ਸਹਜੇ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਤਨ ਕੀ ਨਾਸੀ ॥
sahaje dubidhaa tan kee naasee |
In peace, their bodies' duality is eliminated.
ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਮੇਰ-ਤੇਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਨਿ ਭਇਆ ਅਨੰਦੁ ॥
jaa kai sehaj man bheaa anand |
Bliss comes naturally to their minds.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਾ ਕਉ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦੁ ॥੫॥
taa kau bhettiaa paramaanand |5|
They meet the Lord, the Embodiment of Supreme Bliss. ||5||
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਸਹਜੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਓ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
sahaje amrit peeo naam |
In peaceful poise, they drink in the Ambrosial Nectar of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਹਜੇ ਕੀਨੋ ਜੀਅ ਕੋ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
sahaje keeno jeea ko daan |
In peace and poise, they give to the poor.
ਇਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ (ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਸਹਜ ਕਥਾ ਮਹਿ ਆਤਮੁ ਰਸਿਆ ॥
sehaj kathaa meh aatam rasiaa |
Their souls naturally delight in the Lord's Sermon.
ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਰਚੀ-ਮਿਚੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਤਾ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਵਸਿਆ ॥੬॥
taa kai sang abinaasee vasiaa |6|
The Imperishable Lord abides with them. ||6||
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਸਹਜੇ ਆਸਣੁ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
sahaje aasan asathir bhaaeaa |
In peace and poise, they assume the unchanging position.
ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ-ਟਿਕਵਾਂ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਹਜੇ ਅਨਹਤ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਜਾਇਆ ॥
sahaje anahat sabad vajaaeaa |
In peace and poise, the unstruck vibration of the Shabad resounds.
ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਕਰੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ
ਸਹਜੇ ਰੁਣ ਝੁਣਕਾਰੁ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ॥
sahaje run jhunakaar suhaaeaa |
In peace and poise, the celestial bells resound.
ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੀ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਰੌ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੀ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਤਾ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੭॥
taa kai ghar paarabraham samaaeaa |7|
Within their homes, the Supreme Lord God is pervading. ||7||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਗਟ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਸਹਜੇ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਪਰਿਓ ਕਰਮਾ ॥
sahaje jaa kau pario karamaa |
With intuitive ease, they meet the Lord, according to their karma.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਹਜੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸਚੁ ਧਰਮਾ ॥
sahaje gur bhettio sach dharamaa |
With intuitive ease, they meet with the Guru, in the true Dharma.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਧਰਮ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਹਜੁ ਭਇਆ ਸੋ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
jaa kai sehaj bheaa so jaanai |
Those who know, attain the poise of intuitive peace.
(ਪਰ ਇਹ ਸਹਜ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੈ ॥੮॥੩॥
naanak daas taa kai kurabaanai |8|3|
Slave Nanak is a sacrifice to them. ||8||3||
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸ (ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੩॥

