Maaroo, Fifth Mehl:
ਜੀਵਨਾ ਸਫਲ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੁਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਸਦ ਜੀਵਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jeevanaa safal jeevan sun har jap jap sad jeevanaa |1| rahaau |
Fruitful is the life, the life of one who hears about the Lord, and chants and meditates on Him he lives forever. ||1||Pause||
ਜੀਊਣ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਜੀਊਣਾ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਪੀਵਨਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਮਨੁ ਆਘਾਵੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵਨਾ ॥੧॥
peevanaa jit man aaghaavai naam amrit ras peevanaa |1|
The real drink is that which satisfies the mind this drink is the sublime essence of the Ambrosial Naam. ||1||
ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਰਸ ਪੀਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਪੀਣ ਐਸਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਨ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਖਾਵਨਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਭੂਖ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਸੰਤੋਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੀਵਨਾ ॥੨॥
khaavanaa jit bhookh na laagai santokh sadaa tripateevanaa |2|
The real food is that which will never leave you hungry again it will leave you contented and satisfied forever. ||2||
ਨਾਮ-ਭੋਜਨ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੀ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਬਣਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦੀ, ਸੰਤੋਖ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਰੱਜੇ ਰਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਪੈਨਣਾ ਰਖੁ ਪਤਿ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਫਿਰਿ ਨਾਗੇ ਨਹੀ ਥੀਵਨਾ ॥੩॥
painanaa rakh pat paramesur fir naage nahee theevanaa |3|
The real clothes are those which protect your honor before the Transcendent Lord, and do not leave you naked ever again. ||3||
ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਪਤੀ-ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਕੱਪੜਾ ਹੀ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਰੱਖ, ਫਿਰ ਕਦੇ ਸਿਰੋਂ ਨੰਗੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਭੋਗਨਾ ਮਨ ਮਧੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਲੀਵਨਾ ॥੪॥
bhoganaa man madhe har ras santasangat meh leevanaa |4|
The real enjoyment within the mind is to be absorbed in the sublime essence of the Lord, in the Society of the Saints. ||4||
ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਾਣਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਹੀ ਪੀਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਤਾਗੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੂਈ ਆਨੀ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੀਵਨਾ ॥੫॥
bin taage bin sooee aanee man har bhagatee sang seevanaa |5|
Sew devotional worship to the Lord into the mind, without any needle or thread. ||5||
(ਕਿਸੇ ਸੂਈ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ, ਕਿਸੇ ਧਾਗੇ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੇ ਰਹੀਏ) ਬਿਨਾ ਸੂਈ ਧਾਗਾ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਸੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਮਾਤਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਅਉਖੀਵਨਾ ॥੬॥
maatiaa har ras meh raate tis bahurr na kabahoo aaukheevanaa |6|
Imbued and intoxicated with the sublime essence of the Lord, this experience will never wear off again. ||6||
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਅਸਲ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹਨ ਇਹ ਨਸ਼ਾ ਮੁੜ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਘਟਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ॥੬॥
ਮਿਲਿਓ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੀਵਨਾ ॥੭॥
milio tis sarab nidhaanaa prabh kripaal jis deevanaa |7|
One is blessed with all treasures, when God, in His Mercy, gives them. ||7||
ਪਰ, ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ- ਦਾਤ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ॥੭॥
ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਚਰਣ ਸੰਤ ਧੋਇ ਪੀਵਨਾ ॥੮॥੩॥੬॥
sukh naanak santan kee sevaa charan sant dhoe peevanaa |8|3|6|
O Nanak, service to the Saints beings peace I drink in the wash water of the feet of the Saints. ||8||3||6||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਅਸਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਧੋ ਕੇ ਪੀਣ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਗ਼ਰੀਬੀ-ਭਾਵ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਹੈ) ॥੮॥੩॥੬॥

