ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੈ ॥
karam hovai gur kirapaa karai |
When the mortal has good karma, the Guru grants His Grace.
ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ (ਜੀਵ ਉੱਤੇ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਜਾਗੈ ਇਸੁ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮਰੈ ॥੪॥
eihu man jaagai is man kee dubidhaa marai |4|
Then this mind is awakened, and the duality of this mind is subdued. ||4||
ਤਾਂ (ਜੀਵ ਦਾ) ਇਹ ਮਨ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਜਾਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਮੇਰ-ਤੇਰ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਮਨ ਕਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਸਦਾ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ॥
man kaa subhaau sadaa bairaagee |
It is the innate nature of the mind to remain forever detached.
(ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਦਾ ਅਸਲਾ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਵਸੈ ਅਤੀਤੁ ਅਨਰਾਗੀ ॥੫॥

The Detached, Dispassionate Lord dwells within all. ||5||
ਜੋ ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਵਿਰਕਤ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਨਿਰਮੋਹ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਕਹਤ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਭੇਉ ॥
kehat naanak jo jaanai bheo |
Says Nanak, one who understands this mystery,
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੇ ਇਸ ਅਸਲੇ ਬਾਰੇ) ਇਹ ਭੇਤ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਦੇਉ ॥੬॥੫॥
aad purakh niranjan deo |6|5|
becomes the embodiment of the Primal, Immaculate, Divine Lord God. ||6||5||
ਉਹ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੀ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕਾ ਕੇ) ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਢ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਚਾਨਣ-ਰੂਪ ਹੈ ॥੬॥੫॥

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਗਤ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥

The world is saved through Name of the Lord.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ ਪਾਰ-ਉਤਾਰਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਭਵਜਲੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
bhavajal paar utaaranahaaraa |1|
It carries the mortal across the terrifying world-ocean. ||1||
ਅਤੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਣ ਦੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮੑਾਲਿ ॥

By Guru's Grace, dwell upon the Lord's Name.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦਾ ਪਾਤ੍ਰ ਬਣ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਸੰਭਾਲ।
ਸਦ ਹੀ ਨਿਬਹੈ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sad hee nibahai terai naal |1| rahaau |
It shall stand by you forever. ||1||Pause||
ਇਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਥ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਗਾਵਾਰਾ ॥
naam na cheteh manamukh gaavaaraa |
The foolish self-willed manmukhs do not remember the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੈਸੇ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਪਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
bin naavai kaise paaveh paaraa |2|
Without the Name, how will they cross over? ||2||
ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਭੀ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੰਘ ਸਕਦੇ ॥੨॥
ਆਪੇ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥
aape daat kare daataar |
The Lord, the Great Giver, Himself gives His Gifts.
(ਪਰ, ਇਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ) ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰੇ ਕਉ ਜੈਕਾਰੁ ॥੩॥

Celebrate and praise the Great Giver! ||3||
(ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਦੇਣ ਦੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੀ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਮੰਗਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ) ॥੩॥
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥

Granting His Grace, the Lord unites the mortals with the True Guru.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਏ ॥੪॥੬॥

O Nanak, the Naam is enshrined within the heart. ||4||6||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੬॥

ਨਾਮੇ ਉਧਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਲੋਅ ॥

All people are saved through the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਚੌਦਾਂ ਭਵਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਿਨਾ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥

Those who become Gurmukh are blessed to receive It. ||1||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਅਪਣੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
har jeeo apanee kripaa karee |
When the Dear Lord showers His Mercy,
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

He blesses the Gurmukh with the glorious greatness of the Naam. ||1||Pause||
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਾ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਨਾਮ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਅਸਲ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਜਿਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

Those who love the Beloved Name of the Lord
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ,
ਆਪਿ ਉਧਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਕੁਲ ਉਧਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
aap udhare sabh kul udhaaranahaar |2|
save themselves, and save all their ancestors. ||2||
ਉਹ ਆਪ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਗਏ। (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ) ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕੁਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਣ-ਜੋਗਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ॥੨॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
bin naavai manamukh jam pur jaeh |
Without the Name, the self-willed manmukhs go to the City of Death.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਜਮਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਦੇਸ ਵਿਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਅਉਖੇ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਹਿ ॥੩॥
aaukhe hoveh chottaa khaeh |3|
They suffer in pain and endure beatings. ||3||
ਉਹ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ, (ਤੇ ਨਿੱਤ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ) ਸੱਟਾਂ ਸਹਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਦੇਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
aape karataa devai soe |
When the Creator Himself gives,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੭॥

