ਆਪਿ ਛਡਾਏ ਛੁਟੀਐ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੪॥
aap chhaddaae chhutteeai satigur charan samaal |4|
If the Lord Himself saves you, then you shall be saved. Dwell upon the Feet of the True Guru. ||4||
ਜੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਮਾਇਆ-ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਕਰਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕੇ (ਇਸ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਨਿਕਲ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਦੇਹੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥
man karahalaa mere piaariaa vich dehee jot samaal |
O my dear beloved camel-like mind, dwell upon the Divine Light within the body.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਨ! ਹੇ ਬੇ-ਮੁਹਾਰ ਮਨ! (ਤੇਰੇ) ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ (ਰੱਬੀ) ਜੋਤਿ (ਵੱਸ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸਾਂਭ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ।
ਗੁਰਿ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਖਾਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਰੀ ਦਇਆਲਿ ॥੫॥
gur nau nidh naam vikhaaliaa har daat karee deaal |5|
The Guru has shown me the nine treasures of the Naam. The Merciful Lord has bestowed this gift. ||5||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਮਾਨੋ, ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ) ਨੌ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ (ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਖਾਲ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਦਇਆਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਇਹ) ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲਾ ਤੂੰ ਚੰਚਲਾ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਛਡਿ ਵਿਕਰਾਲਿ ॥
man karahalaa toon chanchalaa chaturaaee chhadd vikaraal |
O camel-like mind, you are so fickle give up your cleverness and corruption.
ਹੇ ਬੇ-ਮੁਹਾਰ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੈਠਦਾ, ਇਹ ਚੰਚਲਤਾ ਇਹ ਚਲਾਕੀ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ, (ਇਹ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ) ਭਿਆਨਕ (ਖੂਹ) ਵਿਚ (ਸੁੱਟ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ)।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਤੂੰ ਹਰਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ॥੬॥
har har naam samaal toon har mukat kare ant kaal |6|
Dwell upon the Name of the Lord, Har, Har at the very last moment, the Lord shall liberate you. ||6||
(ਹੇ ਬੇ-ਮੁਹਾਰ ਮਨ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਹੀ ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਿਵਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲਾ ਵਡਭਾਗੀਆ ਤੂੰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥
man karahalaa vaddabhaageea toon giaan ratan samaal |
O camel-like mind, you are so very fortunate dwell upon the jewel of spiritual wisdom.
ਹੇ ਬੇ-ਮੁਹਾਰ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ (ਇਕ) ਰਤਨ (ਹੈ ਇਸਨੂੰ) ਤੂੰ ਸਾਂਭ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ, ਤੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣ।
ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਖੜਗੁ ਹਥਿ ਧਾਰਿਆ ਜਮੁ ਮਾਰਿਅੜਾ ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ॥੭॥
gur giaan kharrag hath dhaariaa jam maariarraa jamakaal |7|
You hold in your hands the sword of the Guru's spiritual wisdom with this destroyer of death, kill the Messenger of Death. ||7||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਗਿਆਨ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਈ ਹੋਈ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ, ਇਕ) ਖੰਡਾ ਹੈ, (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਖੰਡਾ ਆਪਣੇ) ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਫ਼ੜ ਲਿਆ, ਉਸ ਨੇ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਮੌਤ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ (ਇਸ ਗਿਆਨ-ਖੰਡੇ) ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜਮ ਨੂੰ (ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਸਹਮ ਨੂੰ, ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਨੂੰ) ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੭॥
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲੇ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭਵਹਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਭਾਲਿ ॥
antar nidhaan man karahale bhram bhaveh baahar bhaal |
The treasure is deep within, O camel-like mind, but you wander around outside in doubt, searching for it.
ਹੇ ਬੇ-ਮੁਹਾਰੇ ਮਨ! (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ (ਤੇਰੇ) ਅੰਦਰ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਤੂੰ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਭਾਲਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਸਜਣੁ ਲਧੜਾ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੮॥
gur purakh pooraa bhettiaa har sajan ladharraa naal |8|
Meeting the Perfect Guru, the Primal Being, you shall discover that the Lord, your Best Friend, is with you. ||8||
(ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ-ਦਾ-ਰੂਪ ਗੁਰੂ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੱਜਣ-ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ-ਵੱਸਦਾ (ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ) ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤੜੇ ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥
rang ratarre man karahale har rang sadaa samaal |
You are engrossed in pleasures, O camel-like mind dwell upon the Lord's lasting love instead!
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਬੇ-ਮੁਹਾਰੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਸਦਾ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਸਾਂਭ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ।
ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੯॥
har rang kade na utarai gur sevaa sabad samaal |9|
The color of the Lord's Love never fades away serve the Guru, and dwell upon the Word of the Shabad. ||9||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ) ਦਾ (ਇਹ) ਰੰਗ ਫਿਰ ਕਦੇ ਫਿੱਕਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ, (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਇਹ ਰੰਗ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ) ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਉ, ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਭਾਲ ॥੯॥
ਹਮ ਪੰਖੀ ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਤਰਵਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਕਾਲਿ ॥
ham pankhee man karahale har taravar purakh akaal |
We are birds, O camel-like mind the Lord, the Immortal Primal Being, is the tree.
