ਬਿਖਿਆ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਲਬੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਕਾ ਦੋਰਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
bikhiaa kaaran lab lobh kamaaveh duramat kaa doraahaa he |9|
For the sake of poison, they act in greed and possessiveness, and evil-minded duality. ||9||
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ (ਕਮਾਣ) ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਲੱਬ ਲੋਭ (ਨੂੰ ਚਮਕਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ) ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ ਖੋਟੀ ਮੱਤ ਦਾ ਦੁ-ਚਿੱਤਾ-ਪਨ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੯॥
ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥

The Perfect True Guru implants devotional worship within.
ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
gur kai sabad har naam chit laae |
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he lovingly centers his consciousness on the Lord's Name.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਭੀਨੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
man tan har raviaa ghatt antar man bheenai bhagat salaahaa he |10|
The Lord pervades his mind, body and heart deep within, his mind is drenched with devotional worship and praise of the Lord. ||10||
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ) ਮਨ ਭਿੱਜਿਆਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੇ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਅਸੁਰ ਸੰਘਾਰਣੁ ॥
meraa prabh saachaa asur sanghaaran |
My True Lord God is the Destroyer of demons.
ਮੇਰਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਣੁ ॥
gur kai sabad bhagat nisataaran |
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, His devotees are saved.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ (ਜੋੜ ਕੇ) (ਆਪਣੀ) ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ (ਲਾ ਕੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਾਹਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
meraa prabh saachaa sad hee saachaa sir saahaa paatisaahaa he |11|
My True Lord God is forever True. He is the Emperor over the heads of kings. ||11||
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਤਾਂ ਸ਼ਾਹਾਂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ (ਭੀ ਹੁਕਮ ਚਲਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹੈ ॥੧੧॥
ਸੇ ਭਗਤ ਸਚੇ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਏ ॥
se bhagat sache terai man bhaae |
True are those devotees, who are pleasing to Your Mind.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਉਹੀ ਭਗਤ ਅਡੋਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ
ਦਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਏ ॥
dar keeratan kareh gur sabad suhaae |
They sing the Kirtan of His Praises at His Door they are embellished and exalted by the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ (ਟਿਕ ਕੇ) ਤੇਰ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਨਿਰਧਨ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵੇਸਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
saachee baanee anadin gaaveh niradhan kaa naam vesaahaa he |12|
Night and day, they sing the True Word of His Bani. The Naam is the wealth of the poor. ||12||
ਉਹ ਭਗਤ ਜਨ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਨਾਮ-) ਧਨ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਲਈ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
ਜਿਨ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਵਿਛੋੜਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
jin aape mel vichhorreh naahee |
Those whom You unite, Lord, are never separated again.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜ ਕੇ (ਫਿਰ) ਵਿਛੋੜਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈਂ,
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ॥
gur kai sabad sadaa saalaahee |
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they praise You forever.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਭਨਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਤੂ ਏਕੋ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
sabhanaa sir too eko saahib sabade naam salaahaa he |13|
You are the One Lord and Master over all. Through the Shabad, the Naam is praised. ||13||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ। (ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ (ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਤੇਰਾ) ਨਾਮ (ਜਪ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ) ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧੩॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਤੁਧੁਨੋ ਕੋਈ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥
bin sabadai tudhuno koee na jaanee |
Without the Shabad, no one knows You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ,
ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਕਥੀ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਣੀ ॥
tudh aape kathee akath kahaanee |
You Yourself speak the Unspoken Speech.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਅਕੱਥ ਸਰੂਪ ਦਾ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਆਪੇ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਸੰਬਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
aape sabad sadaa gur daataa har naam jap sanbaahaa he |14|
You Yourself are the Shabad forever, the Guru, the Great Giver chanting the Lord's Name, You bestow Your treasure. ||14||
ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ-ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਆਇਆ ਹੈਂ, ਗੁਰੂ-ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਇਹ ਦਾਤਿ) ਦੇਂਦਾ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੧੪॥
ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
too aape karataa sirajanahaaraa |
You Yourself are the Creator of the Universe.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨੂੰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਹੈਂ।
ਤੇਰਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
teraa likhiaa koe na mettanahaaraa |
No one can erase what You have written.
ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਲਿਖੇ ਲੇਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਟਾਣ-ਜੋਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਸਹਸਾ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
guramukh naam deveh too aape sahasaa ganat na taahaa he |15|
You Yourself bless the Gurmukh with the Naam, who is no longer skeptical, and is not held to account. ||15||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, (ਤੇ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਸਹਮ ਕੋਈ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧੫॥
ਭਗਤ ਸਚੇ ਤੇਰੈ ਦਰਵਾਰੇ ॥
bhagat sache terai daravaare |
Your true devotees stand at the Door of Your Court.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਸੁਰਖ਼ਰੂ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਸਬਦੇ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਭਾਇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
sabade sevan bhaae piaare |
They serve the Shabad with love and affection.
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਨਾਮੇ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਸੋਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੩॥੧੨॥
naanak naam rate bairaagee naame kaaraj sohaa he |16|3|12|
O Nanak, those who are attuned to the Naam remain detached through the Naam, their affairs are resolved. ||16||3||12||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਅਸਲ) ਤਿਆਗੀ ਹਨ, ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਕੰਮ ਸਫਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੬॥੩॥੧੨॥

