ਕਿਉ ਨ ਅਰਾਧਹੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਧਹੁ ਘਰੀ ਮੁਹਤਕ ਬੇਲਾ ਆਈ ॥
kiau na araadhahu mil kar saadhahu gharee muhatak belaa aaee |
Why do you not worship and adore Him? Join together with the Holy Saints any instant, your time shall come.
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਘੜੀ ਅੱਧੀ ਘੜੀ ਨੂੰ (ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਇਥੋਂ ਕੂਚ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ) ਵੇਲਾ ਆ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਫਿਰ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਾ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰੋ?
ਅਰਥੁ ਦਰਬੁ ਸਭੁ ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਕਛਹੂ ਜਾਈ ॥
arath darab sabh jo kichh deesai sang na kachhahoo jaaee |
All your property and wealth, and all that you see - none of it will go along with you.
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਜੋ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਚੀਜ਼ (ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ) ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਰਾਧਹੁ ਕਵਨ ਉਪਮਾ ਦੇਉ ਕਵਨ ਬਡਾਈ ॥੨॥
kahu naanak har har aaraadhahu kavan upamaa deo kavan baddaaee |2|
Says Nanak, worship and adore the Lord, Har, Har. What praise, and what approval, can I offer to Him? ||2||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ। ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੱਸ ਸਕਦਾ। ਉਹ ਕੇਡਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ-ਇਹ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੱਸ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੨॥
ਪੂਛਉ ਸੰਤ ਮੇਰੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਕੈਸਾ ॥

I ask the Saints, what is my Lord and Master like?
(ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਮੈਂ ਪੁੱਛਦਾ ਹਾਂ-ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈ?
ਹੀਂਉ ਅਰਾਪਉਂ ਦੇਹੁ ਸਦੇਸਾ ॥
haneeo araapaun dehu sadesaa |
I offer my heart, to one who brings me news of Him.
ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਠਾਕੁਰ ਦੀ) ਖ਼ਬਰ ਦੱਸ, ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ (ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਭੇਟਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਦੇਹੁ ਸਦੇਸਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀਉ ਕੈਸਾ ਕਹ ਮੋਹਨ ਪਰਵੇਸਾ ॥
dehu sadesaa prabh jeeo kaisaa keh mohan paravesaa |
Give me news of my Dear God where does the Enticer live?
ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੱਸ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਮੋਹਨ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਗ ਅੰਗ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਈ ਥਾਨ ਥਾਨੰਤਰ ਦੇਸਾ ॥
ang ang sukhadaaee pooran brahamaaee thaan thaanantar desaa |
He is the Giver of peace to life and limb God is totally permeating all places, interspaces and countries.
(ਅੱਗੋਂ ਉੱਤਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ-) ਉਹ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਭ ਦੇਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ (ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਅੰਗ ਅੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬੰਧਨ ਤੇ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਜੁਗਤਾ ਕਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਜੈਸਾ ॥
bandhan te mukataa ghatt ghatt jugataa keh na skau har jaisaa |
He is liberated from bondage, joined to each and every heart. I cannot say what the Lord is like.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ (ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੈ ਮੈਂ ਦੱਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਦੇਖਿ ਚਰਿਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਪੂਛੈ ਦੀਨੁ ਮੇਰੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਕੈਸਾ ॥੩॥
dekh charit naanak man mohio poochhai deen mero tthaakur kaisaa |3|
Gazing upon His wondrous play, O Nanak, my mind is fascinated. I humbly ask, what is my Lord and Master like? ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚੋਜ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ) ਮੋਹਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਗਰੀਬ ਦਾਸ ਪੁੱਛਦਾ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਦੱਸ, ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਪਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
kar kirapaa apune peh aaeaa |
In His Kindness, He has come to His humble servant.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ (ਆਪ) ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਧੰਨਿ ਸੁ ਰਿਦਾ ਜਿਹ ਚਰਨ ਬਸਾਇਆ ॥
dhan su ridaa jih charan basaaeaa |
Blessed is that heart, in which the Lord's Feet are enshrined.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਚਰਨ ਬਸਾਇਆ ਸੰਤ ਸੰਗਾਇਆ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
charan basaaeaa sant sangaaeaa agiaan andher gavaaeaa |
His Feet are enshrined within, in the Society of the Saints the darkness of ignorance is dispelled.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿੱਕ ਕੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ (ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਵਸਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝੀ ਦਾ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਉਲਾਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲੋੜੀਦਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
bheaa pragaas ridai ulaas prabh lorreedaa paaeaa |
The heart is enlightened and illumined and enraptured God has been found.
(ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਚਿਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਲੋੜ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੁਖੁ ਨਾਠਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਵੂਠਾ ਮਹਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਸਹਜਾਇਆ ॥
dukh naatthaa sukh ghar meh vootthaa mahaa anand sahajaaeaa |
Pain is gone, and peace has come to my house. The ultimate intuitive peace prevails.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਖ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੈ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਪਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥੪॥੧॥
kahu naanak mai pooraa paaeaa kar kirapaa apune peh aaeaa |4|1|
Says Nanak, I have found the Perfect Lord in His Kindness, He has come to His humble servant. ||4||1||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਮੈਂ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਤਾਂ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧॥
ਸਾਰੰਗ ਕੀ ਵਾਰ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ਰਾਇ ਮਹਮੇ ਹਸਨੇ ਕੀ ਧੁਨਿ ॥

ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਰਾਗ ਸਾਰੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਗਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ 'ਸਲੋਕ'।
ਗੁਰੁ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਪਾਹੂ ਨਿਵਲੁ ਮਨੁ ਕੋਠਾ ਤਨੁ ਛਤਿ ॥
gur kunjee paahoo nival man kotthaa tan chhat |
The key of the Guru opens the lock of attachment, in the house of the mind, under the roof of the body.
(ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਮਨ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਕੋਠਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ (ਇਸ ਕੋਠੇ ਦਾ) ਛੱਤ ਹੈ, (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਪਾਹ (ਇਸ ਮਨ-ਕੋਠੇ ਨੂੰ) ਜੰਦਰਾ (ਵੱਜਾ ਹੋਇਆ) ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਜੰਦਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਖੋਲ੍ਹਣ ਲਈ) ਗੁਰੁ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਨ ਕਾ ਤਾਕੁ ਨ ਉਘੜੈ ਅਵਰ ਨ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹਥਿ ॥੧॥
naanak gur bin man kaa taak na ugharrai avar na kunjee hath |1|
O Nanak, without the Guru, the door of the mind cannot be opened. No one else holds the key in hand. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨ ਦਾ ਬੂਹਾ ਖੁਲ੍ਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ, ਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ (ਇਸ ਦੀ) ਕੁੰਜੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ॥੧॥

ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਰਾਗੀ ਨਾਦੀ ਬੇਦਿ ॥

He is not won over by music, songs or the Vedas.
ਰਾਗ ਗਾਣ ਨਾਲ, ਨਾਦ ਵਜਾਣ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਂ ਵੇਦ (ਆਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕ) ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਸੁਰਤੀ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜੋਗਿ ॥
n bheejai suratee giaanee jog |
He is not won over by intuitive wisdom, meditation or Yoga.
ਨਾਹ ਹੀ, ਸਮਾਧੀ ਲਾਇਆਂ ਗਿਆਨ-ਚਰਚਾ ਕੀਤਿਆ ਜਾਂ ਜੋਗ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਸਾਧਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਸੋਗੀ ਕੀਤੈ ਰੋਜਿ ॥

He is not won over by feeling sad and depressed forever.
ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਤ੍ਰੁਠਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਿਤ ਸੋਗ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ (ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸ੍ਰਾਵਗ ਸਰੇਵੜੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ)
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਰੂਪੀਂ ਮਾਲੀਂ ਰੰਗਿ ॥

He is not won over by beauty, wealth and pleasures.
ਰੂਪ, ਮਾਲ-ਧਨ ਤੇ ਰੰਗ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਚ ਰੁੱਝਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਜੀਵ ਉਤੇ) ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਭਵਿਐ ਨੰਗਿ ॥
n bheejai teerath bhaviai nang |
He is not won over by wandering naked at sacred shrines.
ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਭਿੱਜਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੀਰਥ ਤੇ ਨ੍ਹਾਤਿਆਂ ਜਾਂ ਨੰਗੇ ਭਵਿਆਂ।
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਦਾਤੀਂ ਕੀਤੈ ਪੁੰਨਿ ॥

