ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ॥
satigur sevee sabad suhaaeaa |
I serve the True Guru the Word of His Shabad is beautiful.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਸਰਾ-ਪਰਨਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੰਵਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥
jin har kaa naam man vasaaeaa |
Through it, the Name of the Lord comes to dwell within the mind.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਗਵਾਏ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
har niramal haumai mail gavaae dar sachai sobhaa paavaniaa |2|
The Pure Lord removes the filth of egotism, and we are honored in the True Court. ||2||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ, ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸੋਭਾ ਖੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
bin gur naam na paaeaa jaae |
Without the Guru, the Naam cannot be obtained.
ਪਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਰੂ (ਦੀ ਸਰਨ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ।
ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਰਹੇ ਬਿਲਲਾਇ ॥
sidh saadhik rahe bilalaae |
The Siddhas and the seekers lack it they weep and wail.
ਜੋਗ-ਸਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੇ ਜੋਗ-ਸਾਧਨ ਵਿਚ ਪੁੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੋਗੀ ਤਰਲੇ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਰਹਿ ਗਏ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
bin gur seve sukh na hovee poorai bhaag gur paavaniaa |3|
Without serving the True Guru, peace is not obtained through perfect destiny, the Guru is found. ||3||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ, ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਆਰਸੀ ਕੋਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਖੈ ॥
eihu man aarasee koee guramukh vekhai |
This mind is a mirror how rare are those who, as Gurmukh, see themselves in it.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਆਰਸੀ (looking-glass) ਸਮਾਨ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵੇਖ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ) ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਜੰਗਾਲ ਲੱਗਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।)
ਮੋਰਚਾ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਜਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਸੋਖੈ ॥
morachaa na laagai jaa haumai sokhai |
Rust does not stick to those who burn their ego.
ਜਦੋਂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੁਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ (ਫਿਰ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ) ਜੰਗਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ (ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ-ਪਰਖ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਅਨਹਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਜਾਏ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
anahat baanee niramal sabad vajaae gurasabadee sach samaavaniaa |4|
The Unstruck Melody of the Bani resounds through the Pure Word of the Shabad through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, we are absorbed into the True One. ||4||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਬਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ-ਰਸ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਕਰੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਿਹੁ ਨ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
bin satigur kihu na dekhiaa jaae |
Without the True Guru, the Lord cannot be seen.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਭੀ (ਆਪਣਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ) ਵੇਖਿਆ-ਪਰਖਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਗੁਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਆਪੁ ਦਿਤਾ ਦਿਖਾਇ ॥
gur kirapaa kar aap ditaa dikhaae |
Granting His Grace, He Himself has allowed me to see Him.
(ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਖਾਇਆ ਹੈ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਹੀ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਉਸਦਾ) ਆਪਣਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਖਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
aape aap aap mil rahiaa sahaje sehaj samaavaniaa |5|
All by Himself, He Himself is permeating and pervading He is intuitively absorbed in celestial peace. ||5||
(ਫਿਰ ਉਸ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਨਿਸਚਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪੇ ਦੀ ਵੇਖ-ਪਰਖ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਇਕਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
guramukh hovai su ikas siau liv laae |
One who becomes Gurmukh embraces love for the One.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੂਜਾ ਭਰਮੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥
doojaa bharam gur sabad jalaae |
Doubt and duality are burned away by the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵਣਜੁ ਕਰੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
kaaeaa andar vanaj kare vaapaaraa naam nidhaan sach paavaniaa |6|
Within his body, he deals and trades, and obtains the Treasure of the True Name. ||6||
ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਹਰ ਭਟਕਣੋਂ ਰੋਕ ਕੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਵਣਜ ਵਪਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
guramukh karanee har keerat saar |
The life-style of the Gurmukh is sublime he sings the Praises of the Lord.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਕਰਨ-ਜੋਗ ਕੰਮ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਉੱਦਮ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਏ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
guramukh paae mokh duaar |
The Gurmukh finds the gate of salvation.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਹ (ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਾ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
anadin rang rataa gun gaavai andar mehal bulaavaniaa |7|
Night and day, he is imbued with the Lord's Love. He sings the Lord's Glorious Praises, and he is called to the Mansion of His Presence. ||7||
ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਬੁਲਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੭॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥
satigur daataa milai milaaeaa |
The True Guru, the Giver, is met when the Lord leads us to meet Him.
ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ (ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ, ਨਾਮ ਦੀ) ਦਾਤ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ) ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ) ਮਿਲਾਏ।
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਨਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥
poorai bhaag man sabad vasaaeaa |
Through perfect destiny, the Shabad is enshrined in the mind.
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਪੂਰੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਸਚੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੯॥੧੦॥
naanak naam milai vaddiaaee har sache ke gun gaavaniaa |8|9|10|
O Nanak, the greatness of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is obtained by chanting the Glorious Praises of the True Lord. ||8||9||10||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੯॥੧੦॥