O Nanak, then the mortals receive the Naam. ||4||7||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੭॥

Love of the Lord of the Universe saved Sanak and his brother, the sons of Brahma.
ਸਨਕ, ਸਨੰਦਨ, ਸਨਤਾਨ, ਸਨਤਕੁਮਾਰ-ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਦੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਚਾਰ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ- ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ (ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਪਿਆਰ ਨੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
raam naam sabad beechaare |1|
They contemplated the Word of the Shabad, and the Name of the Lord. ||1||
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਅਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੁ ॥
har jeeo apanee kirapaa dhaar |
O Dear Lord, please shower me with Your Mercy,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੀ ਰੱਖ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

that as Gurmukh, I may embrace love for Your Name. ||1||Pause||
ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਮੇਰਾ) ਪਿਆਰ (ਤੇਰੇ) ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਾਚੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
antar preet bhagat saachee hoe |
Whoever has true loving devotional worship deep within his being
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ-ਭਗਤੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
poorai gur melaavaa hoe |2|
meets the Lord, through the Perfect Guru. ||2||
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
nij ghar vasai sehaj subhaae |
He naturally, intuitively dwells within the home of his own inner being.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਕਰੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੩॥

The Naam abides within the mind of the Gurmukh. ||3||
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਵੇਖਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
aape vekhai vekhanahaar |
The Lord, the Seer, Himself sees.
ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਭ ਦੀ) ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖਹੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੪॥੮॥
naanak naam rakhahu ur dhaar |4|8|
O Nanak, enshrine the Naam within your heart. ||4||8||

ਇਸ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ-ਭਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮਾਥੈ ਪਾਵੈ ਛਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
bin naavai maathai paavai chhaar |1|
Without the Name, ashes will be blown in your face. ||1||
(ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ (ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਦੀ) ਨਿਰਾਦਰੀ ਹੀ ਖੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੁਲਭੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ॥
raam naam dulabh hai bhaaee |
The Lord's Name is so difficult to obtain, O Siblings of Destiny.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਹੋਰ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਬੜੀ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਿਲ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

(ਇਹ ਤਾਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਕਿਸੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਨ ਭਾਲਹਿ ਸੋਇ ॥

That humble being who seeks the Lord's Name,
ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭਾਲਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
poore gur te praapat hoe |2|
receives it from the Perfect Guru. ||2||
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ (ਲਿਖੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ) ॥੨॥
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨਹਿ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
har kaa bhaanaa maneh se jan paravaan |
Those humble beings who accept the Will of the Lord, are approved and accepted.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ (ਮਿੱਠਾ ਕਰਕੇ) ਮੰਨਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ) ਸਤਕਾਰੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਾਮ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥੩॥
gur kai sabad naam neesaan |3|
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they bear the insignia of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||3||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ (ਦੀ ਪਰਾਪਤੀ) ਦਾ ਪਰਵਾਨਾ (ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੩॥
ਸੋ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਜੋ ਕਲ ਰਹਿਆ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
so sevahu jo kal rahiaa dhaar |
So serve the One, whose power supports the Universe.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰੋ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰੋ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੪॥੯॥
naanak guramukh naam piaar |4|9|
O Nanak, the Gurmukh loves the Naam. ||4||9||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੀ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੱਤਿਆ ਨਾਲ ਤੋਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੯॥

Bhairao, Third Mehl:
ਕਲਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥
kalajug meh bahu karam kamaeh |
In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, many rituals are performed.
ਜਿਹੜੇ (ਕਰਮ-ਕਾਂਡੀ ਲੋਕ) ਕਲਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ (ਮਿਥੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ) ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਨਾ ਰੁਤਿ ਨ ਕਰਮ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
naa rut na karam thaae paeh |1|
But it is not the time for them, and so they are of no use. ||1||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਹ ਕਰਮ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ) ਕਬੂਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਭੀ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਕਰਮ ਦੀ ਹੁਣ) ਰੁੱਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਕਲਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਸਾਰੁ ॥

In Kali Yuga, the Lord's Name is the most sublime.
(ਜੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਵਲ ਭੀ ਵੇਖੋ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ) ਕਲਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਜਪਣਾ ਹੀ) ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ (ਕੰਮ) ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

As Gurmukh, be lovingly attached to Truth. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਖੋਜਿ ਘਰੈ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
tan man khoj gharai meh paaeaa |
Searching my body and mind, I found Him within the home of my own heart.
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਤਨ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਖੋਜ ਕੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੨॥

The Gurmukh centers his consciousness on the Lord's Name. ||2||
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਿਆ ॥੨॥
