ਗੁਰਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਹਿ ਆਪੁ ਜਾਇ ॥

Contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and be rid of your ego.
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾ ਰੱਖੇਂ, ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਸਕੇਗਾ।
ਸਾਚ ਜੋਗੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਆਇ ॥੮॥

True Yoga shall come to dwell in your mind. ||8||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚਾਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਾ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦਿਤਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
jin jeeo pindd ditaa tis cheteh naeh |
He blessed you with body and soul, but you do not even think of Him.
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ,
ਮੜੀ ਮਸਾਣੀ ਮੂੜੇ ਜੋਗੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੯॥

You fool! Visiting graves and cremation grounds is not Yoga. ||9||
(ਤੇ ਸੁਆਹ ਮਲ ਕੇ ਮੜ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਮਸਾਣਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਡੇਰਾ ਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ) ਮੜ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਮਸਾਣਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਿਆਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੯॥
ਗੁਣ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਭਲੀ ਬਾਣਿ ॥

Nanak chants the sublime, glorious Bani of the Word.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਹੀ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਬਾਣੀ ਹੈ।
ਤੁਮ ਹੋਹੁ ਸੁਜਾਖੇ ਲੇਹੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ॥੧੦॥੫॥

Understand it, and appreciate it. ||10||5||
(ਇਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ) ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ (ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ ਤਾਂ) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਕਰਾਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਣਗੀਆਂ ॥੧੦॥੫॥

ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਅਧੁਲੀ ਕਾਰ ॥

In duality and evil-mindedness, the mortal acts blindly.
ਭੈੜੀ ਮੱਤ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਆਸਰੇ ਦੀ ਝਾਕ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਹੋ ਚੁਕੀ ਹੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭਰਮੈ ਮਝਿ ਗੁਬਾਰ ॥੧॥

The self-willed manmukh wanders, lost in the darkness. ||1||
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਠੇਡੇ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਪੰਧ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ) ॥੧॥
ਮਨੁ ਅੰਧੁਲਾ ਅੰਧੁਲੀ ਮਤਿ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
man andhulaa andhulee mat laagai |
The blind man follows blind advice.
ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨ ਉਸੇ ਮੱਤ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ (ਆਪ ਭੀ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਹੋਈ ਪਈ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਉਹ ਮਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਗੁਰ ਕਰਣੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur karanee bin bharam na bhaagai |1| rahaau |
Unless one takes the Guru's Way, his doubt is not dispelled. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥
manamukh andhule guramat na bhaaee |
The manmukh is blind he does not like the Guru's Teachings.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਦਿੱਤੀ) ਮੱਤ ਪਸੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ।
ਪਸੂ ਭਏ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥
pasoo bhe abhimaan na jaaee |2|
He has become a beast he cannot get rid of his egotistical pride. ||2||
(ਉਹ ਵੇਖਣ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਵਲੋਂ) ਪਸ਼ੂ ਹੋ ਚੁਕੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਆਕੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ ॥੨॥
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਏ ॥

God created 8.4 million species of beings.
ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਜੀਵ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਭਾਣੇ ਸਿਰਜਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੩॥
mere tthaakur bhaane siraj samaae |3|
My Lord and Master, by the Pleasure of His Will, creates and destroys them. ||3||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਉਸ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਦੀ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਸ ਭੀ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਸਗਲੀ ਭੂਲੈ ਨਹੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਚਾਰੁ ॥
sagalee bhoolai nahee sabad achaar |
All are deluded and confused, without the Word of the Shabad and good conduct.
ਪਰ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਹੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਈ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਦ ਤਕ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਸਾਂਦੀ, ਤੇ ਜਦ ਤਕ ਉਸ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਆਪਣਾ) ਕਰਤੱਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਾਂਦੀ।
ਸੋ ਸਮਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥੪॥
so samajhai jis gur karataar |4|
He alone is instructed in this, who is blessed by the Guru, the Creator. ||4||
ਉਹੀ ਜੀਵ (ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤੇ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਰਾਹਬਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਾਕਰ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਭਾਣੇ ॥

The Guru's servants are pleasing to our Lord and Master.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬਖਸਿ ਲੀਏ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਮ ਕਾਣੇ ॥੫॥
bakhas lee naahee jam kaane |5|
The Lord forgives them, and they no longer fear the Messenger of Death. ||5||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੁਥਾਜੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਏਕੋ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
jin kai hiradai eko bhaaeaa |
Those who love the One Lord with all their heart
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੬॥
aape mele bharam chukaaeaa |6|
- He dispels their doubts and unites them with Himself. ||6||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਬੇਮੁਹਤਾਜੁ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥

