ਗੁਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਦਿਖਾਇਓ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ॥੧॥
gur sang dikhaaeo raam raae |1|
The Guru has shown me that my Sovereign Lord God is with me. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼-ਰੂਪ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਿਸ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵਿਖਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥
ਮਿਲੁ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਬਨੇ ॥
mil sakhee sahelee har gun bane |
Joining together with my friends and companions, I am adorned with the Lord's Glorious Virtues.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ! ਰਲ ਕੇ ਬੈਠੋ (ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੋ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣੇ ਹੀ (ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ) ਫਬਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਗਿ ਖੇਲਹਿ ਵਰ ਕਾਮਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖੋਜਤ ਮਨ ਮਨੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har prabh sang kheleh var kaaman guramukh khojat man mane |1| rahaau |
The sublime soul-brides play with their Lord God. The Gurmukhs look within themselves their minds are filled with faith. ||1||Pause||
ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਜੇਹੜੀਆਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਖੇਡਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ) ਪਤੀਜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮਨਮੁਖੀ ਦੁਹਾਗਣਿ ਨਾਹਿ ਭੇਉ ॥
manamukhee duhaagan naeh bheo |
The self-willed manmukhs, suffering in separation, do not understand this mystery.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਭਾਗ-ਹੀਣ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਗੁੱਝੀ ਗੱਲ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ,
ਓਹੁ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਾਵੈ ਸਰਬ ਪ੍ਰੇਉ ॥

The Beloved Lord of all celebrates in each and every heart.
ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਥਿਰੁ ਚੀਨੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਦੇਉ ॥

The Gurmukh is stable, knowing that God is always with him.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼-ਰੂਪ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੇਖਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਜਪੁ ਜਪੇਉ ॥੨॥

The Guru has implanted the Naam within me I chant it, and meditate on it. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਸੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਜਪਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਭਾਉ ਹੋਇ ॥
bin gur bhagat na bhaau hoe |
Without the Guru, devotional love does not well up within.
(ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਾਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੰਤ ਨ ਸੰਗੁ ਦੇਇ ॥
bin gur sant na sang dee |
Without the Guru, one is not blessed with the Society of the Saints.
ਸੰਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਹ (ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਆਪਣਾ ਸਾਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਧੰਧੁ ਰੋਇ ॥
bin gur andhule dhandh roe |
Without the Guru, the blind cry out, entangled in worldly affairs.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ-ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ ਜੰਜਾਲ ਹੀ ਵਿਆਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮਲੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਖੋਇ ॥੩॥
man guramukh niramal mal sabad khoe |3|
That mortal who becomes Gurmukh becomes immaculate the Word of the Shabad washes away his filth. ||3||
ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ਼ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਗੁਰਿ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰਿਓ ਕਰਿ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ॥

Uniting with the Guru, the mortal conquers and subdues his mind.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ) ਸੰਜੋਗ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਲੋਂ) ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ,
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਰਾਵੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਜੋਗੁ ॥
ahinis raave bhagat jog |
Day and night, he savors the Yoga of devotional worship.
ਉਹ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਰੋਗੁ ॥
gur sant sabhaa dukh mittai rog |
Associating with the Saint Guru, suffering and sickness are ended.
ਸੰਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਬੈਠਿਆਂ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ) ਦੁੱਖ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਸਹਜ ਜੋਗੁ ॥੪॥੬॥
jan naanak har var sehaj jog |4|6|
Servant Nanak merges with his Husband Lord, in the Yoga of intuitive ease. ||4||6||
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਡੋਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੬॥

ਆਪੇ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਸਾਜਿ ॥

By His Creative Power, God fashioned the creation.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਾਜ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਰਚਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਚੁ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਬੇੜੇ ਰਾਜੁ ਰਾਜਿ ॥
sach aap niberre raaj raaj |
The King of kings Himself adminsters true justice.
(ਇਸ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਵਿਚ) ਆਪਣਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਚਲਾ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ) ਫ਼ੈਸਲੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਾਥਿ ॥

