ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
braham giaanee aap nirankaar |
The God-conscious being is himself the Formless Lord.
ਉਹ (ਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਰੱਬ ਹੈ।
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਬਨੀ ॥
braham giaanee kee sobhaa braham giaanee banee |
The glory of the God-conscious being belongs to the God-conscious being alone.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਗਿਆਨੀ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ (ਕੋਈ) ਬ੍ਰਹਮਗਿਆਨੀ ਹੀ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ
ਨਾਨਕ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਰਬ ਕਾ ਧਨੀ ॥੮॥੮॥

O Nanak, the God-conscious being is the Lord of all. ||8||8||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਬ੍ਰਹਮਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੮॥

ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੈ ਜੋ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
aur dhaarai jo antar naam |
One who enshrines the Naam within the heart,
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਟਿਕਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਰਬ ਮੈ ਪੇਖੈ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥
sarab mai pekhai bhagavaan |
who sees the Lord God in all,
ਅਤੇ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੈ ॥
nimakh nimakh tthaakur namasakaarai |
who, each and every moment, bows in reverence to the Lord Master
ਜੋ ਪਲ ਪਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਜੁਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਨਾਨਕ ਓਹੁ ਅਪਰਸੁ ਸਗਲ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੈ ॥੧॥
naanak ohu aparas sagal nisataarai |1|
- O Nanak, such a one is the true 'touch-nothing Saint', who emancipates everyone. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ (ਅਸਲੀ) ਅਪਰਸ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਤਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥

ਮਿਥਿਆ ਨਾਹੀ ਰਸਨਾ ਪਰਸ ॥
mithiaa naahee rasanaa paras |
One whose tongue does not touch falsehood
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਝੂਠ ਨੂੰ ਛੋਹਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਂਦਾ,
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਦਰਸ ॥
man meh preet niranjan daras |
whose mind is filled with love for the Blessed Vision of the Pure Lord,
ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ
ਪਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਅ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਪੇਖੈ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ॥
par tria roop na pekhai netr |
whose eyes do not gaze upon the beauty of others' wives,
ਜੋ ਪਰਾਈ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਹੁਸਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੱਕਦਾ,
ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਟਹਲ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਹੇਤ ॥

who serves the Holy and loves the Saints' Congregation,
ਭਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਟਹਲ (ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਤੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ (ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ)
ਕਰਨ ਨ ਸੁਨੈ ਕਾਹੂ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ॥
karan na sunai kaahoo kee nindaa |
whose ears do not listen to slander against anyone,
ਜੋ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣਦਾ,
ਸਭ ਤੇ ਜਾਨੈ ਆਪਸ ਕਉ ਮੰਦਾ ॥
sabh te jaanai aapas kau mandaa |
who deems himself to be the worst of all,
(ਸਗੋਂ) ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਮਾੜਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਪਰਹਰੈ ॥
gur prasaad bikhiaa paraharai |
who, by Guru's Grace, renounces corruption,
ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ ਮਾਇਆ (ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ) ਪਰੇ ਹਟਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਮਨ ਕੀ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਟਰੈ ॥
man kee baasanaa man te ttarai |
who banishes the mind's evil desires from his mind,
ਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਵਾਸਨਾ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਟਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ
ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਜਿਤ ਪੰਚ ਦੋਖ ਤੇ ਰਹਤ ॥
eindree jit panch dokh te rehat |
who conquers his sexual instincts and is free of the five sinful passions
ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਪੰਜੇ ਹੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਕੋ ਐਸਾ ਅਪਰਸ ॥੧॥
naanak kott madhe ko aisaa aparas |1|
- O Nanak, among millions, there is scarcely one such 'touch-nothing Saint'. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੰਦਾ "ਅਪਰਸ" (ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥
ਬੈਸਨੋ ਸੋ ਜਿਸੁ ਊਪਰਿ ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ॥
baisano so jis aoopar suprasan |
The true Vaishnaav, the devotee of Vishnu, is the one with whom God is thoroughly pleased.
ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਤ੍ਰੁਠਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹੈ ਅਸਲੀ ਵੈਸ਼ਨੋ,
ਬਿਸਨ ਕੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਭਿੰਨ ॥
bisan kee maaeaa te hoe bhin |
He dwells apart from Maya.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਅਸਰ ਤੋਂ ਬੇ-ਦਾਗ਼ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਮ ਕਰਤ ਹੋਵੈ ਨਿਹਕਰਮ ॥
karam karat hovai nihakaram |
Performing good deeds, he does not seek rewards.