Maaroo, Third Mehl:
ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਇਕੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥
merai prabh saachai ik khel rachaaeaa |
My True Lord God has staged a play.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ (ਇਹ ਜਗਤ) ਇਕ ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਰਚਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਕੋਇ ਨ ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਜੇਹਾ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
koe na kis hee jehaa upaaeaa |
He has created no one like anyone else.
(ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਾਇਆ।
ਆਪੇ ਫਰਕੁ ਕਰੇ ਵੇਖਿ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਸਭਿ ਰਸ ਦੇਹੀ ਮਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
aape farak kare vekh vigasai sabh ras dehee maahaa he |1|
He made them different, and he gazes upon them with pleasure he placed all the flavors in the body. ||1||
ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਫ਼ਰਕ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ (ਇਹ ਫ਼ਰਕ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਫਿਰ ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਚਸਕੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਵਾਜੈ ਪਉਣੁ ਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਵਜਾਏ ॥
vaajai paun tai aap vajaae |
You Yourself vibrate the beat of the breath.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਤੇਰੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਲਾ ਨਾਲ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ) ਸੁਆਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਾਜਾ ਵੱਜ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਸੁਆਸ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ), ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਸੁਆਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਾਜੇ ਵਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਸਿਵ ਸਕਤੀ ਦੇਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਏ ॥
siv sakatee dehee meh paae |
Shiva and Shakti, energy and matter - You have placed them into the body.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹੀ) ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਉਲਟੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
gur parasaadee ulattee hovai giaan ratan sabad taahaa he |2|
By Guru's Grace, one turns away from the world, and attains the jewel of spiritual wisdom, and the Word of the Shabad. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ ਪਰਤਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਗੁਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਆਪੇ ਕੀਆ ॥
andheraa chaanan aape keea |
He Himself created darkness and light.
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ) ਹਨੇਰਾ ਅਤੇ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਦਾ) ਚਾਨਣ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਏਕੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਬੀਆ ॥
eko varatai avar na beea |
He alone is pervasive there is no other at all.
(ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਕਮਲੁ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਬੁਧਿ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
gur parasaadee aap pachhaanai kamal bigasai budh taahaa he |3|
One who realizes his own self - by Guru's Grace, the lotus of his mind blossoms forth. ||3||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੜਤਾਲਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਕੌਲ-ਫੁੱਲ ਖਿੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਪਰਖ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ) ਅਕਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਈ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਅਪਣੀ ਗਹਣ ਗਤਿ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
apanee gehan gat aape jaanai |
Only He Himself knows His depth and extent.
ਆਪਣੀ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੋਰੁ ਲੋਕੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥
hor lok sun sun aakh vakhaanai |
Other people can only listen and hear what is spoken and said.
ਜਗਤ ਤਾਂ (ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਸੁਣ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ (ਫਿਰ) ਆਖ ਕੇ (ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗਿਆਨੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਸਾਚੀ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
giaanee hovai su guramukh boojhai saachee sifat salaahaa he |4|
One who is spiritually wise, understands himself as Gurmukh he praises the True Lord. ||4||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ (ਇਸ ਭੇਤ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਦੇਹੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
dehee andar vasat apaaraa |
Deep within the body is the priceless object.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ (ਹੀ) ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਪਦਾਰਥ (ਮੌਜੂਦ) ਹੈ,
ਆਪੇ ਕਪਟ ਖੁਲਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
aape kapatt khulaavanahaaraa |
He Himself opens the doors.
(ਪਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਭਿੱਤ ਵੱਜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ), ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਕਿਵਾੜਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖੋਲ੍ਹਣ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
guramukh sahaje amrit peevai trisanaa agan bujhaahaa he |5|
The Gurmukh intuitively drings in the Ambrosial Nectar, and the fire of desire is quenched. ||5||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਬੁਝਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਸਭਿ ਰਸ ਦੇਹੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਏ ॥
sabh ras dehee andar paae |
He placed all the flavors within the body.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਚਸਕੇ ਭੀ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ (ਨਾਮ-ਵਸਤੂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਲੱਭੇ?)।
ਵਿਰਲੇ ਕਉ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
virale kau gur sabad bujhaae |
How rare are those who understand, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਦਰੁ ਖੋਜੇ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕਾਹੇ ਜਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
andar khoje sabad saalaahe baahar kaahe jaahaa he |6|
So search within yourself, and praise the Shabad. Why run around outside your self? ||6||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਖੋਜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸ਼ਬਦ (ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਫਿਰ ਉਹ ਬਾਹਰ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ॥੬॥
ਵਿਣੁ ਚਾਖੇ ਸਾਦੁ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥
vin chaakhe saad kisai na aaeaa |
Without tasting, no one enjoys the flavor.
(ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ) ਚੱਖਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ (ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਸੁਆਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਆਇਆ ॥

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, one drinks in the Ambrosial Nectar.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਇਹ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀ ਅਮਰਾ ਪਦੁ ਹੋਏ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਸੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
amrit pee amaraa pad hoe gur kai sabad ras taahaa he |7|
The Ambrosial Nectar is drunk, and the immoral status is obtained, when one obtains the sublime essence of the Guru's Shabad. ||7||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਉਹ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਪੀ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਥੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਆਪਣਾ ਅਸਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੀ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦਾ) ਸੁਆਦ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਸੋ ਸਭਿ ਗੁਣ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
aap pachhaanai so sabh gun jaanai |
One who realizes himself, knows all virtues.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੜਤਾਲਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ (ਰੱਬੀ) ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