ਹੇ ਬੇ-ਮੁਹਾਰੇ ਮਨ! ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਪੰਛੀ ਹਾਂ, ਅਕਾਲ-ਪੁਰਖ ਨੇ (ਸਾਨੂੰ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਰੁੱਖ ਪੰਛੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਤ-ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ਲਈ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਉਹ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹਰੀ (ਸਾਡਾ ਜੀਵ-ਪੰਛੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ-) ਰੁੱਖ ਹੈ।
ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੧੦॥੨॥
vaddabhaagee guramukh paaeaa jan naanak naam samaal |10|2|
The Gurmukhs are very fortunate - they find it. O servant Nanak, dwell upon the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||10||2||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ (ਜੀਵ-ਪੰਛੀਆਂ) ਨੇ ਉਹ ਆਸਰਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥੨॥
ਰਾਗੁ ਗਉੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਅਸਟਪਦੀਆ ॥

ਰਾਗ ਗਉੜੀ-ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਅੱਠ-ਬੰਦਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ।
ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik oankaar sat naam karataa purakh gur prasaad |
One Universal Creator God. Truth Is The Name. Creative Being Personified. By Guru's Grace:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ 'ਹੋਂਦ ਵਾਲਾ' ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਬ ਇਹੁ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਕਰਤ ਗੁਮਾਨਾ ॥
jab ihu man meh karat gumaanaa |
When this mind is filled with pride,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਵੱਡੇ ਹੋਣ ਦਾ) ਮਾਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਬ ਇਹੁ ਬਾਵਰੁ ਫਿਰਤ ਬਿਗਾਨਾ ॥
tab ihu baavar firat bigaanaa |
then it wanders around like a madman and a lunatic.
ਤਦੋਂ (ਉਸ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ) ਝੱਲਾ (ਹੋਇਆ) ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸਭ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਵੱਖਰਾ ਵੱਖਰਾ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਬ ਇਹੁ ਹੂਆ ਸਗਲ ਕੀ ਰੀਨਾ ॥
jab ihu hooaa sagal kee reenaa |
But when it becomes the dust of all,
ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ,
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਰਮਈਆ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਚੀਨਾ ॥੧॥
taa te rameea ghatt ghatt cheenaa |1|
then it recognizes the Lord in each and every heart. ||1||
ਤਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਨੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਰਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ॥੧॥
ਸਹਜ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਫਲੁ ਮਸਕੀਨੀ ॥
sehaj suhelaa fal masakeenee |
The fruit of humility is intuitive peace and pleasure.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮੇਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਗਰੀਬੀ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਦੀ) ਦਾਤ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਮੋਹਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੀਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

My True Guru has given me this gift. ||1||Pause||
ਉਸ ਗਰੀਬੀ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਇਹ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਮਿਲ ਗਈ, ਮੈਂ ਸੁਖੀ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਬ ਕਿਸ ਕਉ ਇਹੁ ਜਾਨਸਿ ਮੰਦਾ ॥
jab kis kau ihu jaanas mandaa |
When he believes others to be bad,
ਜਦ ਤਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਭੈੜਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਬ ਸਗਲੇ ਇਸੁ ਮੇਲਹਿ ਫੰਦਾ ॥
tab sagale is meleh fandaa |
then everyone lays traps for him.
ਤਦ ਤਕ (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਉਂ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਠੱਗੀ ਦੇ) ਜਾਲ ਵਿਛਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਮੇਰ ਤੇਰ ਜਬ ਇਨਹਿ ਚੁਕਾਈ ॥
mer ter jab ineh chukaaee |
But when he stops thinking in terms of 'mine' and 'yours',
ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਵਿਤਕਰਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਇਸੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਹੀ ਬੈਰਾਈ ॥੨॥
taa te is sang nahee bairaaee |2|
then no one is angry with him. ||2||
ਤਦੋਂ (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਯਕੀਨ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ (ਕੋਈ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਵੈਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ॥੨॥
ਜਬ ਇਨਿ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਅਪਨੀ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
jab in apunee apanee dhaaree |
When he clings to 'my own, my own',
ਜਦ ਤਕ ਇਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ (ਮਨ ਵਿਚ) ਆਪਣੀ ਹੀ ਗ਼ਰਜ਼ ਟਿਕਾਈ ਰੱਖੀ,
ਤਬ ਇਸ ਕਉ ਹੈ ਮੁਸਕਲੁ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
tab is kau hai musakal bhaaree |
then he is in deep trouble.