ਜੋ (ਧਰਮ ਦੇ) ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਫਲ ਦੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦਾ,
ਤਿਸੁ ਬੈਸਨੋ ਕਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਧਰਮ ॥
tis baisano kaa niramal dharam |
Spotlessly pure is the religion of such a Vaishnaav
ਉਸ ਵੈਸ਼ਨੋ ਦਾ ਧਰਮ (ਭੀ) ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ ।
ਕਾਹੂ ਫਲ ਕੀ ਇਛਾ ਨਹੀ ਬਾਛੈ ॥
kaahoo fal kee ichhaa nahee baachhai |
he has no desire for the fruits of his labors.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਫਲ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਹਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ
ਕੇਵਲ ਭਗਤਿ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਚੈ ॥
keval bhagat keeratan sang raachai |
He is absorbed in devotional worship and the singing of Kirtan, the songs of the Lord's Glory.
ਨਿਰਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੇ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥
man tan antar simaran gopaal |
Within his mind and body, he meditates in remembrance on the Lord of the Universe.
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਭ ਊਪਰਿ ਹੋਵਤ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥
sabh aoopar hovat kirapaal |
He is kind to all creatures.
ਜੋ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਪਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੈ ਅਵਰਹ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਵੈ ॥
aap drirrai avarah naam japaavai |
He holds fast to the Naam, and inspires others to chant it.
ਜੋ ਆਪ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਓਹੁ ਬੈਸਨੋ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
naanak ohu baisano param gat paavai |2|
O Nanak, such a Vaishnaav obtains the supreme status. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਵੈਸ਼ਨੋ ਉੱਚਾ ਦਰਜਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਭਗਉਤੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਾ ਰੰਗੁ ॥
bhgautee bhagavant bhagat kaa rang |
The true Bhagaautee, the devotee of Adi Shakti, loves the devotional worship of God.
ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦਾ (ਅਸਲੀ) ਉਪਾਸ਼ਕ (ਉਹ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ,
ਸਗਲ ਤਿਆਗੈ ਦੁਸਟ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
sagal tiaagai dusatt kaa sang |
He forsakes the company of all wicked people.
ਤੇ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਮੰਦ-ਕਰਮੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੁਹਬਤ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਮਨ ਤੇ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਸਗਲਾ ਭਰਮੁ ॥
man te binasai sagalaa bharam |
All doubts are removed from his mind.
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹਰ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਹਿਮ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਕਰਿ ਪੂਜੈ ਸਗਲ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ॥
kar poojai sagal paarabraham |
He performs devotional service to the Supreme Lord God in all.
ਜੋ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਪੂਜਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਪਾ ਮਲੁ ਖੋਵੈ ॥
saadhasang paapaa mal khovai |
In the Company of the Holy, the filth of sin is washed away.
ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ (ਮਨ ਤੋਂ) ਦੂਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਿਸੁ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
tis bhgautee kee mat aootam hovai |
The wisdom of such a Bhagaautee becomes supreme.
ਉਸ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉੱਚੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਭਗਵੰਤ ਕੀ ਟਹਲ ਕਰੈ ਨਿਤ ਨੀਤਿ ॥
bhagavant kee ttehal karai nit neet |
He constantly performs the service of the Supreme Lord God.
ਜੋ ਨਿੱਤ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅਰਪੈ ਬਿਸਨ ਪਰੀਤਿ ॥
man tan arapai bisan pareet |
He dedicates his mind and body to the Love of God.
ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਿਆਰ ਤੋਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਤਨ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਬਸਾਵੈ ॥
har ke charan hiradai basaavai |
The Lotus Feet of the Lord abide in his heart.
ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ (ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਐਸਾ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਕਉ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥
naanak aisaa bhgautee bhagavant kau paavai |3|
O Nanak, such a Bhagaautee attains the Lord God. ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਅਜੇਹਾ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਸੋ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਜੋ ਮਨੁ ਪਰਬੋਧੈ ॥
so panddit jo man parabodhai |
He is a true Pandit, a religious scholar, who instructs his own mind.
(ਅਸਲੀ) ਪੰਡਿਤ ਉਹ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਤਮ ਮਹਿ ਸੋਧੈ ॥
raam naam aatam meh sodhai |
He searches for the Lord's Name within his own soul.
ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਭਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਸਾਰੁ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵੈ ॥
raam naam saar ras peevai |
He drinks in the Exquisite Nectar of the Lord's Name.
ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਚੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਉਸੁ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਕੈ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਜਗੁ ਜੀਵੈ ॥
aus panddit kai upades jag jeevai |
By that Pandit's teachings, the world lives.
ਉਸ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਨਾਲ (ਸਾਰਾ) ਸੰਸਾਰ ਰੂਹਾਨੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਕਥਾ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਬਸਾਵੈ ॥
har kee kathaa hiradai basaavai |
He implants the Sermon of the Lord in his heart.
ਜੋ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ (ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੋ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
so panddit fir jon na aavai |
Such a Pandit is not cast into the womb of reincarnation again.
ਉਹ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮ (ਮਰਨ) ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ।
ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਮੂਲ ॥
bed puraan simrit boojhai mool |
He understands the fundamental essence of the Vedas, the Puraanas and the Simritees.
ਜੋ ਵੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤੀਆਂ (ਆਦਿਕ ਸਭ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ) ਦਾ ਮੁੱਢ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੂਖਮ ਮਹਿ ਜਾਨੈ ਅਸਥੂਲੁ ॥
sookham meh jaanai asathool |
In the unmanifest, he sees the manifest world to exist.
ਜੋ ਇਹ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਜਗਤ ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਆਸਰੇ ਹੈ
ਚਹੁ ਵਰਨਾ ਕਉ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ॥
chahu varanaa kau de upades |
He gives instruction to people of all castes and social classes.
ਜੋ (ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ, ਖਤ੍ਰੀ, ਵੈਸ਼, ਸ਼ੂਦਰ) ਚਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਜਾਤੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸੁ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਅਦੇਸੁ ॥੪॥
naanak us panddit kau sadaa ades |4|
O Nanak, to such a Pandit, I bow in salutation forever. ||4||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ) ਉਸ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ ॥੪॥
ਬੀਜ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਸਰਬ ਕੋ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
beej mantru sarab ko giaan |
The Beej Mantra, the Seed Mantra, is spiritual wisdom for everyone.
ਨਾਮ (ਹੋਰ ਸਭ ਮੰਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਦਾ) ਮੁੱਢ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ (ਦਾਤਾ) ਹੈ,
ਚਹੁ ਵਰਨਾ ਮਹਿ ਜਪੈ ਕੋਊ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
chahu varanaa meh japai koaoo naam |
Anyone, from any class, may chant the Naam.
(ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ, ਖਤ੍ਰੀ, ਵੈਸ਼, ਸ਼ੂਦਰ) ਚਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਜਾਤੀਆਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਜਪ (ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਏ)
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਜਪੈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
jo jo japai tis kee gat hoe |
Whoever chants it, is emancipated.
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
saadhasang paavai jan koe |
And yet, rare are those who attain it, in the Company of the Holy.
(ਪਰ) ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ) ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੈ ॥
kar kirapaa antar ur dhaarai |
By His Grace, He enshrines it within.
(ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਨਾਮ) ਟਿਕਾ ਦੇਵੇ,
ਪਸੁ ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਮੁਘਦ ਪਾਥਰ ਕਉ ਤਾਰੈ ॥
pas pret mughad paathar kau taarai |
Even beasts, ghosts and the stone-hearted are saved.
ਪਸ਼ੂ, ਚੰਦਰੀ ਰੂਹ, ਮੂਰਖ, ਪੱਥਰ (-ਦਿਲ) (ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਹੋਵੇ ਸਭ) ਨੂੰ (ਨਾਮ) ਤਾਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਰਬ ਰੋਗ ਕਾ ਅਉਖਦੁ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
sarab rog kaa aaukhad naam |
The Naam is the panacea, the remedy to cure all ills.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਵਾਈ ਹੈ,
ਕਲਿਆਣ ਰੂਪ ਮੰਗਲ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਮ ॥
kaliaan roop mangal gun gaam |
Singing the Glory of God is the embodiment of bliss and emancipation.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉਣੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ।
ਕਾਹੂ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਧਰਮਿ ॥
kaahoo jugat kitai na paaeeai dharam |
It cannot be obtained by any religious rituals.
(ਪਰ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਹੋਰ) ਕਿਸੇ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਰਸਮ ਰਿਵਾਜ ਦੇ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਕਰਮਿ ॥੫॥
naanak tis milai jis likhiaa dhur karam |5|
O Nanak, he alone obtains it, whose karma is so pre-ordained. ||5||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਹ ਨਾਮ) ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ (ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ) ਧੁਰੋਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ) ਮੇਹਰ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕਾ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥
jis kai man paarabraham kaa nivaas |
One whose mind is a home for the Supreme Lord God
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
