant dhooraae |2|
My cleansing bath at the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage is the dust of the Saints. ||2||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਮਨ ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਜਾਨਉ ਕਰਤਾ ਏਕ ॥
sabh meh jaanau karataa ek |
I recognize that the One Creator is contained in all.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਬਿਬੇਕ ॥੩॥
saadhasangat mil budh bibek |3|
Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, my understanding is refined. ||3||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਚੰਗੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਦੀ ਪਰਖ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਕਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਈ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਦਾਸੁ ਸਗਲ ਕਾ ਛੋਡਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
daas sagal kaa chhodd abhimaan |
I have become the servant of all I have renounced my ego and pride.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮੈਂ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਨੋ ਦਾਨੁ ॥੪॥੨੫॥
naanak kau gur deeno daan |4|25|
The Guru has given this gift to Nanak. ||4||25||
(ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਬਿਬੇਕ ਬੁਧਿ ਦੀ ਅਜੇਹੀ) ਦਾਤਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ ॥੪॥੨੫॥

ਬੁਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਭਈ ਮਤਿ ਪੂਰੀ ॥
budh pragaas bhee mat pooree |
My intellect has been enlightened, and my understanding is perfect.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੀ) ਬੁੱਧੀ ਵਿਚ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਮੇਰੀ ਅਕਲ ਉਕਾਈ-ਹੀਣ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ,
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਬਿਨਸੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੂਰੀ ॥੧॥
taa te binasee duramat dooree |1|
Thus my evil-mindedness, which kept me far from Him, has been removed. ||1||
ਇਸ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੀ ਭੈੜੀ ਮਤਿ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਿੱਥ ਮਿਟ ਗਈ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਐਸੀ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਈਅਲੇ ॥

Such are the Teachings which I have received from the Guru
ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਅਜੇਹੀ ਮਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਈ ਹੈ,
ਬੂਡਤ ਘੋਰ ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਮਹਿ ਨਿਕਸਿਓ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
booddat ghor andh koop meh nikasio mere bhaaee re |1| rahaau |
while I was drowning in the pitch black well, I was saved, O my Siblings of Destiny. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੀਰ! ਮੈਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਖੂਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਡੁਬਦਾ ਡੁਬਦਾ ਬਚ ਨਿਕਲਿਆ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮਹਾ ਅਗਾਹ ਅਗਨਿ ਕਾ ਸਾਗਰੁ ॥
mahaa agaah agan kaa saagar |
The Guru is the boat to cross over the totally unfathomable ocean of fire
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ) ਅੱਗ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਬੜਾ ਅਥਾਹ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰੁ ਬੋਹਿਥੁ ਤਾਰੇ ਰਤਨਾਗਰੁ ॥੨॥
gur bohith taare ratanaagar |2|
He is treasure of jewels. ||2||
ਰਤਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਖਾਣ ਗੁਰੂ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਹੈ ਜੋ (ਇਸ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਦੁਤਰ ਅੰਧ ਬਿਖਮ ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
dutar andh bikham ih maaeaa |
This ocean of Maya is dark and treacherous.
ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ (ਮਾਨੋ, ਇਕ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣਾ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਹੈ
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
gur poorai paragatt maarag dikhaaeaa |3|
The Perfect Guru has revealed the way to cross over it. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਵੀਰ! ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣ ਲਈ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਾਫ਼ ਰਸਤਾ ਵਿਖਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਜਾਪ ਤਾਪ ਕਛੁ ਉਕਤਿ ਨ ਮੋਰੀ ॥
jaap taap kachh ukat na moree |
I do not have the ability to chant or practice intense meditation.
ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਸ ਕੋਈ ਜਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੋਈ ਤਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੋਈ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਨਹੀਂ,
ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਤੋਰੀ ॥੪॥੨੬॥
gur naanak saranaagat toree |4|26|
Guru Nanak seeks Your Sanctuary. ||4||26||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਖੂਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੱਢ ਲੈ) ॥੪॥੨੬॥

ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵਤ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
har ras peevat sad hee raataa |
One who drinks in the Lord's sublime essence is forever imbued with it,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪੀਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ) ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਨ ਰਸਾ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
aan rasaa khin meh leh jaataa |
while other essences wear off in an instant.
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਦਾ ਅਸਰ ਕਦੇ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ) ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਰਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਸਰ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਤਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਕੇ ਮਾਤੇ ਮਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ॥
har ras ke maate man sadaa anand |
Intoxicated with the Lord's sublime essence, the mind is forever in ecstasy.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਦੇ ਮਤਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਨ ਰਸਾ ਮਹਿ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਚਿੰਦ ॥੧॥
aan rasaa meh viaapai chind |1|
Other essences bring only anxiety. ||1||
ਪਰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਵਾਦਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਂ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਆ ਦਬਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਅਲਮਸਤੁ ਮਤਵਾਰਾ ॥
har ras peevai alamasat matavaaraa |
One who drinks in the Lord's sublime essence, is intoxicated and enraptured
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਪੂਰਨ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਦਾ ਆਸ਼ਿਕ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਨ ਰਸਾ ਸਭਿ ਹੋਛੇ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aan rasaa sabh hochhe re |1| rahaau |
all other essences have no effect. ||1||Pause||
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਰਸ (ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ) ਫਿੱਕੇ ਜਾਪਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
har ras kee keemat kahee na jaae |
The value of the Lord's sublime essence cannot be described.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਦੇ ਵੱਟੇ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ (ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਕਲ ਵਿਚ) ਬਿਆਨ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਹਾਟਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
har ras saadhoo haatt samaae |
The Lord's sublime essence permeates the homes of the Holy.
ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹੱਟ ਵਿਚ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ) ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਲਾਖ ਕਰੋਰੀ ਮਿਲੈ ਨ ਕੇਹ ॥
laakh karoree milai na keh |
One may spend thousands and millions, but it cannot be purchased.
ਲੱਖਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਰੁਪਏ ਦਿੱਤਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਇਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਦੇਹਿ ॥੨॥
jiseh paraapat tis hee dehi |2|
He alone obtains it, who is so pre-ordained. ||2||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਲਿਖੀ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੨॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਚਾਖਿ ਭਏ ਬਿਸਮਾਦੁ ॥
naanak chaakh bhe bisamaad |
Tasting it, Nanak is wonder-struck.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ) ਚੱਖ ਕੇ (ਕੋਈ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਸਵਾਦ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ। ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਜਤਨ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ) ਹੈਰਾਨ ਪਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਰਸ ਦਾ ਅਸਰ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਅਸਮਰਥ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਆਇਆ ਸਾਦੁ ॥
naanak gur te aaeaa saad |
Through the Guru, Nanak has obtained this taste.
ਇਸ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਈਤ ਊਤ ਕਤ ਛੋਡਿ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
eet aoot kat chhodd na jaae |
Here and hereafter, it does not leave him.
(ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਵਾਰੀ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਉਹ) ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ (ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਹੋਰ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ਇਸ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੀਧਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਮਾਹਿ ॥੩॥੨੭॥
naanak geedhaa har ras maeh |3|27|
Nanak is imbued and enraptured with the Lord's subtle essence. ||3||27||
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥੨੭॥

ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਮਿਟਾਵੈ ਛੁਟਕੈ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
kaam krodh lobh mohu mittaavai chhuttakai duramat apunee dhaaree |
If she renounces and eliminates her sexual desire, anger, greed and attachment, and her evil-mindedness and self-conceit as well
ਹੇ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ! (ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਟਾ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ, ਤੇਰੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਭੈੜੀ ਮਤਿ (ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਇਗੀ।
ਹੋਇ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਸੇਵ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਤਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਮਨਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥੧॥
hoe nimaanee sev kamaaveh taa preetam hoveh man piaaree |1|
and if, becoming humble, she serves Him, then she becomes dear to her Beloved's Heart. ||1||
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਮਾਣ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰੇਂਗੀ, ਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗੇਂਗੀ ॥੧॥
ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਬਚਨ ਉਧਾਰੀ ॥
sun sundar saadhoo bachan udhaaree |
Listen, O beautiful soul-bride: By the Word of the Holy Saint, you shall be saved.
ਹੇ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ! ਹੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਟਿਕਾਈ ਰੱਖਣ ਦੀ ਚਾਹਵਾਨ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਣ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ।
ਦੂਖ ਭੂਖ ਮਿਟੈ ਤੇਰੋ ਸਹਸਾ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਖਮਨਿ ਨਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dookh bhookh mittai tero sahasaa sukh paaveh toon sukhaman naaree |1| rahaau |
Your pain, hunger and doubt shall vanish, and you shall obtain peace, O happy soul-bride. ||1||Pause||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਤੇਰਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਇਗਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਇਗੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਨੰਦ ਮਾਣੇਂਗੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਚਰਣ ਪਖਾਰਿ ਕਰਉ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਆਤਮ ਸੁਧੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਤਿਆਸ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ॥
charan pakhaar krau gur sevaa aatam sudh bikh tiaas nivaaree |
Washing the Guru's feet, and serving Him, the soul is sanctified, and the thirst for sin is quenched.
ਹੇ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਧੋ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਦੱਸੀ) ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ, ਤੇਰਾ ਆਤਮਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ (ਇਹ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਾਇਆ-ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਜ਼ਹਰ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਟਾ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ।
ਦਾਸਨ ਕੀ ਹੋਇ ਦਾਸਿ ਦਾਸਰੀ ਤਾ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਹਰਿ ਦੁਆਰੀ ॥੨॥
daasan kee hoe daas daasaree taa paaveh sobhaa har duaaree |2|
If you become the slave of the slave of the Lord's slaves, then you shall obtain honor in the Court of the Lord. ||2||
(ਹੇ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ!) ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਏਂ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਜਿਹੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਏਂ ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਭਾ-ਆਦਰ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰੇਂਗੀ ॥੨॥
ਇਹੀ ਅਚਾਰ ਇਹੀ ਬਿਉਹਾਰਾ ਆਗਿਆ ਮਾਨਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੀ ॥
eihee achaar ihee biauhaaraa aagiaa maan bhagat hoe tumaaree |
This is right conduct, and this is the correct lifestyle, to obey the Command of the Lord's Will this is your devotional worship.
(ਹੇ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ!) ਇਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਰਸਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ ਇਹੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਿੱਤ ਦਾ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰ-ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਮੰਨ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ) ਤੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਭਗਤੀ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਦਰ ਤੇ ਪਰਵਾਨ) ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗੀ।
ਜੋ ਇਹੁ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੀ ॥੩॥੨੮॥
jo ihu mantru kamaavai naanak so bhaujal paar utaaree |3|28|
One who practices this Mantra, O Nanak, swims across the terrifying world-ocean. ||3||28||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਕਮਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥੨੮॥
