ਗੁਰਸਬਦੇ ਕੀਨਾ ਰਿਦੈ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੩॥
gurasabade keenaa ridai nivaas |3|
The Word of the Guru's Shabad has come to dwell within my heart. ||3||
(ਜਿਸ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਗੁਰ ਸਮਰਥ ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆਲ ॥

The Guru is All-powerful and Merciful forever.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਸਭ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਏ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੪॥੧੧॥
har jap jap naanak bhe nihaal |4|11|
Chanting and meditating on the Lord, Nanak is exalted and enraptured. ||4||11||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਖਿੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੧॥

ਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

Chanting Guru, Guru, I have found eternal peace.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਭਏ ਕਿਰਪਾਲਾ ਅਪਣਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਪਿ ਜਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
deen deaal bhe kirapaalaa apanaa naam aap japaaeaa |1| rahaau |
God, Merciful to the meek, has become kind and compassionate He has inspired me to chant His Name. ||1||Pause||
ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪ ਜਪਣ ਲਈ (ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸੰਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ॥

Joining the Society of the Saints, I am illumined and enlightened.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਬੈਠਿਆਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਦਾ) ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਤ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਈ ਆਸ ॥੧॥

Chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, my hopes have been fulfilled. ||1||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਜਪਦਿਆਂ (ਹਰੇਕ) ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸਰਬ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਸੂਖ ਮਨਿ ਵੂਠੇ ॥
sarab kaliaan sookh man vootthe |
I am blessed with total salvation, and my mind is filled with peace.
(ਗੁਣ ਗਾਣ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਆਨੰਦ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੂਠੇ ॥੨॥੧੨॥

I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord O Nanak, the Guru has been gracious to me. ||2||12||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥੧੨॥

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਠਾਉ ॥
avar na doojaa tthaau |
There is no other place of rest,
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ) ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਦੂਜਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਹੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
naahee bin har naau |
none at all, without the Lord's Name.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਸਹਾਰਾ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਸਰਬ ਸਿਧਿ ਕਲਿਆਨ ॥
sarab sidh kaliaan |
There is total success and salvation,
(ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ) ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਸਿਧੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਹਨ।
ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਹਿ ਸਗਲ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥

and all affairs are perfectly resolved. ||1||
(ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਸਫਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੀਐ ਨੀਤ ॥

Constantly chant the Name of the Lord.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਜਪਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਲਗੈ ਏਕੈ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kaam krodh ahankaar binasai lagai ekai preet |1| rahaau |
Sexuality, anger and egotism are wiped away let yourself fall in love with the One Lord. ||1||Pause||
(ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ (ਆਦਿਕ ਹਰੇਕ ਵਿਕਾਰ) ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਨਾਮਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਦੂਖੁ ਭਾਗੈ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਾਲਨ ਜੋਗੁ ॥
naam laagai dookh bhaagai saran paalan jog |
Attached to the Naam, the Name of the Lord, pain runs away. In His Sanctuary, He cherishes and sustains us.
(ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਰੇਕ) ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਜਮੁ ਨ ਤੇਟੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਧੁਰਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ॥੨॥
satigur bhettai jam na tettai jis dhur hovai sanjog |2|
Whoever has such pre-ordained destiny meets with the True Guru the Messenger of Death cannot grab him. ||2||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਧੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਅਵਸਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ) ਜਮ (ਭੀ) ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੨॥
ਰੈਨਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਤਜਹੁ ਮਨ ਕੇ ਭਰਮ ॥
rain dinas dhiaae har har tajahu man ke bharam |
Night and day, meditate on the Lord, Har, Har abandon the doubts of your mind.
(ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਭਟਕਣਾਂ ਛੱਡੋ, ਅਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੇ ਰਹੋ।
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਿਸਹਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਰਮ ॥੩॥
saadhasangat har milai jiseh pooran karam |3|
One who has perfect karma joins the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and meets the Lord. ||3||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਬਿਖਾਦ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਨੇ ਆਪਿ ॥
janam janam bikhaad binase raakh leene aap |
The sins of countless lifetimes are erased, and one is protected by the Lord Himself.
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆਂ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਦੁੱਖਾਂ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਮੀਤ ਭਾਈ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪਿ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੩॥
maat pitaa meet bhaaee jan naanak har har jaap |4|1|13|
He is our Mother, Father, Friend and Sibling O servant Nanak, meditate on the Lord, Har, Har. ||4||1||13||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਮਾਂ ਪਿਉ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਭਰਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੩॥

ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਇ ਅਹੰ ਤਾਪ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kal kales lobh moh binas jaae ahan taap |1| rahaau |
Conflict, suffering, greed and emotional attachment shall be dispelled, and the fever of egotism shall be relieved. ||1||Pause||
(ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਦੁੱਖ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਤਾਪ-(ਹਰੇਕ ਵਿਕਾਰ) ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਆਪੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਸੰਤ ਚਰਨ ਲਾਗਿ ਮਨੁ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਜਾਹਿ ਪਾਪ ॥੧॥
aap tiaag sant charan laag man pavit jaeh paap |1|
Renounce your selfishness, and grasp the feet of the Saints your mind shall be sanctified, and your sins shall be taken away. ||1||
ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ, ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹੁ। (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਮਨ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ (ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ) ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬਾਰਿਕੁ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਰਾਖਨ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਾਈ ਬਾਪ ॥੨॥੧॥੧੪॥
naanak baarik kachhoo na jaanai raakhan kau prabh maaee baap |2|1|14|
Nanak, the child, does not know anything at all. O God, please protect me You are my Mother and Father. ||2||1||14||
ਨਾਨਕ (ਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਇਕ) ਅੰਞਾਣ ਬੱਚਾ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਦਾ) ਕੋਈ ਢੰਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਚਾ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ (ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ) ਮਾਂ ਪਿਉ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੧॥੧੪॥

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਰਨਿ ਟੇਕ ॥

I have taken the Shelter and Support of the Lord's Lotus Feet.
(ਤੇਰੇ) ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਊਚ ਮੂਚ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸਰਬ ਊਪਰਿ ਤੁਹੀ ਏਕ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aooch mooch beant tthaakur sarab aoopar tuhee ek |1| rahaau |
You are Lofty and Exalted, Grand and Infinite, O my Lord and Master You alone are above all. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਇਕ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਰਾਖਾ) ਹੈਂ। ਤੂੰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਉੱਚਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਵੱਡਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰ ਦੁਖ ਬਿਦਾਰ ਦੈਨਹਾਰ ਬੁਧਿ ਬਿਬੇਕ ॥੧॥
praan adhaar dukh bidaar dainahaar budh bibek |1|
He is the Support of the breath of life, the Destroyer of pain, the Giver of discriminating understanding. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ) ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਚੰਗੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਕਰਮ ਦੀ ਪਰਖ ਕਰ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਕਲ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥
ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਰਖਨਹਾਰ ਮਨਿ ਅਰਾਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਕ ॥
namasakaar rakhanahaar man araadh prabhoo mek |
So bow down in respect to the Savior Lord worship and adore the One God.
ਸਿਰਫ਼ (ਉਸ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ, ਉਸ ਸਭ ਦੀ ਰਖਿਆ ਕਰ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਇਆ ਕਰੋ।
ਸੰਤ ਰੇਨੁ ਕਰਉ ਮਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੁਖ ਅਨੇਕ ॥੨॥੨॥੧੫॥
sant ren krau majan naanak paavai sukh anek |2|2|15|
Bathing in the dust of the feet of the Saints, Nanak is blessed with countless comforts. ||2||2||15||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮੈਂ (ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। (ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੰਤ-ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸੁਖ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੨॥੧੫॥