ਪ੍ਰਥਮੇ ਗਰਭ ਵਾਸ ਤੇ ਟਰਿਆ ॥
prathame garabh vaas te ttariaa |
First, they come forth from the womb.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜੀਵ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਣ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਸੰਗਿ ਜੁਰਿਆ ॥
putr kalatr kuttanb sang juriaa |
They become attached to their children, spouses and families.
(ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜਨਮ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਫਿਰ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਜਵਾਨੀ ਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਕੇ) ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਆਦਿਕ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਭੋਜਨੁ ਅਨਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਬਹੁ ਕਪਰੇ ॥
bhojan anik prakaar bahu kapare |
The foods of various sorts and appearances,
ਕਈ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਖਾਣਾ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਈ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਪਹਿਨਦਾ ਹੈ (ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਰਪਰ ਗਵਨੁ ਕਰਹਿਗੇ ਬਪੁਰੇ ॥੧॥
sarapar gavan karahige bapure |1|
will surely pass away, O wretched mortal! ||1||
ਪਰ ਅਜੇਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਭੀ) ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਯਤੀਮਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੀ (ਜਗਤ ਤੋਂ) ਕੂਚ ਕਰ ਜਾਣਗੇ ॥੧॥
ਕਵਨੁ ਅਸਥਾਨੁ ਜੋ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਟਰੈ ॥
kavan asathaan jo kabahu na ttarai |
What is that place which never perishes?
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਉਹ ਕੇਹੜਾ ਥਾਂ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਸਦਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਕਵਨੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kavan sabad jit duramat harai |1| rahaau |
What is that Word by which the dirt of the mind is removed? ||1||Pause||
ਉਹ ਕੇਹੜਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ) ਖੋਟੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ? ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਪੁਰੀ ਮਹਿ ਸਰਪਰ ਮਰਣਾ ॥
eindr puree meh sarapar maranaa |
In the Realm of Indra, death is sure and certain.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਾਂ ਗੱਲ ਹੀ ਕੀਹ ਹੈ?) ਇੰਦ੍ਰ-ਪੁਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਮੌਤ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪੁਰੀ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਰਹਣਾ ॥
braham puree nihachal nahee rahanaa |
The Realm of Brahma shall not remain permanent.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਦੀ ਪੁਰੀ ਭੀ ਸਦਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਸਿਵ ਪੁਰੀ ਕਾ ਹੋਇਗਾ ਕਾਲਾ ॥
siv puree kaa hoeigaa kaalaa |
The Realm of Shiva shall also perish.
ਸ਼ਿਵ ਦੀ ਪੁਰੀ ਦਾ ਭੀ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ।
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਮਾਇਆ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਬਿਤਾਲਾ ॥੨॥
trai gun maaeaa binas bitaalaa |2|
The three dispositions, Maya and the demons shall vanish. ||2||
(ਪਰ ਜਗਤ) ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਅਸਰ ਹੇਠ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਸਹੀ ਰਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਗਿਰਿ ਤਰ ਧਰਣਿ ਗਗਨ ਅਰੁ ਤਾਰੇ ॥
gir tar dharan gagan ar taare |
The mountains, the trees, the earth, the sky and the stars
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਹਾੜ, ਰੁੱਖ, ਧਰਤੀ, ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਅਤੇ ਤਾਰੇ
ਰਵਿ ਸਸਿ ਪਵਣੁ ਪਾਵਕੁ ਨੀਰਾਰੇ ॥
rav sas pavan paavak neeraare |
the sun, the moon, the wind, water and fire
ਸੂਰਜ, ਚੰਦ, ਹਵਾ, ਅੱਗ, ਪਾਣੀ, ਦਿਨ ਤੇ ਰਾਤ
ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਬਰਤ ਅਰੁ ਭੇਦਾ ॥
dinas rain barat ar bhedaa |
day and night, fasting days and their determination
ਵਰਤ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਖ ਵਖ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੀਆਂ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ
ਸਾਸਤ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਬਿਨਸਹਿਗੇ ਬੇਦਾ ॥੩॥
saasat sinmrit binasahige bedaa |3|
the Shaastras, the Simritees and the Vedas shall pass away. ||3||
ਵੇਦ, ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤੀਆਂ, ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ-ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੇ ॥੩॥
ਤੀਰਥ ਦੇਵ ਦੇਹੁਰਾ ਪੋਥੀ ॥
teerath dev dehuraa pothee |
The sacred shrines of pilgrimage, gods, temples and holy books
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਤੀਰਥ, ਦੇਵਤੇ, ਮੰਦਰ, (ਧਰਮ-) ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ
ਮਾਲਾ ਤਿਲਕੁ ਸੋਚ ਪਾਕ ਹੋਤੀ ॥
maalaa tilak soch paak hotee |
rosaries, ceremonial tilak marks on the forehead, meditative people, the pure, and the performers of burnt offerings
ਮਾਲਾ, ਤਿਲਕ, ਸੁੱਚੀ ਰਸੋਈ, ਹਵਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ
ਧੋਤੀ ਡੰਡਉਤਿ ਪਰਸਾਦਨ ਭੋਗਾ ॥
dhotee ddanddaut parasaadan bhogaa |
wearing loin cloths, bowing in reverence and the enjoyment of sacred foods
(ਨੇਤੀ-) ਧੋਤੀ ਤੇ ਡੰਡਉਤ-ਨਮਸਕਾਰਾਂ
ਗਵਨੁ ਕਰੈਗੋ ਸਗਲੋ ਲੋਗਾ ॥੪॥
gavan karaigo sagalo logaa |4|
- all these, and all people, shall pass away. ||4||
(ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ) ਮਹਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਭੋਗ-ਬਿਲਾਸ-ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਹੀ (ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਕੂਚ ਕਰ ਜਾਇਗਾ ॥੪॥
ਜਾਤਿ ਵਰਨ ਤੁਰਕ ਅਰੁ ਹਿੰਦੂ ॥
jaat varan turak ar hindoo |
Social classes, races, Muslims and Hindus
(ਵਖ ਵਖ) ਜਾਤਾਂ, (ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ, ਖੱਤ੍ਰੀ ਆਦਿਕ) ਵਰਨ, ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਹਿੰਦੂ
ਪਸੁ ਪੰਖੀ ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨਿ ਜਿੰਦੂ ॥
pas pankhee anik jon jindoo |
beasts, birds and the many varieties of beings and creatures
ਪਸ਼ੂ, ਪੰਛੀ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵ
ਸਗਲ ਪਾਸਾਰੁ ਦੀਸੈ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥
sagal paasaar deesai paasaaraa |
the entire world and the visible universe
ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ-ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਜੋ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ-
ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਇਗੋ ਸਗਲ ਆਕਾਰਾ ॥੫॥
binas jaaeigo sagal aakaaraa |5|
- all forms of existence shall pass away. ||5||
ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ-ਮਾਨ ਸੰਸਾਰ (ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ ॥੫॥
ਸਹਜ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਤਤੁ ਗਿਆਨਾ ॥
sehaj sifat bhagat tat giaanaa |
Through the Praises of the Lord, devotional worship, spiritual wisdom and the essence of reality,
(ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਉਹ (ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ-) ਥਾਂ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੈ,
ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਸਚੁ ਥਾਨਾ ॥
sadaa anand nihachal sach thaanaa |
eternal bliss and the imperishable true place are obtained.
ਤੇ ਉਥੇ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਨੰਦ ਭੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਥੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਥੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਤਹਾ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਾਧ ਗੁਣ ਰਸੈ ॥
tahaa sangat saadh gun rasai |
There, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the Lord's Glorious Praises are sung with love.
ਜਿਥੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ-ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪੈ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਉਥੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਭਉ ਨਗਰੁ ਤਹਾ ਸਦ ਵਸੈ ॥੬॥
anbhau nagar tahaa sad vasai |6|
There, in the city of fearlessness, He dwells forever. ||6||
ਉਥੇ ਸਦਾ ਇਕ ਐਸਾ ਨਗਰ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਥੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਡਰ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੬॥
ਤਹ ਭਉ ਭਰਮਾ ਸੋਗੁ ਨ ਚਿੰਤਾ ॥
teh bhau bharamaa sog na chintaa |
There is no fear, doubt, suffering or anxiety there
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਉਸ (ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ-) ਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਡਰ, ਕੋਈ ਭਰਮ, ਕੋਈ ਗ਼ਮ, ਕੋਈ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ,
ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਵਣੁ ਮਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਹੋਤਾ ॥
aavan jaavan mirat na hotaa |
there is no coming or going, and no death there.
ਉਥੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ, ਉਥੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।
ਤਹ ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਅਨਹਤ ਆਖਾਰੇ ॥
teh sadaa anand anahat aakhaare |
There is eternal bliss, and the unstruck celestial music there.
ਉਥੇ ਸਦਾ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਅਖਾੜੇ ਲੱਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਭਗਤ ਵਸਹਿ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਆਧਾਰੇ ॥੭॥
bhagat vaseh keeratan aadhaare |7|
The devotees dwell there, with the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises as their support. ||7||
ਉਥੇ ਭਗਤ-ਜਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੭॥
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰੁ ॥