ਰਾਗ ਮਾਰੂ, ਘਰ ੮ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ 'ਅੰਜੁਲੀਆਂ'।
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਚਿੰਤਾ ॥
jis grihi bahut tisai grihi chintaa |
The household which is filled with abundance - that household suffers anxiety.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ (ਹਿਰਦੇ-) ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਚਿੰਤਾ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਕਿਤੇ ਖੁੱਸ ਨਾਹ ਜਾਏ)।
ਜਿਸੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਥੋਰੀ ਸੁ ਫਿਰੈ ਭ੍ਰਮੰਤਾ ॥
jis grihi thoree su firai bhramantaa |
One whose household has little, wanders around searching for more.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਥੋੜੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੁਹੂ ਬਿਵਸਥਾ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਸੋਈ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਭਾਲੀਐ ॥੧॥
duhoo bivasathaa te jo mukataa soee suhelaa bhaaleeai |1|
He alone is happy and at peace, who is liberated from both conditions. ||1||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਹਾਲਤਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੌਖਾ ਵੇਖੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਰਾਜ ਮਹਿ ਨਰਕੁ ਉਦਾਸ ਕਰੋਧਾ ॥
grih raaj meh narak udaas karodhaa |
Householders and kings fall into hell, along with renunciates and angry men,
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਦੇ ਐਸ਼੍ਵਰਜ ਵਿਚ ਰੁੱਝਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚ) ਨਰਕ (ਭੋਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ) ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਦੇ ਜੰਜਾਲਾਂ ਦਾ) ਤਿਆਗ ਕਰ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਬੇਦ ਪਾਠ ਸਭਿ ਸੋਧਾ ॥
bahu bidh bed paatth sabh sodhaa |
and all those who study and recite the Vedas in so many ways.
ਭਾਵੇਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਈ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰੇ ਵੇਦ-ਪਾਠ ਸੋਧੇ ਹੋਣ।
ਦੇਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਜੋ ਰਹੈ ਅਲਿਪਤਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਘਾਲੀਐ ॥੨॥
dehee meh jo rahai alipataa tis jan kee pooran ghaaleeai |2|
Perfect is the work of that humble servant, who remains unattached while in the body. ||2||
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਸਿਰੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਕਿਰਤ-ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ) ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਜਾਗਤ ਸੂਤਾ ਭਰਮਿ ਵਿਗੂਤਾ ॥
jaagat sootaa bharam vigootaa |
The mortal sleeps, even while he is awake he is being plundered by doubt.
(ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਬੱਝਾ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ) ਜਾਗਦਾ ਸੁੱਤਾ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਹੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈਐ ਮੀਤਾ ॥
bin gur mukat na hoeeai meetaa |
Without the Guru, liberation is not obtained, friend.
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਤੁਟਹਿ ਹਉ ਬੰਧਨ ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਨਿਹਾਲੀਐ ॥੩॥
saadhasang tutteh hau bandhan eko ek nihaaleeai |3|
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the bonds of egotism are released, and one comes to behold the One and only Lord. ||3||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਟੁੱਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਕਰਮ ਕਰੈ ਤ ਬੰਧਾ ਨਹ ਕਰੈ ਤ ਨਿੰਦਾ ॥
karam karai ta bandhaa neh karai ta nindaa |
Doing deeds, one is placed in bondage but if he does not act, he is slandered.
(ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਮਿਥੇ ਹੋਏ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ) ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਜਕੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਜੇ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਇਹ ਕਰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਤਾਂ ਕਰਮ-ਕਾਂਡੀ ਲੋਕ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮੋਹ ਮਗਨ ਮਨੁ ਵਿਆਪਿਆ ਚਿੰਦਾ ॥
moh magan man viaapiaa chindaa |
Intoxicated with emotional attachment, the mind is afflicted with anxiety.
ਸੋ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਨੱਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਮ ਜਾਣੈ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਹਿਆਲੀਐ ॥੪॥
gur prasaad sukh dukh sam jaanai ghatt ghatt raam hiaaleeai |4|
One who looks alike upon pleasure and pain, by Guru's Grace, sees the Lord in each and every heart. ||4||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੁਖ ਅਤੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਇਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਸੰਸਾਰੈ ਮਹਿ ਸਹਸਾ ਬਿਆਪੈ ॥
sansaarai meh sahasaa biaapai |
Within the world, one is afflicted by skepticism
ਜਗਤ (ਦੇ ਧੰਧਿਆਂ) ਵਿਚ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਨ ਕੋਈ) ਸਹਮ ਨੱਪੀ ਹੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ
ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਪੈ ॥
akath kathaa agochar nahee jaapai |
he does not know the imperceptible Unspoken Speech of the Lord.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਕੱਥ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁੱਝਦੀ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ਓਹੁ ਬਾਲਕ ਵਾਗੀ ਪਾਲੀਐ ॥੫॥
jiseh bujhaae soee boojhai ohu baalak vaagee paaleeai |5|
He alone understands, whom the Lord inspires to understand. The Lord cherishes him as His child. ||5||
(ਪਰ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ?) ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤਾ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਬੱਚੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਪਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਛੋਡਿ ਬਹੈ ਤਉ ਛੂਟੈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
chhodd bahai tau chhoottai naahee |
He may try to abandon Maya, but he is not released.
(ਜਦੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਲੋਂ) ਛੱਡ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ (ਭੀ ਮਾਇਆ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੀ।
ਜਉ ਸੰਚੈ ਤਉ ਭਉ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
jau sanchai tau bhau man maahee |
If he collects things, then his mind is afraid of losing them.
ਜਦੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਇਕੱਠੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ (ਇਕੱਠੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਡਰ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਕਿਤੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਚਲੀ ਨਾਹ ਜਾਏ)।
ਇਸ ਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਪਤਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਚਉਰੁ ਢਾਲੀਐ ॥੬॥
eis hee meh jis kee pat raakhai tis saadhoo chaur dtaaleeai |6|
I wave the fly-brush over that holy person, whose honor is protected in the midst of Maya. ||6||
ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਚੰਵਰ ਝੁਲਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਜੋ ਸੂਰਾ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਹੋਇ ਮਰਣਾ ॥
jo sooraa tis hee hoe maranaa |
He alone is a warrior hero, who remains dead to the world.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ ਸੂਰਮਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ ਉਪਰਾਮਤਾ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ
ਜੋ ਭਾਗੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਜੋਨੀ ਫਿਰਣਾ ॥
jo bhaagai tis jonee firanaa |
One who runs away will wander in reincarnation.
ਪਰ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ) ਭਾਂਜ ਖਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਵਰਤਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਭਲ ਮਾਨੈ ਬੁਝਿ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਜਾਲੀਐ ॥੭॥
jo varataae soee bhal maanai bujh hukamai duramat jaaleeai |7|
Whatever happens, accept that as good. Realize the Hukam of His Command, and your evil-mindedness will be burnt away. ||7||
(ਸੂਰਮਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਉਸੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਰਤਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਖੋਟੀ ਮੱਤ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਜਿਤੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਹਿ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਗਨਾ ॥
jit jit laaveh tith tit laganaa |
Whatever He links us to, to that we are linked.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਸੇ ਉਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਅਪਣੇ ਜਚਨਾ ॥
kar kar vekhai apane jachanaa |
He acts, and does, and watches over His Creation.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ ਤੂ ਦੇਹਿ ਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲੀਐ ॥੮॥੧॥੭॥
naanak ke pooran sukhadaate too dehi ta naam samaaleeai |8|1|7|
You are the Giver of peace, the Perfect Lord of Nanak as You grant Your blessings, I dwell upon Your Name. ||8||1||7||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਦੇਵੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੧॥੭॥