Maajh, Third Mehl:
ਆਪੁ ਵੰਞਾਏ ਤਾ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
aap vanyaae taa sabh kichh paae |
Those who lose their own selves obtain everything.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ (ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ) ਦੂਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਉੱਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹਰੇਕ ਗੁਣ ਗ੍ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਸਚੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
gurasabadee sachee liv laae |
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they enshrine Love for the True one.
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਲਗਨ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚੁ ਵਣੰਜਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਸੰਘਰਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
sach vananjeh sach sanghareh sach vaapaar karaavaniaa |1|
They trade in Truth, they gather in Truth, and they deal only in Truth. ||1||
(ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੌਦਾ ਵਿਹਾਝਦੇ ਹਨ, ਨਾਮ ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਵਪਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਤਸੰਗੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਭੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ) ॥੧॥
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
hau vaaree jeeo vaaree har gun anadin gaavaniaa |
I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, night and day.
ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜੇਹੜੇ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਉ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
hau teraa toon tthaakur meraa sabad vaddiaaee devaniaa |1| rahaau |
I am Yours, You are my Lord and Master. You bestow greatness through the Word of Your Shabad. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਹਾਂ, (ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ) ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈਂ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਇਹ ਦਾਤ ਦੇਹ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਵੇਲਾ ਵਖਤ ਸਭਿ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ॥
velaa vakhat sabh suhaaeaa |
That time, that moment is totally beautiful,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਕਤ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਜਿਤੁ ਸਚਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
jit sachaa mere man bhaaeaa |
when the True One becomes pleasing to my mind.
ਜਿਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਜਿਸ ਵਕਤ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗੇ।
ਸਚੇ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸਚੁ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
sache seviai sach vaddiaaee gur kirapaa te sach paavaniaa |2|
Serving the True One, true greatness is obtained. By Guru's Grace, the True One is obtained. ||2||
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (-ਰੂਪ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਭਾਉ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਤੁਠੈ ਪਾਏ ॥

The food of spiritual love is obtained when the True Guru is pleased.
ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਅਨ ਰਸੁ ਚੂਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
an ras chookai har ras man vasaae |
Other essences are forgotten, when the Lord's Essence comes to dwell in the mind.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਚਸਕਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
sach santokh sehaj sukh baanee poore gur te paavaniaa |3|
Truth, contentment and intuitive peace and poise are obtained from the Bani, the Word of the Perfect Guru. ||3||
ਉਹ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੰਤੋਖ ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਅੰਧ ਗਵਾਰਾ ॥

The blind and ignorant fools do not serve the True Guru
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋਏ ਮੂਰਖ ਗੰਵਾਰ ਬੰਦੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ-ਪਰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈਂਦੇ,
ਫਿਰਿ ਓਇ ਕਿਥਹੁ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥
fir oe kithahu paaein mokh duaaraa |
how will they find the gate of salvation?
ਉਹ ਫਿਰ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਥਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦੇ।
ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
mar mar jameh fir fir aaveh jam dar chottaa khaavaniaa |4|
They die and die, over and over again, only to be reborn, over and over again. They are struck down at Death's Door. ||4||
ਉਹ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਕੇ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਜਮਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸੱਟਾਂ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥
ਸਬਦੈ ਸਾਦੁ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਤਾ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ॥
sabadai saad jaaneh taa aap pachhaaneh |
Those who know the essence of the Shabad, understand their own selves.
ਜਦੋਂ ਕੋਈ (ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀ ਬੰਦੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਜਾਣ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ (ਪਰਖਦੇ ਪੜਤਾਲਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ॥

Immaculate is the speech of those who chant the Word of the Shabad.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਉਚਾਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਚੇ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
sache sev sadaa sukh paaein nau nidh naam man vasaavaniaa |5|
Serving the True One, they find a lasting peace they enshrine the nine treasures of the Naam within their minds. ||5||
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਇਉਂ) ਵਸਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਜਿਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ) ਨੌ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ (ਹੈ) ॥੫॥
ਸੋ ਥਾਨੁ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
so thaan suhaaeaa jo har man bhaaeaa |
Beautiful is that place, which is pleasing to the Lord's Mind.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਉਹ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਥਾਂ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਬਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ॥
satasangat beh har gun gaaeaa |
There, sitting in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, the Glorious Praises of the Lord are sung.
(ਤੇ ਉਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਥਾਂ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਏ ਹਨ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਲਾਹਹਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਦੁ ਵਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
anadin har saalaaheh saachaa niramal naad vajaavaniaa |6|
Night and day, the True One is praised the Immaculate Sound-current of the Naad resounds there. ||6||
ਅਜੇਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਵਾਜਾ ਵਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੬॥
