ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤੀ ਜਗੁ ਫਿਰੀ ਨਾ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਪੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
hau hau karatee jag firee naa dhan sanpai naal |
Practicing egotism, selfishness and conceit, she wanders around the world, but her wealth and property will not go with her.
(ਲੁਕਾਈ ਆਮ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ) ਮਮਤਾ-ਜਲ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੀ ਹੋਈ (ਸਾਰਾ) ਜਗਤ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ਭਾਲਦੀ ਫਿਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ (ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕੀਤਾ) ਧਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ।
ਅੰਧੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਈ ਸਭ ਬਾਧੀ ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ॥
andhee naam na chetee sabh baadhee jamakaal |
The spiritually blind do not even think of the Naam they are all bound and gagged by the Messenger of Death.
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਹੋਈ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦੀ (ਸਿਮਰਨ-ਹੀਨ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਨੂੰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਧਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੩॥
satagur miliai dhan paaeaa har naamaa ridai samaal |3|
Meeting the True Guru, the wealth is obtained, contemplating the Name of the Lord in the heart. ||3||
ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਂਭੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥

Those who are attuned to the Naam are immaculate and pure through the Guru, they obtain intuitive peace and poise.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ (-ਰੰਗ) ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ (ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ) ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਰਸਨਾ ਰਸਨ ਰਸਾਇ ॥
man tan raataa rang siau rasanaa rasan rasaae |
Their minds and bodies are dyed in the Color of the Lord's Love, and their tongues savor His Sublime Essence.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਰਸੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਧੁਰਿ ਛੋਡਿਆ ਲਾਇ ॥੪॥੧੪॥੪੭॥
naanak rang na utarai jo har dhur chhoddiaa laae |4|14|47|
O Nanak, that Primal Color which the Lord has applied, shall never fade away. ||4||14||47||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਧੁਰੋਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗ ਚਾੜ੍ਹ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਰੰਗ ਕਦੇ ਉਤਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ॥੪॥੧੪॥੪੭॥{31-32}

Siree Raag, Third Mehl:
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕੀਜੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
guramukh kripaa kare bhagat keejai bin gur bhagat na hoee |
By His Grace one becomes Gurmukh, worshipping the Lord with devotion. Without the Guru there is no devotional worship.
ਜੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਜੀਵ ਉੱਤੇ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ (ਜੀਵ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਭਗਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਆਪੈ ਆਪੁ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਾ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋਈ ॥
aapai aap milaae boojhai taa niramal hovai soee |
Those whom He unites with Himself, understand and become pure.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਆਪੇ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਦੇਵੇ ਤੇ (ਇਸ ਭੇਤ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝ ਲਏ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ (ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥
har jeeo saachaa saachee baanee sabad milaavaa hoee |1|
The Dear Lord is True, and True is the Word of His Bani. Through the Shabad, we merge with Him. ||1||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵੀ ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ, ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਭਗਤਿਹੀਣੁ ਕਾਹੇ ਜਗਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
bhaaee re bhagatiheen kaahe jag aaeaa |
O Siblings of Destiny: those who lack devotion-why have they even bothered to come into the world?
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣਾ ਰਿਹਾ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਣ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਲਾਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਇਆ।
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ਨ ਕੀਨੀ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
poore gur kee sev na keenee birathaa janam gavaaeaa |1| rahaau |
They do not serve the Perfect Guru they waste away their lives in vain. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਵਾ ਲਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਆਪੇ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
aape jagajeevan sukhadaataa aape bakhas milaae |
The Lord Himself, the Life of the World, is the Giver of Peace. He Himself forgives, and unites with Himself.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਏ ਕਿਆ ਵੇਚਾਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥
jeea jant e kiaa vechaare kiaa ko aakh sunaae |
So what about all these poor beings and creatures? What can anyone say?
(ਜੇ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਹ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਅਸਮਰਥ ਹਨ। (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ) ਆਖ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਸੁਣਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਵਡਾਈ ਆਪੇ ਸੇਵ ਕਰਾਏ ॥੨॥
guramukh aape dee vaddaaee aape sev karaae |2|
He Himself blesses the Gurmukh with glory. He Himself enjoins us to His Service. ||2||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ) ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਦੇਖਿ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਲੋਭਾਣਾ ਚਲਦਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
dekh kuttanb mohi lobhaanaa chaladiaa naal na jaaee |
Gazing upon their families, people are lured and trapped by emotional attachment, but none will go along with them in the end.
ਜੀਵ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਪਰ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਸਾਥੀ) ਜਗਤ ਤੋਂ ਤੁਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ।
ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਿਸ ਦੀ ਕੀਮ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
satagur sev gun nidhaan paaeaa tis dee keem na paaee |
Serving the True Guru, one finds the Lord, the Treasure of Excellence. His Value cannot be estimated.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦੀ (ਆਤਮਕ ਉੱਚਤਾ ਦੀ) ਕੀਮਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਖਾ ਮੀਤੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੩॥
har prabh sakhaa meet prabh meraa ante hoe sakhaaee |3|
The Lord God is my Friend and Companion. God shall be my Helper and Support in the end. ||3||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਦੋਸਤ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਭੀ ਉਸਦਾ ਸਹਾਈ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਆਪਣੈ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਕਹੈ ਕਹਾਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
aapanai man chit kahai kahaae bin gur aap na jaaee |
Within your conscious mind, you may say anything, but without the Guru, selfishness is not removed.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਬੇਸ਼ੱਕ ਜੀਵ ਪਿਆ ਆਖੇ, ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਭੀ ਅਖਵਾਏ (ਕਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹਉਮੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ) ਪਰ ਇਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਦਾਤਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਹੈ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
har jeeo daataa bhagat vachhal hai kar kirapaa man vasaaee |
The Dear Lord is the Giver, the Lover of His devotees. By His Grace, He comes to dwell in the mind.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋਭਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਦੇਇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੪॥੧੫॥੪੮॥
naanak sobhaa surat dee prabh aape guramukh de vaddiaaee |4|15|48|
O Nanak, by His Grace, He bestows enlightened awareness God Himself blesses the Gurmukh with glorious greatness. ||4||15||48||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ) ਸੁਰਤ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸੋਭਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਾ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੫॥੪੮॥

