ਕਲਰ ਖੇਤੀ ਤਰਵਰ ਕੰਠੇ ਬਾਗਾ ਪਹਿਰਹਿ ਕਜਲੁ ਝਰੈ ॥
kalar khetee taravar kantthe baagaa pahireh kajal jharai |
He is like the crop planted in the salty soil, or the tree growing on the river bank, or the white clothes sprinkled with dirt.
ਕੱਲਰ ਵਿਚ ਖੇਤੀ ਬੀਜ ਕੇ ਫ਼ਸਲ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੈ, ਦਰਿਆ ਕੰਢੇ ਉੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਰੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਨਾਣਾ ਭੁੱਲ ਹੈ, ਜਿਥੇ ਕਾਲਖ ਉਡ ਉਡ ਕੇ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੋਵੇ ਉਥੇ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਚਿੱਟੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਪਹਿਨਦੇ ਹਨ (ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਕਾਲਖ ਨਾਹ ਲੱਗਣ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਭੁੱਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ)।
ਏਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਕੀ ਕੋਠੀ ਜੋ ਪੈਸੈ ਸੋ ਗਰਬਿ ਜਰੈ ॥੬॥
ehu sansaar tisai kee kotthee jo paisai so garab jarai |6|
This world is the house of desire whoever enters it, is burnt down by egotistical pride. ||6||
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਕੋਠੀ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਫਸ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਨਿਕਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ) ਉਹ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ (ਗ਼ਰਕ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ-ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ) ਸੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਰਯਤਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਕਹਾ ਸਬਾਏ ਦੁਹੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸੋ ਜਾਸੀ ॥
rayat raaje kahaa sabaae duhu antar so jaasee |
Where are all the kings and their subjects? Those who are immersed in duality are destroyed.
ਰਾਜੇ ਤੇ (ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ) ਪਰਜਾ-ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਹਨ? (ਸਭ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੀ ਵਾਰੀ ਕੂਚ ਕਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)। ਇਸ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿਚ ਜੋ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਅੰਤ ਇਥੋਂ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਪਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਭੀ ਸਹੇੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਕਹਤ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਚੇ ਕੀ ਪਉੜੀ ਰਹਸੀ ਅਲਖੁ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ॥੭॥੩॥੧੧॥
kehat naanak gur sache kee paurree rahasee alakh nivaasee |7|3|11|
Says Nanak, these are the steps of the ladder, of the Teachings of the True Guru only the Unseen Lord shall remain. ||7||3||11||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਭੁੱਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਪਉੜੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਜੋ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਪਉੜੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਅਲੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਅਟੱਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥੩॥੧੧॥

ਰਾਗ ਮਾਰੂ, ਘਰ ੫ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਅੱਠ-ਬੰਦਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ।
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
jis no prem man vasaae |
One whose mind is filled with the Lord's Love,
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਪਿਆਰ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥
saachai sabad sehaj subhaae |
is intuitively exalted by the True Word of the Shabad.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ (ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ), ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ (ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) (ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ ਚੋਭ ਦਾ ਇਹੀ ਇਲਾਜ ਹੈ)।
ਏਹਾ ਵੇਦਨ ਸੋਈ ਜਾਣੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਕਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਕਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
ehaa vedan soee jaanai avar ki jaanai kaaree jeeo |1|
He alone knows the pain of this love what does anyone else know about its cure? ||1||
ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਚੋਭ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਹ ਚੋਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਚੋਭ ਦਾ) ਇਲਾਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ॥੧॥
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
aape mele aap milaae |
He Himself unites in His Union.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ (ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪਣਾ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਆਪੇ ਲਾਏ ॥
aapanaa piaar aape laae |
He Himself inspires us with His Love.
(ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਆਪਣਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਸੋਈ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
prem kee saar soee jaanai jis no nadar tumaaree jeeo |1| rahaau |
He alone appreciates the value of Your Love, upon whom You shower Your Grace, O Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਤੇਰੇ) ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ (ਭੀ) ਉਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਜਾਣ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਦਿਬ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਜਾਗੈ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥
dib drisatt jaagai bharam chukaae |
One whose spiritual vision is awakened - his doubt is driven out.
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਜਾਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

By Guru's Grace, he obtains the supreme status.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਦਰਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੋ ਜੋਗੀ ਇਹ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
so jogee ih jugat pachhaanai gur kai sabad beechaaree jeeo |2|
He alone is a Yogi, who understands this way, and contemplates the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||2||
(ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਇਸ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਸਹੀ ਅਰਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋਗੀ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਉੱਚੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਧਨ ਪਿਰ ਮੇਲਾ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
sanjogee dhan pir melaa hovai |
By good destiny, the soul-bride is united with her Husband Lord.
ਚੰਗੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਖੋਵੈ ॥
guramat vichahu duramat khovai |
Following the Guru's Teachings, she eradicates her evil-mindedness from within.
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਖੋਟੀ ਮੱਤ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਨਿਤ ਰਲੀਆ ਮਾਣੈ ਅਪਣੇ ਕੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
rang siau nit raleea maanai apane kant piaaree jeeo |3|
With love, she continually enjoys pleasure with Him she becomes the beloved of her Husband Lord. ||3||
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਲਾਡਲੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਵੈਦੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
satigur baajhahu vaid na koee |
Other than the True Guru, there is no physician.
(ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ ਚੋਭ ਦਾ ਇਲਾਜ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹਕੀਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
aape aap niranjan soee |
He Himself is the Immaculate Lord.
(ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਇਲਾਜ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਉਹ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ)।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਮਰੈ ਮੰਦਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਗਿਆਨ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥
satigur miliai marai mandaa hovai giaan beechaaree jeeo |4|
Meeting with the True Guru, evil is conquered, and spiritual wisdom is contemplated. ||4||
ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਭੈੜ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਚੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਜੋਗਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਏਹੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਾਰੁ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਲਾਏ ॥
ehu sabad saar jis no laae |
One who is committed to this most sublime Shabad
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਸਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਭੁਖ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
guramukh trisanaa bhukh gavaae |
becomes Gurmukh, and is rid of thirst and hunger.
(ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਾ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪਣ ਲੀਆ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਲ ਧਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੫॥
aapan leea kichhoo na paaeeai kar kirapaa kal dhaaree jeeo |5|
By one's own efforts, nothing can be accomplished the Lord, in His Mercy, bestows power. ||5||
ਆਪਣੀ ਅਕਲ ਦੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕੀਦਾ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਸੱਤਾ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਅਗਮ ਨਿਗਮੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥
agam nigam satiguroo dikhaaeaa |
The True Guru has revealed the essence of the Shaastras and the Vedas.
(ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ! ਇਹ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਾ ਕਿ (ਆਪਣ... ਧਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ)-ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਸਾਡੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ 'ਅਗਮ ਨਿਗਮੁ',
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪਨੈ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
kar kirapaa apanai ghar aaeaa |
In His Mercy, He has come into the home of my self.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ) 'ਅਗਮ ਨਿਗਮੁ' ਵਿਖਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਅਸਲ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਟਿਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਜਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੬॥
anjan maeh niranjan jaataa jin kau nadar tumaaree jeeo |6|
In the midst of Maya, the Immaculate Lord is known, by those upon whom You bestow Your Grace. ||6||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਪਛਾਣ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੬॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਤਤੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
guramukh hovai so tat paae |
One who becomes Gurmukh, obtains the essence of reality
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਇਹ) ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪੁ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
aapanaa aap vichahu gavaae |
he eradictes his self-conceit from within.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਧੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਮਨਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੭॥
satigur baajhahu sabh dhandh kamaavai vekhahu man veechaaree jeeo |7|
Without the True Guru, all are entangled in worldly affairs consider this in your mind, and see. ||7||
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲੈ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ ਹੀ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਇਕਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥
eik bhram bhoole fireh ahankaaree |
Some are deluded by doubt they strut around egotistically.
ਕਈ ਐਸੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਭੁਲੇਖੇ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਹੋਏ (ਆਪਣੇ ਇਸ ਗ਼ਲਤ ਤਿਆਗ ਤੇ ਹੀ) ਮਾਣ ਕਰਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਇਕਨਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀ ॥
eikanaa guramukh haumai maaree |
Some, as Gurmukh, subdue their egotism.
ਕਈ ਐਸੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲਈ ਹੈ।
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਹੋਰਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲੇ ਗਾਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੮॥
sachai sabad rate bairaagee hor bharam bhule gaavaaree jeeo |8|
Attuned to the True Word of the Shabad, they remain detached from the world. The other ignorant fools wander, confused and deluded by doubt. ||8||
ਅਸਲ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਉਹ ਹਨ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਬਾਕੀ ਦੇ ਮੂਰਖ (ਆਪਣੇ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇ) ਭੁਲੇਖੇ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ॥੮॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
guramukh jinee naam na paaeaa |
Those who have not become Gurmukh, and who have not found the Naam, the Name of the Lord
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ,
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
manamukh birathaa janam gavaaeaa |
those self-willed manmukhs waste their lives uselessly.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਮੁਰੀਦਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਵਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ।
ਅਗੈ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਬੇਲੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਬੂਝੈ ਗੁਰ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੯॥
agai vin naavai ko belee naahee boojhai gur beechaaree jeeo |9|
In the world hereafter, nothing except the Name will be of any assistance this is understood by contemplating the Guru. ||9||
ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਸਹਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ (ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੯॥
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ॥
amrit naam sadaa sukhadaataa |
The Ambrosial Naam is the Giver of peace forever.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਤੇਰਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
gur poorai jug chaare jaataa |
Throughout the four ages, it is known through the Perfect Guru.
ਸਦਾ ਤੋਂ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ (ਤੇਰੇ ਇਸ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ) ਸਾਂਝ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਆ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਪਾਏ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੦॥੧॥
jis too deveh soee paae naanak tat beechaaree jeeo |10|1|
He alone receives it, unto whom You bestow it this is the essence of reality which Nanak has realized. ||10||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ (ਇਹ ਦਾਤਿ) ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਸਲ ਜੀਵਨ-ਭੇਦ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਣ ਜੋਗਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥੧॥