The most sublime Word of the Guru's Teachings is always with us.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਮੱਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਸਾਇਣੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਆਥਿ ॥੧॥
har naam rasaaein sehaj aath |1|
The wealth of the Lord's Name, the source of nectar, is easily acquired. ||1||
ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਡੋਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ) ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਮਤ ਬਿਸਰਸਿ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਰਾਮ ਬੋਲਿ ॥
mat bisaras re man raam bol |
So chant the Name of the Lord do not forget it, O my mind.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਬੋਲ। (ਵੇਖੀਂ) ਕਿਤੇ ਭੁਲਾ ਨਾ ਦੇਈਂ।
ਅਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਤੁਲਾਏ ਅਤੁਲੁ ਤੋਲਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aparanpar agam agochar guramukh har aap tulaae atul tol |1| rahaau |
The Lord is Infinite, Inaccessible and Incomprehensible His weight cannot be weighed, but He Himself allows the Gurmukh to weigh Him. ||1||Pause||
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈ, ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਤੋਲ ਵਿਚ ਅਤੁੱਲ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਦਾਜ਼ਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ)। ਪਰ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ (ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਤੁਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਆਪ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨ ਸਰੇਵਹਿ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਤੋਰ ॥

Your GurSikhs serve at the Guru's Feet.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ (ਸੇਵਕ) ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵ ਤਰੇ ਤਜਿ ਮੇਰ ਤੋਰ ॥

Serving the Guru, they are carried across they have abandoned any distinction between 'mine' and 'yours'.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਮੇਰ-ਤੇਰ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਰ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਲੋਭੀ ਮਨਿ ਕਠੋਰ ॥

The slanderous and greedy people are hard-hearted.
ਪਰ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਮਨੋਂ ਕਠੋਰ ਹਨ,
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵ ਨ ਭਾਈ ਸਿ ਚੋਰ ਚੋਰ ॥੨॥
gur sev na bhaaee si chor chor |2|
Those who do not love to serve the Guru are the most thieving of thieves. ||2||
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਦ੍ਰਵਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਚੰਗੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਉਹ ਮਹਾਂ ਚੋਰ ਹਨ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਚੋਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੈ) ॥੨॥
ਗੁਰੁ ਤੁਠਾ ਬਖਸੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਉ ॥
gur tutthaa bakhase bhagat bhaau |
When the Guru is pleased, He blesses the mortals with loving devotional worship of the Lord.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਿ ਤੁਠੈ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਮਹਲਿ ਠਾਉ ॥
gur tutthai paaeeai har mehal tthaau |
When the Guru is pleased, the mortal obtains a place in the Mansion of the Lord's Presence.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਥਾਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪਰਹਰਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਜਾਗੁ ॥
parahar nindaa har bhagat jaag |
So renounce slander, and awaken in devotional worship of the Lord.
ਉਹ ਪਰਾਈ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਵਧਾਨਤਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੀ ਕਰਮਿ ਭਾਗੁ ॥੩॥
har bhagat suhaavee karam bhaag |3|
Devotion to the Lord is wonderful it comes through good karma and destiny. ||3||
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ) ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਹਿੱਸਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਕਰੇ ਦਾਤਿ ॥
gur mel milaavai kare daat |
The Guru unites in union with the Lord, and grants the gift of the Name.
ਗੁਰੂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ) ਦਾਤ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥

The Guru loves His Sikhs, day and night.
ਉਹ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਸਾਂਭ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ)।
ਫਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਤੁਸਿ ਦੇਇ ॥

They obtain the fruit of the Naam, when the Guru's favor is bestowed.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜੋ ਇਨਸਾਨੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਅਸਲ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਹੈ, ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਕੇਇ ॥੪॥੭॥

Says Nanak, those who receive it are very rare indeed. ||4||7||
(ਪਰ) ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥੭॥
ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਇਕ ਤੁਕਾ ॥