ਧਨੁ ਜਨਨੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਾਇਆ ਧੰਨੁ ਪਿਤਾ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ॥
dhan jananee jin jaaeaa dhan pitaa paradhaan |
Blessed is the mother who gave birth blessed and respected is the father of one who serves the True Guru and finds peace.
ਉਹ ਮਾਂ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ) ਜਨਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ, (ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ) ਪਿਤਾ ਭੀ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਾਤੀ ਵਿਚ) ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਗਇਆ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥
satagur sev sukh paaeaa vichahu geaa gumaan |
His arrogant pride is banished from within.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਲਿਆਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦਰਿ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਖੜੇ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥੧॥
dar sevan sant jan kharre paaein gunee nidhaan |1|
Standing at the Lord's Door, the humble Saints serve Him they find the Treasure of Excellence. ||1||
(ਜੇਹੜੇ) ਸੰਤ ਜਨ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸਾਵਧਾਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਗੁਰ ਮੁਖਿ ਧਿਆਇ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਇ ॥
mere man gur mukh dhiaae har soe |
O my mind, become Gurmukh, and meditate on the Lord.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ।
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur kaa sabad man vasai man tan niramal hoe |1| rahaau |
The Word of the Guru's Shabad abides within the mind, and the body and mind become pure. ||1||Pause||
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਹਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ਆਪੇ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਆਇ ॥

By His Grace, He has come into my home He Himself has come to meet me.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਹੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆ ਕੇ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਰੰਗੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥

Singing His Praises through the Shabads of the Guru, we are dyed in His Color with intuitive ease.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚੈ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
sachai sach samaaeaa mil rahai na vichhurr jaae |2|
Becoming truthful, we merge with the True One remaining blended with Him, we shall never be separated again. ||2||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਦੇ ਵਿੱਛੁੜਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ॥੨॥
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਸੁ ਕਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕਰਣਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
jo kichh karanaa su kar rahiaa avar na karanaa jaae |
Whatever is to be done, the Lord is doing. No one else can do anything.
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਜੀਵ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ, ਇਸ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਦਾ ਉਲੰਘਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ) ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਉਸਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਤੋਂ ਉਲਟ) ਹੋਰ ਕੁਝ ਕੀਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਚਿਰੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨੇ ਮੇਲਿਅਨੁ ਸਤਗੁਰ ਪੰਨੈ ਪਾਇ ॥

Those separated from Him for so long are reunited with Him once again by the True Guru, who takes them into His Own Account.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਲੜ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਚਿਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿੱਛੁੜੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਾਇਸੀ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕਰਣਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
aape kaar karaaeisee avar na karanaa jaae |3|
He Himself assigns all to their tasks nothing else can be done. ||3||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲੀ) ਕਾਰ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਦੇ ਉਲਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੩॥
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਰਤਾ ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਹਉਮੈ ਤਜਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥
man tan rataa rang siau haumai taj vikaar |
One whose mind and body are imbued with the Lord's Love gives up egotism and corruption.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਹੀ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ (ਭੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਵਿ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ॥
ahinis hiradai rav rahai nirbhau naam nirankaar |
Day and night, the Name of the One Lord, the Fearless and Formless One, dwells within the heart.
(ਜੇ ਜੀਵ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ) ਆਕਾਰ-ਰਹਿਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਿਰਭੈਤਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅਪਾਰ ॥੪॥੧੬॥੪੯॥
naanak aap milaaeian poorai sabad apaar |4|16|49|
O Nanak, He blends us with Himself, through the Perfect, Infinite Word of His Shabad. ||4||16||49||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪੂਰਨ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੬॥੪੯॥

ਗੋਵਿਦੁ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
govid gunee nidhaan hai ant na paaeaa jaae |
The Lord of the Universe is the Treasure of Excellence His limits cannot be found.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਸਭ) ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ) ਅਖ਼ੀਰਲਾ ਬੰਨਾ ਲੱਭਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਕਥਨੀ ਬਦਨੀ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
kathanee badanee na paaeeai haumai vichahu jaae |
He is not obtained by mouthing mere words, but by rooting out ego from within.
ਨਿਰਾ (ਇਹੋ) ਕਹਿਣ ਕਥਨ ਨਾਲ (ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ।