There is no end or limitation to the Supreme Lord God.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਰਚਨਾ ਰਚੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ) ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ, ਪਾਰਲਾ ਬੰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਕਉਣੁ ਕਰੈ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

Who can embrace His contemplation?
(ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਕੋਈ ਐਸਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਪਾਣ ਦਾ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰ ਸਕੇ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੈ ॥

Says Nanak, when the Lord showers His Mercy,
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਥਾਂ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਨਿਹਚਲ ਥਾਨੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਤਰੈ ॥੮॥੪॥
nihachal thaan saadhasang tarai |8|4|
the imperishable home is obtained in the Saadh Sangat, you shall be saved. ||8||4||
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੪॥

ਜੋ ਇਸੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਸੂਰਾ ॥

One who kills this is a spiritual hero.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ (ਮੇਰ-ਤੇਰ ਨੂੰ) ਮੁਕਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ) ਬਲੀ ਸੂਰਮਾ ਹੈ,
ਜੋ ਇਸੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਪੂਰਾ ॥

One who kills this is perfect.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ (ਮੇਰ-ਤੇਰ ਨੂੰ) ਮੁਕਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਇਸੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
jo is maare tiseh vaddiaaee |
One who kills this obtains glorious greatness.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜੋ ਇਸੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥
jo is maare tis kaa dukh jaaee |1|
One who kills this is freed of suffering. ||1||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ (ਮੇਰ-ਤੇਰ ਨੂੰ) ਮੁਕਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ (ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ) ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਐਸਾ ਕੋਇ ਜਿ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਗਵਾਵੈ ॥
aisaa koe ji dubidhaa maar gavaavai |
How rare is such a person, who kills and casts off duality.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਅਜੇਹਾ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮੇਰ-ਤੇਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਸਹਿ ਮਾਰਿ ਰਾਜ ਜੋਗੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
eiseh maar raaj jog kamaavai |1| rahaau |
Killing it, he attains Raja Yoga, the Yoga of meditation and success. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਇਸ ਮੇਰ-ਤੇਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਅੱਭਿਆਸੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