Basant, Third Mehl, Ek-Thukay:
ਸਾਹਿਬ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੈ ॥
saahib bhaavai sevak sevaa karai |
When it pleases our Lord and Master, His servant serves Him.
ਜੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਆਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ (ਕੋਈ) ਸੇਵਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ (ਭਗਤੀ) ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਸਭਿ ਕੁਲ ਉਧਰੈ ॥੧॥
jeevat marai sabh kul udharai |1|
He remains dead while yet alive, and redeems all his ancestors. ||1||
ਉਹ ਸੇਵਕ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਕਾਰ-ਵਿਹਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਲੋਂ ਉਪਰਾਮ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੁਲ ਭੀ (ਇਸ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਛੋਡਉ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਹਸੈ ॥
teree bhagat na chhoddau kiaa ko hasai |
I shall not renounce Your devotional worship, O Lord what does it matter if people laugh at me?
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਾਂਗਾ (ਭਾਵੇਂ ਇਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਜਗਤ ਹਾਸੇ-ਮਖ਼ੌਲ ਕਰੇ), ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਹਾਸੇ ਦੀ ਪਰਵਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ[
ਸਾਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saach naam merai hiradai vasai |1| rahaau |
The True Name abides within my heart. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ! ਤੇਰਾ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਰਹੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜੈਸੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਗਲਤੁ ਰਹੈ ॥
jaise maaeaa mohi praanee galat rahai |
Just as the mortal remains engrossed in attachment to Maya,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਉਹ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਂਦਾ),
ਤੈਸੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਰਵਤ ਰਹੈ ॥੨॥
taise sant jan raam naam ravat rahai |2|
so does the Lord's humble Saint remain absorbed in the Lord's Name. ||2||
ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਮੈ ਮੂਰਖ ਮੁਗਧ ਊਪਰਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਦਇਆ ॥
mai moorakh mugadh aoopar karahu deaa |
I am foolish and ignorant, O Lord please be merciful to me.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਮੂਰਖ ਅੰਞਾਣ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ,
ਤਉ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਰਹਉ ਪਇਆ ॥੩॥
tau saranaagat rhau peaa |3|
May I remain in Your Sanctuary. ||3||
(ਤਾ ਕਿ) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਾਂ ॥੩॥
ਕਹਤੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਕੇ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਕਾਮਾ ॥
kehat naanak sansaar ke nihafal kaamaa |
Says Nanak, worldly affairs are fruitless.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ (ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਵਿਅਰਥ (ਸਾਬਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ) ਹਨ (ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ ਨਿਰੇ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਧੰਧਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਖਚਿਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਕੋ ਪਾਵੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮਾ ॥੪॥੮॥
gur prasaad ko paavai amrit naamaa |4|8|
Only by Guru's Grace does one receive the Nectar of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||8||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੮॥

ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਲ ਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਬਿਪ ਪੂਜਿ ਮਨਾਵਹੁ ਸੁਕ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਤੁਲਸੀ ਮਾਲਾ ॥
saal graam bip pooj manaavahu sukrit tulasee maalaa |
O Brahmin, you worship and believe in your stone-god, and wear your ceremonial rosary beads.
ਹੇ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ! ਉਸ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰੋ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਕਰੋ, ਇਹੀ ਹੀ ਸਾਲਗ੍ਰਾਮ (ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ)। ਨੇਕ ਆਚਰਨ ਬਣਾਓ, ਇਹ ਹੈ ਤੁਲਸੀ ਦੀ ਮਾਲਾ।
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਬੇੜਾ ਬਾਂਧਹੁ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥੧॥
raam naam jap berraa baandhahu deaa karahu deaalaa |1|
Chant the Name of the Lord. Build your boat, and pray, "O Merciful Lord, please be merciful to me." ||1||
ਹੇ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣ ਲਈ) ਇਹ ਬੇੜਾ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰੋ, (ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰੋ ਤੇ ਆਖੋ-) ਹੇ ਦਿਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਦਇਆ ਕਰ (ਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇਹ) ॥੧॥