God is Independent, Endless and Infinite.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬੇ-ਮੁਥਾਜ ਹੈ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹਸਤੀ ਦਾ ਪਾਰਲਾ ਬੰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਸਚਿ ਪਤੀਜੈ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰਾ ॥੭॥
sach pateejai karanaihaaraa |7|
The Creator Lord is pleased with Truth. ||7||
ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਭੂਲੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਮਝਾਵੈ ॥
naanak bhoole gur samajhaavai |
O Nanak, the Guru instructs the mistaken soul.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ) ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ (ਹੀ) ਸਮਝਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਏਕੁ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਸਾਚਿ ਟਿਕਾਵੈ ॥੮॥੬॥
ek dikhaavai saach ttikaavai |8|6|
He implants the Truth within him, and shows him the One Lord. ||8||6||
ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਕਰਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੬॥

ਆਪੇ ਭਵਰਾ ਫੂਲ ਬੇਲਿ ॥

He Himself is the bumble bee, the fruit and the vine.
(ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਭੌਰਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਵੇਲ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਵੇਲਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਉੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਫੁੱਲ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੀਤ ਮੇਲਿ ॥੧॥
aape sangat meet mel |1|
He Himself unites us with the Sangat - the Congregation, and the Guru, our Best Friend. ||1||
ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਹੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਸਤ ਸੰਗੀ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਐਸੀ ਭਵਰਾ ਬਾਸੁ ਲੇ ॥

O bumble bee, suck in that fragrance,
(ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ) ਭੌਰਾ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ) ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਰਵਰ ਫੂਲੇ ਬਨ ਹਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

which causes the trees to flower, and the woods to grow lush foliage. ||1||Pause||
ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜੰਗਲ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੁੱਖ ਹਰੇ ਤੇ ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਲੱਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ (ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਰੁਮਕਦੀ ਦਿੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਆਪੇ ਕਵਲਾ ਕੰਤੁ ਆਪਿ ॥
aape kavalaa kant aap |
He Himself is Lakshmi, and He Himself is her husband.
(ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਲੱਛਮੀ (ਮਾਇਆ) ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਲੱਛਮੀ ਦਾ ਪਤੀ ਹੈ,
ਆਪੇ ਰਾਵੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਥਾਪਿ ॥੨॥

He established the world by Word of His Shabad, and He Himself ravishes it. ||2||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਮਾਣ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਆਪੇ ਬਛਰੂ ਗਊ ਖੀਰੁ ॥
aape bachharoo gaoo kheer |
He Himself is the calf, the cow and the milk.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਵੱਛਾ ਹੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਗਾਂ ਦਾ) ਦੁੱਧ ਹੈ,
ਆਪੇ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਥੰਮੑੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥੩॥
aape mandar thamau sareer |3|
He Himself is the Support of the body-mansion. ||3||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮੰਦਰ ਹੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਮੰਦਰ ਦਾ) ਥੰਮ੍ਹ ਹੈ, (ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਹੈ ਤੇ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਰੀਰ ॥੩॥
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥

He Himself is the Deed, and He Himself is the Doer.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਰਨ-ਜੋਗ ਕੰਮ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ (ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ),
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੪॥

As Gurmukh, He contemplates Himself. ||4||
ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਤੂ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
too kar kar dekheh karanahaar |
You create the creation, and gaze upon it, O Creator Lord.
(ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਦਰ ਤੇ ਇਉਂ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਜੀਵ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ
ਜੋਤਿ ਜੀਅ ਅਸੰਖ ਦੇਇ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥੫॥

You give Your Support to the uncounted beings and creatures. ||5||
ਬੇਅੰਤ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਦੇ ਕੇ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ) ॥੫॥
ਤੂ ਸਰੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਹੀਰੁ ॥

You are the Profound, Unfathomable Ocean of Virtue.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਥਾਹ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈਂ।
ਤੂ ਅਕੁਲ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਪਰਮ ਹੀਰੁ ॥੬॥

You are the Unknowable, the Immaculate, the most Sublime Jewel. ||6||
ਤੇਰੀ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਕੁਲ ਨਹੀਂ, ਤੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਆਪਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੀ, ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹੀਰਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੬॥
ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਣ ਜੋਗੁ ॥

