ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਏ ਹਮ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਭਾਰਿਆ ॥੭॥
prabh paae ham avar na bhaariaa |7|
I have found God - I am not searching for any other. ||7||
ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਜਸ ਕੀਤਾ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ। (ਮੈਂ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤੇ) ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਾਲਦਾ ॥੭॥
ਸਾਚ ਮਹਲਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਇਆ ॥

The Guru has shown me the unseen Mansion of the True Lord.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਮਹਲ ਵਿਚ (ਅਪੜਾ ਕੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਅਲੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਿਹਚਲ ਮਹਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਛਾਇਆ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
nihachal mehal nahee chhaaeaa maaeaa |
His Mansion is eternal and unchanging it is not a mere reflection of Maya.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਅਚੱਲ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ (ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ।
ਸਾਚਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੇ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੮॥
saach santokhe bharam chukaaeaa |8|
Through truth and contentment, doubt is dispelled. ||8||
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
jin kai man vasiaa sach soee |
That person, within whose mind the True Lord dwells
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਈ ॥
tin kee sangat guramukh hoee |
in his company, one becomes Gurmukh.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਲੁ ਖੋਈ ॥੯॥੧੫॥

O Nanak, the True Name washes off the pollution. ||9||15||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਸਾਫ਼ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੯॥੧੫॥

ਰਾਮਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਰਾਪੈ ਜਾ ਕਾ ॥
raam naam chit raapai jaa kaa |
One whose consciousness is permeated with the Lord's Name
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ (-ਰੰਗ) ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਉਪਜੰਪਿ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਕੀਜੈ ਤਾ ਕਾ ॥੧॥
aupajanp darasan keejai taa kaa |1|
- receive the blessing of his darshan in the early light of dawn. ||1||
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਨਿੱਤ ਸਵੇਰੇ ਉਠਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਅਜੇਹੇ ਸੁਭਾਗੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਚੇਤੇ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥
ਰਾਮ ਨ ਜਪਹੁ ਅਭਾਗੁ ਤੁਮਾਰਾ ॥
raam na japahu abhaag tumaaraa |
If you do not meditate on the Lord, it is your own misfortune.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜੇ) ਤੁਸੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ, ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਬਦ-ਕਿਸਮਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jug jug daataa prabh raam hamaaraa |1| rahaau |
In each and every age, the Great Giver is my Lord God. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਸਾਨੂੰ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਚਲਾ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਅਜੇਹੇ ਦਾਤੇ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾਣਾ ਮੰਗ-ਭਾਗਤਾ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਜਨੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥

Following the Guru's Teachings, the perfect humble beings meditate on the Lord.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਡੋਲਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ)।
ਤਿਤੁ ਘਟ ਅਨਹਤ ਬਾਜੇ ਤੂਰਾ ॥੨॥
tit ghatt anahat baaje tooraa |2|
Within their hearts, the unstruck melody vibrates. ||2||
ਉਸ (ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਖਿੜਾਉ ਹੀ ਖਿੜਾਉ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਾਨੋ) ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਤੁਰਮਾਂ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਾਜੇ ਵੱਜਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਜੋ ਜਨ ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥
jo jan raam bhagat har piaar |
Those who worship the Lord and love the Lord
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ (ਜੁੜਦੇ) ਹਨ,
ਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੩॥
se prabh raakhe kirapaa dhaar |3|
- showering His Mercy, God protects them. ||3||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਹਉਮੈ ਆਦਿਕ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਈ ॥
jin kai hiradai har har soee |
Those whose hearts are filled with the Lord, Har, Har
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ (ਦਇਆ-ਨਿਧਿ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਦਰਸੁ ਪਰਸਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥
tin kaa daras paras sukh hoee |4|
- gazing upon the blessed vision of their darshan, peace is obtained. ||4||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੋ ਰਵੈ ॥
sarab jeea meh eko ravai |
Among all beings, the One Lord is pervading.
ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੂਨੀ ਭਵੈ ॥੫॥
manamukh ahankaaree fir joonee bhavai |5|
The eogtistical, self-willed manmukhs wander in reincarnation. ||5||
(ਪਰ) ਮਨ ਦਾ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ, ਉਹ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਬ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ, ਉਹ) ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ-ਭਰਿਆ ਵਰਤਾਉ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
so boojhai jo satigur paae |
They alone understand, who have found the True Guru.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ)
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੇ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੇ ਪਾਏ ॥੬॥
haumai maare gurasabade paae |6|
Subduing their ego, they receive the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||6||
ਉਹ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਉਹ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਮੇਲ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਅਰਧ ਉਰਧ ਕੀ ਸੰਧਿ ਕਿਉ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
aradh uradh kee sandh kiau jaanai |
How can anyone know of the Union between the being below and the Supreme Being above?
(ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੇ ਰਿਹਾਂ, ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦੀ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੰਧਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨੈ ॥੭॥
guramukh sandh milai man maanai |7|
The Gurmukhs obtain this Union their minds are reconciliated. ||7||
(ਉਹੀ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਵਿਚ) ਗਿੱਝ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਹਮ ਪਾਪੀ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਕਉ ਗੁਣੁ ਕਰੀਐ ॥
ham paapee niragun kau gun kareeai |
I am a worthless sinner, without merit. What merit do I have?
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਹਾਂ, ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਣ ਹਾਂ (ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ) ਗੁਣ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼।
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਤਰੀਐ ॥੮॥੧੬॥
prabh hoe deaal naanak jan tareeai |8|16|
When God showers His Mercy, servant Nanak is emancipated. ||8||16||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਦਇਆਲ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਜਦੋਂ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤਦੋਂ) ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ (ਸੰਸਾਰ- ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੮॥੧੬॥
ਸੋਲਹ ਅਸਟਪਦੀਆ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਗਉੜੀ ਕੀਆ ॥