ਤਦ ਤਕ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੜੀ ਔਖਿਆਈ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਬ ਇਨਿ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
jab in karanaihaar pachhaataa |
But when he recognizes the Creator Lord,
ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਨੇ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ (ਵੱਸਦਾ) ਪਛਾਣ ਲਿਆ,
ਤਬ ਇਸ ਨੋ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਾਤਾ ॥੩॥
tab is no naahee kichh taataa |3|
then he is free of torment. ||3||
ਤਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ (ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਲ) ਕੋਈ ਸਾੜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ ॥੩॥
ਜਬ ਇਨਿ ਅਪੁਨੋ ਬਾਧਿਓ ਮੋਹਾ ॥
jab in apuno baadhio mohaa |
When he entangles himself in emotional attachment,
ਜਦ ਤਕ ਇਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਨਾਲ) ਆਪਣਾ ਮੋਹ ਪੱਕਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ਸਦਾ ਜਮਿ ਜੋਹਾ ॥
aavai jaae sadaa jam johaa |
he comes and goes in reincarnation, under the constant gaze of Death.
ਤਦ ਤਕ ਇਹ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਨੇ (ਤਦ ਤਕ) ਸਦਾ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਤੱਕ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਜਬ ਇਸ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਭਰਮਾ ॥
jab is te sabh binase bharamaa |
But when all his doubts are removed,
ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ,
ਭੇਦੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਹੈ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ॥੪॥
bhed naahee hai paarabrahamaa |4|
then there is no difference between him and the Supreme Lord God. ||4||
ਤਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਵਿੱਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ॥੪॥
ਜਬ ਇਨਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੇ ਭੇਦਾ ॥
jab in kichh kar maane bhedaa |
When he perceives differences,
ਜਦ ਤਕ ਇਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ (ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ) ਕੋਈ ਵਿਤਕਰੇ ਮਿਥ ਰੱਖੇ ਹਨ,
ਤਬ ਤੇ ਦੂਖ ਡੰਡ ਅਰੁ ਖੇਦਾ ॥
tab te dookh ddandd ar khedaa |
then he suffers pain, punishment and sorrow.
ਤਦ ਤਕ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਜ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਮਿਲਦੀਆਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਜਬ ਇਨਿ ਏਕੋ ਏਕੀ ਬੂਝਿਆ ॥
jab in eko ekee boojhiaa |
But when he recognizes the One and Only Lord,
ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਨੇ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਸਮਝ ਲਿਆ,
ਤਬ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੋ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੂਝਿਆ ॥੫॥
tab te is no sabh kichh soojhiaa |5|
he understands everything. ||5||
ਤਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ (ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਦਾ) ਹਰੇਕ ਅੰਗ ਸੁੱਝ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਜਬ ਇਹੁ ਧਾਵੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਅਰਥੀ ॥
jab ihu dhaavai maaeaa arathee |
When he runs around for the sake of Maya and riches,
ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੁਥਾਜ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਹਰ ਪਾਸੇ) ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਵੈ ਨਹ ਤਿਸ ਲਾਥੀ ॥
neh tripataavai neh tis laathee |
he is not satisfied, and his desires are not quenched.
ਤਦੋਂ ਤਕ ਇਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ। ਇਸ ਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮੁੱਕਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਜਬ ਇਸ ਤੇ ਇਹੁ ਹੋਇਓ ਜਉਲਾ ॥
jab is te ihu hoeo jaulaa |
But when he runs away from Maya,
ਜਦੋਂ ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ-ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਖ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪੀਛੈ ਲਾਗਿ ਚਲੀ ਉਠਿ ਕਉਲਾ ॥੬॥
peechhai laag chalee utth kaulaa |6|
then the Goddess of Wealth gets up and follows him. ||6||
ਤਦੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਛੇ ਪਿਛੇ ਲੱਗ ਤੁਰਦੀ ਹੈ। (ਮਾਇਆ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ) ॥੬॥
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਓ ॥
kar kirapaa jau satigur milio |
When, by His Grace, the True Guru is met,
ਜਦੋਂ (ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਮਨ ਮੰਦਰ ਮਹਿ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਜਲਿਓ ॥
man mandar meh deepak jalio |
the lamp is lit within the temple of the mind.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗਿਆਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਦੀਵਾ ਜਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਘਰ ਦੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ।)
ਜੀਤ ਹਾਰ ਕੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਕਰੀ ॥
jeet haar kee sojhee karee |
When he realizes what victory and defeat really are,
ਤਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਅਸਲ ਜਿੱਤ ਕੀਹ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਹਾਰ ਕੀਹ ਹੈ,
ਤਉ ਇਸੁ ਘਰ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਰੀ ॥੭॥
tau is ghar kee keemat paree |7|
then he comes to appreciate the true value of his own home. ||7||
ਤਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਮਲੂਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੋਲਦਾ) ॥੭॥