You Yourself are the Creator, with the Potency to create.
(ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਇਉਂ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-) ਹੇ ਰਾਜਨ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲੁ ਰਾਜਨ ਸੁਖੀ ਲੋਗੁ ॥੭॥

You are the Independent Ruler, whose people are at peace. ||7||
ਹੇ ਰਾਜਨ! ਤੂੰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ-ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈਂ, ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਆਦਿ ॥

Nanak is satisfied with the subtle taste of the Lord's Name.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਵਿਚ ਮਗਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਜਨਮੁ ਬਾਦਿ ॥੮॥੭॥
bin har gur preetam janam baad |8|7|
Without the Beloved Lord and Master, life is meaningless. ||8||7||
(ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੭॥

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਉ ਸਤ ਚਉਦਹ ਤੀਨਿ ਚਾਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਹਲਤਿ ਚਾਰਿ ਬਹਾਲੀ ॥
nau sat chaudah teen chaar kar mahalat chaar bahaalee |
The nine regions, the seven continents, the fourteen worlds, the three qualities and the four ages - You established them all through the four sources of creation, and You seated them in Your mansions.
(ਜਦੋਂ ਇਥੇ ਹਿੰਦੂ-ਰਾਜ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਲੋਕ ਹੇਂਦਕੇ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ ਹੀ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਸਨ ਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ ਕਿ) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਨੌ ਖੰਡ, ਸੱਤ ਦੀਪ, ਚੌਦਾਂ ਭਵਨ, ਤਿੰਨ ਲੋਕ ਤੇ ਚਾਰ ਜੁਗ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਚਾਰ ਖਾਣੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਇਸ (ਸ਼੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ-) ਹਵੇਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਵਸਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
ਚਾਰੇ ਦੀਵੇ ਚਹੁ ਹਥਿ ਦੀਏ ਏਕਾ ਏਕਾ ਵਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
chaare deeve chahu hath dee ekaa ekaa vaaree |1|
He placed the four lamps, one by one, into the hands of the four ages. ||1||
ਤੂੰ (ਚਾਰ ਵੇਦ-ਰੂਪ) ਚਾਰ ਦੀਵੇ ਚੌਹਾਂ ਜੁਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੀ ਵਾਰੀ ਫੜਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ॥੧॥
ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨ ਮਾਧੌ ਐਸੀ ਸਕਤਿ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
miharavaan madhusoodan maadhau aisee sakat tumaaree |1| rahaau |
O Merciful Lord, Destroyer of demons, Lord of Lakshmi, such is Your Power - Your Shakti. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਟਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਖਸਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਜਿਥੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹਿੰਦੂ-ਧਰਮ ਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਲੋਕ ਆਪਣੀ ਘਰੋਗੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੇਂਦਕੇ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਸਨ, ਉਥੇ ਹੁਣ ਤੂੰ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨੀ ਰਾਜ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਭੀ ਬਦਲ ਗਈ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਲਸਕਰੁ ਪਾਵਕੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਧਰਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਸਿਕਦਾਰੀ ॥
ghar ghar lasakar paavak teraa dharam kare sikadaaree |
Your army is the fire in the home of each and every heart. And Dharma - righteous living is the ruling chieftain.
ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰਾ ਲਸ਼ਕਰ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉਤੇ (ਤੇਰਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ) ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਸਰਦਾਰੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇਗ ਮਿਲੈ ਇਕ ਵੇਰਾ ਭਾਗੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਭੰਡਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
dharatee deg milai ik veraa bhaag teraa bhanddaaree |2|
The earth is Your great cooking pot Your beings receive their portions only once. Destiny is Your gate-keeper. ||2||
(ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਲਸ਼ਕਰ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਧਰਤੀ (-ਰੂਪ) ਦੇਗ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇਕੋ ਵਾਰੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਅਖੁੱਟ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ) ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਬਧ ਤੇਰਾ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ਵਰਤਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਨਾ ਸਾਬੂਰੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਮੰਗੈ ਨਾਰਦੁ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਆਰੀ ॥
naa saaboor hovai fir mangai naarad kare khuaaree |
But the mortal becomes unsatisfied, and begs for more his fickle mind brings him disgrace.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਇਤਨਾ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ ਮਨ) ਨਾਰਦ (ਜੀਵ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਖ਼ੁਆਰੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਿਦਕ-ਹੀਣਾ ਮਨ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ (ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਮੰਗਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