ਰਾਗ ਗਉੜੀ-ਬੇਰਾਗਣਿ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ।
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik oankaar satigur prasaad |
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਉ ਗਾਈ ਕਉ ਗੋਇਲੀ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਰਾ ॥
jiau gaaee kau goeilee raakheh kar saaraa |
As the dairy farmer watches over and protects his cows, so does the Lord cherish and protect us, night and day. He blesses the soul with peace. ||1||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਗੁਆਲਾ ਗਾਈਆਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਤੂੰ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ) ਰਾਖੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਪਾਲਹਿ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹਿ ਆਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਧਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
ahinis paaleh raakh lehi aatam sukh dhaaraa |1|
Please protect me here and hereafter, O Lord, Merciful to the meek.
ਤੂੰ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਲਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਰਾਖੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ, ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥
ਇਤ ਉਤ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
eit ut raakhahu deen deaalaa |
I seek Your Sanctuary please bless me with Your Glance of Grace. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ (ਮੇਰੀ) ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ।
ਤਉ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tau saranaagat nadar nihaalaa |1| rahaau |
Wherever I look, there You are. Save me, O Savior Lord!
(ਮੈਂ) ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ (ਮੇਰੇ ਵਲ) ਵੇਖ! ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਰਵਿ ਰਹੇ ਰਖੁ ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
jeh dekhau teh rav rahe rakh raakhanahaaraa |
You are the Giver, and You are the Enjoyer
ਹੇ ਰੱਖਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਜਿਧਰ ਤੱਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਉਧਰ ਹੀ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਤੂੰ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਤੂੰ ਦਾਤਾ ਭੁਗਤਾ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
toon daataa bhugataa toonhai toon praan adhaaraa |2|
You are the Support of the breath of life. ||2||
ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਭੋਗਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੨॥
ਕਿਰਤੁ ਪਇਆ ਅਧ ਊਰਧੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਗਿਆਨ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
kirat peaa adh aooradhee bin giaan beechaaraa |
According to the karma of past actions, people descend to the depths or rise to the heights, unless they contemplate spiritual wisdom.
(ਇਸ) ਗਿਆਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ, ਵਿਚਾਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ, ਜੀਵ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਏ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਕਦੇ ਪਾਤਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਡਿੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਦੇ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਲ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਦੇ ਦੁਖੀ ਕਦੇ ਸੁਖੀ)।
ਬਿਨੁ ਉਪਮਾ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਕੀ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਨ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਾ ॥੩॥
bin upamaa jagadees kee binasai na andhiaaraa |3|
Without the Praises of the Lord of the Universe, the darkness is not dispelled. ||3||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੀਵ ਦੀ ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ ਮਿਟਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ॥੩॥
ਜਗੁ ਬਿਨਸਤ ਹਮ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਲੋਭੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥
jag binasat ham dekhiaa lobhe ahankaaraa |
I have seen the world being destroyed by greed and egotism.
ਨਿੱਤ ਦੇਖੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਗਤ ਲੋਭ ਤੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥੪॥
gur sevaa prabh paaeaa sach mukat duaaraa |4|
Only by serving the Guru is God obtained, and the true gate of liberation found. ||4||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ (ਲੋਭ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਲੱਭ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਅਪਾਰ ਕੋ ਅਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
nij ghar mehal apaar ko aparanpar soee |
The Mansion of the Infinite Lord's Presence is within the home of one's own being. He is beyond any boundaries.
ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਲੋਭ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ) ਪਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਥਿਰੁ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੫॥
bin sabadai thir ko nahee boojhai sukh hoee |5|
Without the Word of the Shabad, nothing shall endure. Through understanding, peace is obtained. ||5||
ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ (ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਨ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਉਸ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ) ਸਦਾ-ਟਿਕਵਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ। ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਕਿਆ ਲੈ ਆਇਆ ਲੇ ਜਾਇ ਕਿਆ ਫਾਸਹਿ ਜਮ ਜਾਲਾ ॥
kiaa lai aaeaa le jaae kiaa faaseh jam jaalaa |
What have you brought, and what will you take away, when you are caught by the noose of Death?
ਹੇ ਜੀਵ! ਨਾਹ ਤੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਲੈ ਕੇ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਆਇਆ ਸੀ, ਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਹੀ (ਇਥੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਮਾਲ-ਧਨ) ਲੈ ਕੇ ਜਾਵੇਂਗਾ। (ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ-ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਜਮ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਡੋਲੁ ਬਧਾ ਕਸਿ ਜੇਵਰੀ ਆਕਾਸਿ ਪਤਾਲਾ ॥੬॥
ddol badhaa kas jevaree aakaas pataalaa |6|
Like the bucket tied to the rope in the well, you are pulled up to the Akaashic Ethers, and then lowered down to the nether regions of the underworld. ||6||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਰੱਸੀ ਨਾਲ ਬੱਧਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਡੋਲ (ਕਦੇ ਖੂਹ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਦੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਤੂੰ ਕਦੇ) ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਕਦੇ ਪਾਤਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਡਿੱਗਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੬॥
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
guramat naam na veesarai sahaje pat paaeeai |
Follow the Guru's Teachings, and do not forget the Naam, the Name of the Lord you shall automatically obtain honor.
(ਹੇ ਜੀਵ!) ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਕਦੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਹ ਭੁੱਲੇ, ਤਾਂ (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਅਡੋਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਈਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਈਐ ॥੭॥
antar sabad nidhaan hai mil aap gavaaeeai |7|
Deep within the self is the treasure of the Shabad it is obtained only by eradicating selfishness and conceit. ||7||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ-ਰੂਪ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ)। (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਗਵਾ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਣੀ ਗੁਣ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
nadar kare prabh aapanee gun ank samaavai |
When God bestows His Glance of Grace, people settle in the Lap of the Virtuous Lord.
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਗੁਣ (ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਅੰਕ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਲੁ ਨ ਚੂਕਈ ਲਾਹਾ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੮॥੧॥੧੭॥
naanak mel na chookee laahaa sach paavai |8|1|17|
O Nanak, this Union cannot be broken the true profit is obtained. ||8||1||17||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਬਣਿਆ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਕਦੇ ਟੁੱਟਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਹ ਜੀਵ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਲਾਭ ਖੱਟ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੧॥੧੭॥