Maaroo, Fifth Mehl:
ਬਿਰਖੈ ਹੇਠਿ ਸਭਿ ਜੰਤ ਇਕਠੇ ॥

Beneath the tree, all beings have gathered.
(ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸੂਰਜ ਡੁੱਬਣ ਵੇਲੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਪੰਛੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਰੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਆ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਇਸ ਆਕਾਸ਼-ਰੁੱਖ ਹੇਠ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ-ਜੰਤ ਆ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ,
ਇਕਿ ਤਤੇ ਇਕਿ ਬੋਲਨਿ ਮਿਠੇ ॥

Some are hot-headed, and some speak very sweetly.
ਕਈ ਖਰ੍ਹਵੇ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਈ ਮਿੱਠੇ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅਸਤੁ ਉਦੋਤੁ ਭਇਆ ਉਠਿ ਚਲੇ ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਅਉਧ ਵਿਹਾਣੀਆ ॥੧॥
asat udot bheaa utth chale jiau jiau aaudh vihaaneea |1|
Sunset has come, and they rise up and depart their days have run their course and expired. ||1||
ਡੁੱਬਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੂਰਜ ਜਦੋਂ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਮੁੜ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ (ਪੰਛੀ ਰੁੱਖ ਉਤੋਂ) ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਉੱਡ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਤਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ) ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ) ਉਮਰ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਪੰਛੀਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਇਥੋਂ ਕੂਚ ਕਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ॥੧॥
ਪਾਪ ਕਰੇਦੜ ਸਰਪਰ ਮੁਠੇ ॥

Those who committed sins are sure to be ruined.
ਇਥੇ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੀਵ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ) ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਲੁਟਾ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਅਜਰਾਈਲਿ ਫੜੇ ਫੜਿ ਕੁਠੇ ॥

Azraa-eel, the Angel of Death, seizes and tortures them.
ਪਾਪ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਫ਼ਰਿਸ਼ਤਾ ਫੜ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਕੁਹੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