He is not won over by giving donations in charity.
ਦਾਨ-ਪੁੰਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਰੱਬ ਰੀਝਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ,
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਬੈਠਿਆ ਸੁੰਨਿ ॥
n bheejai baahar baitthiaa sun |
He is not won over by living alone in the wilderness.
ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰ (ਜੰਗਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸੁੰਨ-ਮੁੰਨ ਬੈਠਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਸੀਜਦਾ।
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਭੇੜਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਭਿੜਿ ਸੂਰ ॥
n bheejai bherr mareh bhirr soor |
He is not won over by fighting and dying as a warrior in battle.
ਜੋਧੇ ਲੜਾਈ ਵਿਚ ਲੜ ਕੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਭੀ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ,
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਕੇਤੇ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਧੂੜ ॥
n bheejai kete hoveh dhoorr |
He is not won over by becoming the dust of the masses.
ਕਈ ਬੰਦੇ (ਸੁਆਹ ਆਦਿਕ ਮਲ ਕੇ) ਮਿੱਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਲਿੱਬੜਦੇ ਹਨ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਹ) ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
ਲੇਖਾ ਲਿਖੀਐ ਮਨ ਕੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
lekhaa likheeai man kai bhaae |
The account is written of the loves of the mind.
(ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ) ਪਰਖ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਭਾਵਨਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਭੀਜੈ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੨॥
naanak bheejai saachai naae |2|
O Nanak, the Lord is won over only by His Name. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ (ਜੁੜੀਏ) ॥੨॥

ਨਵ ਛਿਅ ਖਟ ਕਾ ਕਰੇ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
nav chhia khatt kaa kare beechaar |
You may study the nine grammars, the six Shaastras and the six divions of the Vedas.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਇਤਨਾ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਹੋਵੇ ਕਿ) ਨੌ ਵਿਆਕਰਣਾਂ, ਛੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਛੇ ਵੇਦਾਂਗ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਰਥ ਸਮਝ ਲਏ),
ਨਿਸਿ ਦਿਨ ਉਚਰੈ ਭਾਰ ਅਠਾਰ ॥
nis din ucharai bhaar atthaar |
You may recite the Mahaabhaarata.
ਅਠਾਰਾਂ ਪਰਵਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਹਾਭਾਰਤ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਰਹੇ,
ਤਿਨਿ ਭੀ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਤੋਹਿ ॥
tin bhee ant na paaeaa tohi |
Even these cannot find the limits of the Lord.
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਭੀ (ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ,
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਣ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਿਉ ਹੋਇ ॥
naam bihoon mukat kiau hoe |
Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, how can anyone be liberated?
(ਤੇਰੇ) ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਨਾਭਿ ਵਸਤ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੈ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥
naabh vasat brahamai ant na jaaniaa |
Brahma, in the lotus of the navel, does not know the limits of God.
ਕਮਲ ਦੀ ਨਾਭੀ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਦਾਜ਼ਾ ਨਾਹ ਲਾ ਸਕਿਆ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ॥੩॥

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਾਹ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਮਹਾਤਮ) ਸਮਝਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥

ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਆਪੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥

The Immaculate Lord Himself, by Himself, created Himself.
ਮਾਇਆ-ਰਹਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ) ਹੈ ਉਸਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ (ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ) ਪਰਗਟ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ
ਆਪੇ ਖੇਲੁ ਰਚਾਇਓਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥
aape khel rachaaeon sabh jagat sabaaeaa |
He Himself created the whole drama of all the world's play.
ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਰਚਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਆਪਿ ਸਿਰਜਿਅਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਵਧਾਇਆ ॥
trai gun aap sirajian maaeaa mohu vadhaaeaa |
He Himself formed the three gunas, the three qualities He increased the attachment to Maya.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਣਾਏ ਹਨ (ਤੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ (ਭੀ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ) ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਉਬਰੇ ਜਿਨ ਭਾਣਾ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
gur parasaadee ubare jin bhaanaa bhaaeaa |
By Guru's Grace, they are saved - those who love the Will of God.
(ਇਸ ਤ੍ਰੈ-ਗੁਣੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼) ਉਹ (ਜੀਵ) ਬਚਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ) ਰਜ਼ਾ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਸਭ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
naanak sach varatadaa sabh sach samaaeaa |1|
O Nanak, the True Lord is pervading everywhere all are contained within the True Lord. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਵਿਚ ਟਿੱਕੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥
