ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੀਅ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
lakh chauraaseeh jeea upaae |
He created the 8.4 million species of beings.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਜੀਵ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ,
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
jis no nadar kare tis guroo milaae |
Those, upon whom He casts His Glance of Grace, come to meet the Guru.
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਉੱਤੇ ਉਹ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਕਾਟਿ ਸਦਾ ਜਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
kilabikh kaatt sadaa jan niramal dar sachai naam suhaavaniaa |6|
Shedding their sins, His servants are forever pure at the True Court, they are beautified by the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||6||
(ਗੁਰੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ) ਬੰਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ-ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੬॥
ਲੇਖਾ ਮਾਗੈ ਤਾ ਕਿਨਿ ਦੀਐ ॥
lekhaa maagai taa kin deeai |
When they are called to settle their accounts, who will answer then?
(ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਸਦਾ ਭੁੱਲਣਹਾਰ ਹਾਂ) ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਸਾਡੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ) ਹਿਸਾਬ ਮੰਗਣ ਲੱਗੇ, ਤਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇ ਸਕਦਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਲੇਖੇ ਵਿਚ ਪੂਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਉਤਰ ਸਕਦਾ)।
ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਫੁਨਿ ਦੂਐ ਤੀਐ ॥
sukh naahee fun dooai teeai |
There shall be no peace then, from counting out by twos and threes.
(ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ) ਲੇਖਾ ਗਿਣਾਇਆਂ (ਭਾਵ, ਲੇਖੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਖ਼ਰੂ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਤੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
aape bakhas le prabh saachaa aape bakhas milaavaniaa |7|
The True Lord God Himself forgives, and having forgiven, He unites them with Himself. ||7||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
aap kare tai aap karaae |
He Himself does, and He Himself causes all to be done.
(ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਭ ਕੁਝ) ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥

Through the Shabad, the Word of the Perfect Guru, He is met.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੨॥੩॥
naanak naam milai vaddiaaee aape mel milaavaniaa |8|2|3|
O Nanak, through the Naam, greatness is obtained. He Himself unites in His Union. ||8||2||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ) ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੨॥੩॥

Maajh, Third Mehl:
ਇਕੋ ਆਪਿ ਫਿਰੈ ਪਰਛੰਨਾ ॥

The One Lord Himself moves about imperceptibly.
(ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ-ਮਾਨ ਜਗਤ-ਰੂਪ ਪਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਢੱਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ (ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਵਿਚਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਖਾ ਤਾ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਭਿੰਨਾ ॥
guramukh vekhaa taa ihu man bhinaa |
As Gurmukh, I see Him, and then this mind is pleased and uplifted.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਗੁਪਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ) ਜਦੋਂ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰਸ ਵਿਚ) ਭਿੱਜ ਗਿਆ।
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਤਜਿ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਏਕੋ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
trisanaa taj sehaj sukh paaeaa eko man vasaavaniaa |1|
Renouncing desire, I have found intuitive peace and poise I have enshrined the One within my mind. ||1||
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ, ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸ ਪਿਆ ॥੧॥
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਇਕਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
hau vaaree jeeo vaaree ikas siau chit laavaniaa |
I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who focus their consciousness on the One.
ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹਾਂ, ਜੇਹੜੇ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਮਨੁ ਇਕਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ਸਚੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰੰਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
guramatee man ikat ghar aaeaa sachai rang rangaavaniaa |1| rahaau |
Through the Guru's Teachings, my mind has come to its only home it is imbued with the True Color of the Lord's Love. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ (ਸਦਾ ਲਈ) ਰੰਗੇ ਗਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਭੂਲਾ ਤੈਂ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ॥
eihu jag bhoolaa tain aap bhulaaeaa |
This world is deluded You Yourself have deluded it.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ?) ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਇਕੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਲੋਭਾਇਆ ॥
eik visaar doojai lobhaaeaa |
Forgetting the One, it has become engrossed in duality.
ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭੂਲਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
anadin sadaa firai bhram bhoolaa bin naavai dukh paavaniaa |2|
Night and day, it wanders around endlessly, deluded by doubt without the Name, it suffers in pain. ||2||
ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਗਤ ਸਦਾ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਾਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਜੋ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਕਰਮ ਬਿਧਾਤੇ ॥
jo rang raate karam bidhaate |
Those who are attuned to the Love of the Lord, the Architect of Destiny
ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਜਾਤੇ ॥
gur sevaa te jug chaare jaate |
by serving the Guru, they are known throughout the four ages.
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਦੇਇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
jis no aap dee vaddiaaee har kai naam samaavaniaa |3|
Those, upon whom the Lord bestows greatness, are absorbed in the Name of the Lord. ||3||
(ਪਰ ਇਹ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਹੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਹੈ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮੁਨੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤੈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
maaeaa mohi har chetai naahee |
Being in love with Maya, they do not think of the Lord.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਖਦਾ,
ਜਮਪੁਰਿ ਬਧਾ ਦੁਖ ਸਹਾਹੀ ॥
jamapur badhaa dukh sahaahee |
Bound and gagged in the City of Death, they suffer in terrible pain.
ਉਹ (ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਬੱਝਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਮ ਦੀ ਨਗਰੀ ਵਿਚ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਕਾਬੂ ਵਿਚ ਆਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ) ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਨਾ ਬੋਲਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਪਾਪਿ ਪਚਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
anaa bolaa kichh nadar na aavai manamukh paap pachaavaniaa |4|
Blind and deaf, they see nothing at all the self-willed manmukhs rot away in sin. ||4||
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਸੁਣਨ ਤੋਂ ਅਸਮਰਥ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਕੁਝ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ। ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਪਾਪ (ਵਾਲੇ ਜੀਵਨ) ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸੜਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥
ਇਕਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
eik rang raate jo tudh aap liv laae |
Those, whom You attach to Your Love, are attuned to Your Love.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ ਲਾਈ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਏ ॥
bhaae bhagat terai man bhaae |
Through loving devotional worship, they become pleasing to Your Mind.
(ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ (ਤੇਰੀ) ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਹ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਸਭ ਇਛਾ ਆਪਿ ਪੁਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
satigur sevan sadaa sukhadaataa sabh ichhaa aap pujaavaniaa |5|
They serve the True Guru, the Giver of eternal peace, and all their desires are fulfilled. ||5||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਇੱਛਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੫॥
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
har jeeo teree sadaa saranaaee |
O Dear Lord, I seek Your Sanctuary forever.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਤੱਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿਹਿ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
aape bakhasihi de vaddiaaee |
You Yourself forgive us, and bless us with Glorious Greatness.
ਤੂੰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
jamakaal tis nerr na aavai jo har har naam dhiaavaniaa |6|
The Messenger of Death does not draw near those who meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||6||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਉਸਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕ ਸਕਦੀ ॥੬॥
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੇ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਏ ॥

Night and day, they are attuned to His Love they are pleasing to the Lord.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ (ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
merai prabh mele mel milaae |
My God merges with them, and unites them in Union.
ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਸਚੁ ਬੁਝਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
sadaa sadaa sache teree saranaaee toon aape sach bujhaavaniaa |7|
Forever and ever, O True Lord, I seek the Protection of Your Sanctuary You Yourself inspire us to understand the Truth. ||7||
ਹੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੭॥
ਜਿਨ ਸਚੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਸੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ॥
jin sach jaataa se sach samaane |
Those who know the Truth are absorbed in Truth.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਵਖਾਣੇ ॥
har gun gaaveh sach vakhaane |
They sing the Lord's Glorious Praises, and speak the Truth.
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰ ਉਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਉਸਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੩॥੪॥
naanak naam rate bairaagee nij ghar taarree laavaniaa |8|3|4|
O Nanak, those who are attuned to the Naam remain unattached and balanced in the home of the inner self, they are absorbed in the primal trance of deep meditation. ||8||3||4||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਉਪਰਾਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ (ਬਾਹਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਭਟਕਣ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ) ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੮॥੩॥੪॥

Maajh, Third Mehl:
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਸੁ ਮੁਆ ਜਾਪੈ ॥
sabad marai su muaa jaapai |
One who dies in the Word of the Shabad is truly dead.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ (ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਵਲੋਂ) ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਵਲੋਂ) ਮਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਆਦਰ-ਮਾਣ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਚਾਪੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਸੰਤਾਪੈ ॥
kaal na chaapai dukh na santaapai |
Death does not crush him, and pain does not afflict him.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ (ਆਪਣੇ ਪੰਜੇ ਵਿਚ) ਫਸਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਦੁਖੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਜੋਤੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
jotee vich mil jot samaanee sun man sach samaavaniaa |1|
His light merges and is absorbed into the Light, when he hears and merges in the Truth. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਤੇ, ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਇ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
hau vaaree jeeo vaaree har kai naae sobhaa paavaniaa |
I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to the Lord's Name, which brings us to glory.
ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜੋ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਸੋਭਾ ਖੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਚਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
satigur sev sach chit laaeaa guramatee sehaj samaavaniaa |1| rahaau |
One who serves the True Guru, and focuses his consciousness on Truth, following the Guru's Teachings, is absorbed in intuitive peace and poise. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕਾਇਆ ਕਚੀ ਕਚਾ ਚੀਰੁ ਹੰਢਾਏ ॥
kaaeaa kachee kachaa cheer handtaae |
This human body is transitory, and transitory are the garments it wears.
ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹੈ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਜਿਹਾ ਕੱਪੜਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਇਸ) ਜਰਜਰੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਹਢਾਂਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿੰਦ ਸਰੀਰਕ ਭੋਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਗਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ)।
ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
doojai laagee mehal na paae |
Attached to duality, no one attains the Mansion of the Lord's Presence.
(ਜਿੰਦ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ।
